They have paid him all year to be an inactive #3. I just think they end up dumping him finally this offseason, which is probably what they should have done in September. He's just a big fat pimple on their roster right now.

Exactly. I posted a link to an article a minute ago that says that by exercising the 5th year option they virtually guaranteed that they wouldn't play him so that he wouldn't get injured and force them into having to fork over $16M in 2016. They could have done nothing and had his services this year (if they chose to play him) and still cut him in the offseason.

Wait, how would pouncing on him won us the East?

You do remember 2015 when we lost 7 straight games after Romo got hurt. With a little better QB play we could have won half of those games. RGIII would have given us a little better play than Weeden and Cassel imo.

That is why he didn't play Sunday. If he got hurt they would be on the hook for 16m for 2016. They can cut him after the season and be done with him completely, no cost. He will be cut and become a FA.

Same with Kap and JF imo.

Yep. They could have done nothing and had no risk in playing him this year if they chose to play him. Instead, they placed the option on him and then realized that they had to sit him to ensure he didn't get injured so they wouldn't have to pay him the option $$$. You can argue all day about how dumb Jerry might be, but no one can argue that even he is that dumb.

One winning season since 2009. Thanks for playing.

Huh? I asked a question. I asked is that what you or the other poster felt they did. They made a move and sat back satisfied with their 13 win season? Is that what you guys felt they did last year? You guys felt they didn't attempt to improve this teams lack of pass rush or defense?

I just did a similar look up. They gambled and might have won. Before the new league year hits, they will dump him. Pretty interesting how it works out with no cap hit.

They actually didn't win in any regard. By exercising the option, they guaranteed his salary for 2016 if he were to get injured. Since there was no way they were going to be willing to pay him $16M next year, they had no choice but to then sit him for the year. Had they not exercised the option, they could have played him if they wanted/needed to, with no risk and simply cut him at the end of the year. Simply put, they badly bungled that one.

My condolences for suffering in Cleveland, but congrats for attending the right forum.

Was there a time, however brief, that JFB tried to get himself straight up there? Didn't he fair a bit better for a while after rehab?

Has he done any benevolent or gracious things locally that looked like he cares?

Just wondering if he's really totally lost.

Thanks! I'm born and raised in Cleveland but have been a Cowboys fan since 1990. During this past offseason he was in rehab which everyone knew and it seemed that he was turning over a new leaf and starting to take responsibility. The majority of the Browns fans were all in on him in September but now he is the joke of the city. Most of my family and friends are Browns fans and none of them want Johnny on the team anymore. My brother thinks he could be doing all of this to be released or traded. I'm not 100% sure but I don't think he did a lot of charitable work in the community? He always seemed to be out partying.

This does not make any sense, nor speak to a thing I wrote which you quoted.

I guess this is like the fan version of Jones' "How'd ya lak them three Super Bowls?".

"How'd ya lak that 12-4 and exit out of the divisional round of the playoffs?"

Let me clarify.......

First off, there was no statement made.

I asked you a question. You posted:

"Way too complicated. Once we sign a free agent, we will dab the corners of our mouth with a napkin, push away from the table and let out a big belch after saying "mission accomplished".

That is how we do things."

You made the statement "That is how we do things."

Is that what you felt we did this offseason? You felt that after winning 13 games we signed a free agent and dabbed the corners of our mouth and felt like we accomplished our goal? With the minimum resources we had to improve this team is that what you felt we did? Just answer the question no need to push back the goal post.

Everyone here wants RG3 over JF if given the choice? Are you people insane? Hes one fall away from his career being over, personally i dont want either one, if i had to choose it would be JF for sure. He is younger, we have a support staff here, and really i think he just doesnt want to be in cleveland. Who knows. I want Lynch/Goff, but if i had to choose it would be JF

I agree. I think RG3 is a bigger risk injury/health-wise than JFM who is a just an entitled frat boy. 95% of all frat boys grow up, guys with jacked knees are more iffy. RG3's legs are his magic. Take those away and he is very pedestrian.

considering how often the partying ended up on his own instagram and other social media you do wonder if he was trying to force a move.
but that's one of those guesses because even if he feels like he made that decision who knows if he could have behaved had he wanted to.

i like his upside and his potential cost.
as a person he is pretty clearly shallow and self-involved... but that matters little to me (sub 25 year olds are generally dolts) provided he produces.
no one gets free first downs for being nice.

If RG3 gets cut then I can't see him signing to be a back up. The Texans would have to make a play at that point.

Or St. Louis. How hilarious would it be if he wound up on the Rams after that trade.

Fisher might do it just to troll Danny like he did with the team captains.

Yeah I'm sure he would love to be here.

I am pretty much set that I believe that Jerry will sign either RGIII or JFF. I am almost certain that's how he's going to decide to handle the QB situation.

In his mind that fills both the need of Romos back up for a couple of years as well as the eventual replacement for Romo if he signs one of those two.

Then in the draft they can take Treadwell or Bosa or trade down.

If the Commanders cut RG3 as expected and he becomes a FA, why shouldn't Dallas explore the option of getting him on the cheap??? He exploded on the scene and looked to be the real deal. Then injuries got to him over the last 2 years....he has had a year to get healthy.... if RG3 accepts the backup role for the next few years..tell me why not!!!

Pro- allows Dallas to draft 2 potential studs in rounds 1-2 this year, rather than reaching for Goff/Lynch (the best of this year) or a Hackenburg type in round 2???

Is he worth a shot??

I don't care to get RGIII for any price, he is not that good and frankly a waste of time. This guy has been hyped up since day 1 fact is he is damaged goods and is not that talented.

Not sure how that is relevant to us possibly signing RGIII or Manziel. We did take a chance on Hardy who had off the field problems. But I don't think we can be successful making a habit of signing problem players. At least with Hardy he had a history of being a dominant force on the field in the NFL. RGIII has done nothing other than one season in the read-option. Manziel has done nothing but make headlines for poor off the field behavior.

Then of course there are people like you who will ride Jerry's jock despite about 20 years of futility.

Oh, so Jerry's in charge again!?!? LOL!

I could've sworn our success in 2014 was due to Stephen/McClay taking over!

There needs to be an off season reality show featuring RG3, JFB, and Kaepernick. Have them compete in physical challenges until one of them clearly emerges as the better option and then that player will get an invite to Cowboys training camp.
