If RG3 gets cut then I can't see him signing to be a back up. The Texans would have to make a play at that point.

Very good point. A lot of us are acting as though it's a given that he could end up in Dallas if JJ wants him, but there will be a team or two that will pursue his services, and Houston is very possibly one of them. He would have a decent chance of starting there and be in his home state, to boot.

Oh, so Jerry's in charge again!?!? LOL!

I could've sworn our success in 2014 was due to Stephen/McClay taking over!

Others being more involved in the operation doesn't mean Jerry is just silently sitting on the side. I'm sure Jerry has a lot of input when it comes to major decisions like who the HC will be, QB and marquee FA's.

There needs to be an off season reality show featuring RG3, JFB, and Kaepernick. Have them compete in physical challenges until one of them clearly emerges as the better option and then that player will get an invite to Cowboys training camp.

Great idea! Maybe they could get Michael Irvin to host it.

I think he lusts after the type of attention either player would bring, not necessarily the players themselves.

But I do think we'll refrain from acquiring either, and that should speak volumes to those who are certain we'll end up with one, if not both.

I hope that you are right

Didn't JJ say something to the effect that if they would have taken JFF that it would have made the Cowboys relevant for the next 10 years?...I think JJ is glad to have Zack Martin, but sees the chance to get the guy he really wanted...

The "price" would have to be close to veteran minimum wage. I think he'd be a better backup than any of the current options, but he is not a long term solution nor is he starting caliber.

Yes I know he sucks but there aren't enough arms out there for 32 teams to have quality starters, so when we get to the level of talking about backups, you have to pick the best of a bad bunch.

I reserve the right to change the above based on who is available to Dallas at #4 (or higher?) because I see that as potentially a talented backup *and* a long term solution.

Or St. Louis. How hilarious would it be if he wound up on the Rams after that trade.

Fisher might do it just to troll Danny like he did with the team captains.

It's an interesting thought, but I'd say Bobby also took that as a shot.

Not sure how that is relevant to us possibly signing RGIII or Manziel. We did take a chance on Hardy who had off the field problems. But I don't think we can be successful making a habit of signing problem players. At least with Hardy he had a history of being a dominant force on the field in the NFL. RGIII has done nothing other than one season in the read-option. Manziel has done nothing but make headlines for poor off the field behavior.

Its relevant to his statement saying that we will just sign a player and be satisfied......when you make a statement like that I assume you are basing that statement on past events from this team? Otherwise why make the statement? Just a pure guess?

IMO, RGIII and/or Manzeil will have far more to work with here then they did at their previous spots. Both would have a elite receiver, solid running game, solid offensive line, solid tight end.......I personally believe with all that RGIII would be the more successful of the two. But i'm speaking strictly on backup roles. Not sure how I feel about either ever being a starter for us.

I guess i don't understand the complaints here. Here are the 2016 FA QBs

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/free-agents/quarterback/

Two of the best on that list will most likely be signed by the teams they are on now. RGIII would not be a bad option as backup QB.

People want a rookie free agent. Its far more intriguing and exciting for fans to see the unknown then it is a guy who had problems at his past destination. But if Kap, Manziel and/or RGIII are cut......teams should be lining up for their services as backups. I'm sure some teams will be lining up for their services as starters..... I have a hard time being picky about backups especially when mine have been Brandon Weeden, Matt Cassel and Kellen Moore.

I think the deal breaker will be FA or draft picks...

RG3 will be released. Johnny is gonna have to get traded...unless Cleveland takes a 3rd or 4th round pick I think they lean to sign RG3

I'm not completely against acquiring RG3 or Johnny just because I'd hate to have to use the number 4 pick on a QB like Goff or Lynch that probably won't even play much until 2-3 years from now. Getting a workhorse running back, a talented reciever, or a playmaker on defense for Romo's last years is very intriguing. We gotta go all out these next couple years and getting a guy at number 4 that can come in and contribute right away is ideal. So in my opinion we should either trade for Johnny, pick up RG3 if he's cut, or draft a guy like Kevin Hogan from Stanford in the 5th round.

I don't care to get RGIII for any price, he is not that good and frankly a waste of time. This guy has been hyped up since day 1 fact is he is damaged goods and is not that talented.

If he was truly hyped up, then that means that the Cowboys REALLY SUCKED a lot more on defense than we originally thought. The kid has great skills - just needs to get his mind right. Reminds me of Steve Young coming to SF to back up Joe Montana is '87. The irony is that BOTH GUYS were 26 the season that they became back-ups to Elite QB's (or may become a back-up in RGIII's case).

The price won't be right. People keep assuming he is going to sign to be a backup and accept high end backup money. He will sign somewhere to be a starter and get paid starter money.

Christine Michael wanted to be a Cowboy too. How'd that work out? Just because a guy wants to come here doesn't mean he'll magically stop being a knucklehead when he gets here.
