I can't believe the Cowboys are this desperate.

I don't know why but I don't remember him really setting the world on fire pre-accident. You'd think we have Gerald McCoy coming to us.

He was very good. Plugged up the middle well against the run.

With the Rams losing Bradford, that looks at least like a possibility. (SF, Titans, Rams, Saints). Sneaking one at home week one would be a good start.

Yes but knowing this team they will beat the niners then promptly lose to the Titans by 10

given the backlash that Goodell got with the whole Ray Rice scenario, I think he is going to bring down the hammer on this suspension.

I completely agree. I don't think he was going to get a suspension until Ray wife-beater Rice. I'm thinking four games.

I would hope the Commish sees fit to deal with Brent with reasonable understanding that a year's suspension would possibly constitute an inordinately harsh punishment. I say this due to the fact that another year's layoff could have a devastating effect upon a player who has already been forced to undergo in excess of a year's separation from football.

Such a penalty might easily constitute a condition whereby Brent's ability to rebound from such a layoff might easily be practically impossible. I'm hoping he doesn't see fit to suspend him for more than a few months, max. Penalizing him past that amount of time could, in essence, very possibly be tantamound to destroying his career, imho.

Especially considering what the league mandates in no way is a legal criminal action or even recovery for personal loss...only in standard of conduct as a private business...they selling individual rights for company benefits.

No clue as to how long Josh may get but he should be thankful he will be allowed back in to the league. When the league office announces it Brent will have to live with it and get himself ready on his own since players are not allowed at the complex when they are suspended.

The way I see it is he's already been punished. I remember when I was in grade school, some of my friends' parents had this policy of "If you get a spanking at school, you'll get one at home." However, the other school of thought was, "Don't punish twice for the same offense. They've already been punished."

My parents definitely would have whooped my butt when I got home if I had to get a spanking at school. There is no doubt about that. It's probably also a reason why my butt kept out of trouble both at school and at home and haven't been in trouble really my whole life. I had to face consequences when I did and it taught me how to act and how not to act.

It's a shame that isn't the way it is anymore but hey we wouldn't want people to behave. That would be too easy.

You know as often as this argument has gone on you would think that people would remember the argument.

The idea was that Brent retired voluntarily under the direction of the league and club and sat out 20 games. In that light he has already missed 20 games including half a dozen when he wasn't in jail.

To me that argument is compelling. Others are more punitive and insist that the NFL do additional harm or don't consider the previous time missed. I also think Goodell cares less about public opinion than people think. Sponsor and TV exec opinion? Sure but you and I? Not a whit.

Agreed.
Brent could have just came to work each day and either played the whole time or forced the Cowboys or the league to suspend him then.

And the overriding document is that signed under collective bargaining. It has bite as well.

Tough bleep. He deserves the same suspension Stallworth got for the same crime.

That is probably what Brent would have received had he not already missed a year of football. Right or wrong I think that will factor into the amount of games he will be suspended. In essence he will miss more games in the league than Stallworth did. It just won't be all due to actual suspension.

Who cares ....... the guy will not be ready to play anytime soon anyway.

People think he is gonna walk back in after 2 years right where he left off? (Which was just average anyway)

He has been working out with Gurode at Ben Johnsons training academy for the past two months. He was released from rehab before TC began and has been training since.

And he only need be better than Hayden. I am interested in winning football games and 'average' was able to anchor double teams. Bishop struggles with them and Hayden struggles with single blocking.

If you don't want him not matter what then I respect that but the pragmatic argument is pretty cut and dry at this point.

search some threads on this topic -- there are plenty who felt he was punished enough

Thinking he'd been punished enough and thinking he would get no suspension at all is not the same. Most people felt he'd get something although the range would certainly be 0 to 1 yr for most people.
