Twitter: Josh Brent likely to be suspended

That's kind of the neighborhood I'm thinking we're looking at. If so, we'll have an influx of defenders week five (Brent and Scandrick), and, maybe, week 7 (Spencer and Okoye).

just need to go 2-2 before then, at least

And sometime around then, we'll get DLaw back as well from his foot injury.

Oh, right. I forgot about him, too.

For such a young team on defense, I can't remember going into a season with this many question marks. Or a TC/preseason where so little actually got legitimately answered. It's kind of crazy.

I'm pretty sure Eatman said on one of those dc.com shows last week that he'd heard Brent wouldn't get any suspension.

Not doubting you, but I wonder where he'd even hear something like that?

Might as well suspend him. He's not ready anyway.

It'll be interesting to see. If he's got his strength and really has been working on is conditioning the last six weeks at a private facility, 1-tech is a good position to try to get by on for 15-20 snaps/game on technique alone.

I would hope the Commish sees fit to deal with Brent with reasonable understanding that a year's suspension would possibly constitute an inordinately harsh punishment. I say this due to the fact that another year's layoff could have a devastating effect upon a player who has already been forced to undergo in excess of a year's separation from football.

Such a penalty might easily constitute a condition whereby Brent's ability to rebound from such a layoff might easily be practically impossible. I'm hoping he doesn't see fit to suspend him for more than a few months, max. Penalizing him past that amount of time could, in essence, very possibly be tantamound to destroying his career, imho.

And I don't know how anyone could have thought that he wouldn't get some sort of league punishment.

The way I see it is he's already been punished. I remember when I was in grade school, some of my friends' parents had this policy of "If you get a spanking at school, you'll get one at home." However, the other school of thought was, "Don't punish twice for the same offense. They've already been punished."

Tough bleep. He deserves the same suspension Stallworth got for the same crime.

After a player has dealt with the criminal justice system, a suspension is essentially meaningless, IMO. I fail to see the point because it looks like they are just piling on after the whistle.

it would be but with Roger Robespierre running the show, someone who loves to push his weight around, he will get more

We'll soon see if you get your wish. Stallworth served 30 days in jail, while Brent served 180 -- that should count for something.
Stallworth claimed he "flashed his lights" at his victim before running over him -- not too likely to inspire mercy. It's a tough call.

I know of nobody who thought he wouldn't get something.

It's just a matter of how much Goodell considers a year out of the league and jail time part of that punishment.

search some threads on this topic -- there are plenty who felt he was punished enough

I can't believe the Cowboys are this desperate.

I don't know why but I don't remember him really setting the world on fire pre-accident. You'd think we have Gerald McCoy coming to us.

I realize that, but surely everyone knows he's going to get something. With the Ray Rice controversy, how could he give Brent a pass now?
