I hear that... he is the type of guy who can step up and be that emotional leader for a defense.

I was always big on drafting a new pass rusher but Porter intrigues me, even more so than Thomas to be honest.

Just saw the news. Unbelievable!

it's not that ground-breaking if you read the reports that the Steelers were already contemplating the news

No thanks. He's a coach kisser.
Too bad Parcells the player-kisser left or we might have seen some tongue.

1. Carpenter can move inside.

2. We have more than enough cap space.

3. The LB corps does not have much money tied up in it (I think the total LB corps that is under contract has a cap hit next year of about $5 million)

4. We enough cap space to sign Colombo and a RG and Porter.

Cowboys Sign LB James to Contract Extension

The Dallas Cowboys signed inside linebacker Bradie James today to a five-year, $20 million contract extension that includes an $8 million signing bonus.

Cowboys signed LB Akin Ayodele to a five-year, $17.5 million contract. The deal includes a $5 million signing bonus.

Cowboys signed Bobby Carpenter to a five-year, $12.5 million deal in July 2006.

And you guys want to sign a 30 yr old Lber who will want just as much money, when we don't have our starting RT signed or an a decent OG.

I don't think you understand how NFL contracts or the salary cap works.

Cowboys talk to Brian Robison, Charles Johnson, Jay Moore, Dan Bazuin

it probably wont' be Joey Porter, but we are indeed, looking to add another OLB

Actually, I do, and it would be foolish to throw that kind of money in one position when it could be used in other ways. If you think Porter is coming in for peanuts you are setting yourself up to be dissapointed.

FOR THE RIGHT PRICE. I think he could contribute in a few ways to this team. His on the field attitude would fire up the defense (hopefully) apparently his off the field character is questionable ???

Did the steerlers have a 3-4 and if they didn't then would he fit in it.

umm....Yes

He's not meshing very well in Denver. They're sucking wind with all the big dogs on the court. It's not all his fault though. They just suck in general. ;)

Than we need to go get him he is a good LB that is probally who we could use.

Actually, no you don't understand. Maybe I can help you.

As it stands, the current players under contract for LB will only count $5-6 million against the cap for next season. That's 1/20 of the total cap for a position that accounts for 1/3 of the defense.

You might ask, how could this possibly be so low? I'll explain. Rookie contracts in the NFL, even for high first round picks, are minimal. Ware's contract is tiny. Burnett's contract is tiny. Carpenter's contract is tiny. In addition, the the non-rookie contracts we have for LBs (Ellis, Ayodele, and James) are all relatively cheap. For example, James' 2007 cap hit will be less than Singleton's 2006 cap hit.

Now I hope you realize that there isn't much money tied up in the LB corps. If you'd like for me to post all of their contracts and their cap hits to further show you why this is true I can do that later.

I hope this has helped you.
