What a straw man argument. I never made any comparison of the Saints to the Cowboys.

The Saints won the Superbowl because they had perhaps the best QB in the league in 2009. In vacuum Drew Brees is probably not better than Peyton Manning, but for this year he was. In an era where the team who passes the ball most efficiently will win the majority of their games, Drew Brees is just what the doctor ordered. The next time Tony Romo is the best QB in the league, will be the first time and I don't think there will ever be a point where that is the case.

As far as their offensive line goes, they are above average. Jermon Bushrod is not particularly good and Stinchcomb is JAG, but their interior is flat out dominant. Jahri Evans and Carl Nicks probably make up the best combination of guards in the league. In contrast to Dallas, who has like 1 and a half good interior lineman and two poor starting tackles.

As far their defense goes, they were incredible at taking the ball away and they were one of the best teams against the pass (in the sense that they had a high defensive passer rating, top 3 actually). Dallas was not only poor at taking the ball away, but they had a poor defensive passer rating.

If you have one of the best passing teams and one of the best at stopping the pass, you will win games. It's that simple really.

They did not have a poor defensive passer rating. But they did give up the second fewest points in football.

You can slice and dice it any way you want. Second fewest point surrendered is just that. Would I like more forced TOs? Certainly.
But I'll take the exact same defensive performance we had this year every single time out.

Romo is purely a numbers guy in an era where numbers are meaning less and less. As far as accomplishments, he just won his first playoff game and he's never even been an All Pro. He's not well on his way to a HOF.

It's fluff because scoring isn't the be all indicator of how good a defense is. They can't take the ball away and they don't stop the pass well enough. I'm not saying they're garbage or anything, but that #2 in scoring defense is not as big as you think it is.

You're incapable of making any intelligent comparisons. A total waste of football time.

Bitter that I just blew your little the if the Saints did it when can't the Cowboys argument to smithereens? Face it, the Cowboys were a pretender in comparison to the Saints in 2009. Yeah, yeah we beat them...in the regular season.

ROTFLOL!:laugh2: It's the "be all" of how often you win the freaking game!

Give me one instance where a team scored fewer points than it's opponent and still won the game.:laugh2:

The New England How Do I Stop The Run? Patriots were a top 10 scoring defense. The 9ers were a top 10 scoring defense. The Panthers were a top scoring defense. The Green "giving up 50 in the playoffs" Packers were a top scoring defense.

It clearly means a whole lot.

It's amazing, but this isn't even the dumbest thing you've said in this thread. You should be proud of yourself, that's quite an accomplishment.

Scoring singularly doesn't mean your defense is that good, just that they are bendable. Do you think the Colts defense is really any good? They do the same thing Dallas does and were a top 10 scoring defense. How did that work out for them against the Saints? Did they look remotely like a top 10 defense?

If you said this to an NFL or NCAA coach they would do exactly as I did, laugh in your face over how stupid it is. It takes some kind of balance but only a complete moron would think a defense that limits scoring doesn't matter.

I've never said it that limiting scoring doesn't matter, it's just that isn't be all and end all. The problem is Dallas isn't really that good at things besides limiting scoring. I'm sorry if that is too hard for you to understand.

When their top pass rusher Freeny was playing well in the 1st half it did.

To the victor go the spoils and the Saints are the 2009 SB Champs for sure. But this was not an all-time great SB champ. Their will be no comparisons to the 85 Bears or 84 Niners.

In going back and forth with Hostile, it's pretty clear to me that he doesn't understand why Dallas lost to San Diego for example. In that game the Cowboys held them to I think was their lowest point output of the season (at least until that point), but the Cowboys defense came up short because they were bendable and not actively good.

I think it's you who is failing to understand the situation. Of course forcing TOs are a factor. It helps set up your offense to score.

But the number one thing it accomplishes is that it keeps your opponent from scoring. Your opponenet can't score on a drive that ended with a forced TO.

Just like he can't on a drive that fails to yield a 1st down.

At the end of the day, the defenses job is to keep the other team from scoring. And teams that do that better than 30 other teams, ARE PLAYING VERY GOOD DEFENSE!

How can anything be clear to you given where your head is?

Is it clear to you that the 20 points Dallas held them to was only eclipsed by the 14 points the Jets held them to and eliminated them from the playoffs?

My apologies. I asked a football question. That was wrong of me to go over your head on a topic. My bad.

Reading comprehension. Reading comprehension.

Let me reiterate. I'M NEVER SAID THAT LIMITING SCORING IS BAD OR THAT SHOULDN'T AIM TO DO IT, YOU DO HOWEVER NEED TO BE GOOD AT OTHER ASPECTS OF DEFENSE. THE COWBOYS ARE NOT.
