To this day I'm still in awe on how fast Ware gets off on the snap... it's unreal.

They need to put a rule on him so he has to count to 1 before he can move. It just isn't fair.

Oh great.... the Demarcus Ware rule... as if we needed another rule named after a Cowboy player.

just dont see it,
greg is making about 6 million this year, while peppers wants to make at least 10 million a year plus bonus money, and we still havent signed ware

You've gotta think outside the box, joe... consider this:

The Boys are between 10.3 and 10.4 million under the cap right now...

Trading Ellis saves them another 5 million (roughly)... now you're at 15-15.5 mil under the cap...

There's an uncapped year next year, to the Boys could structure the contracts of both Ware and Peppers so that each gets a big base salary next year...

While both will get megabucks, their cap impact THIS year will not be all that great, probably not much more than 5-6 mil per season each... they'll get big signing bonuses and small base salaries, and not all the signing bonuses will count against the cap this year... those bonuses will be prorated over the life of the contract...

The Boys haven't renegotiated ANY contracts this offseason, to the best of my knowledge, and could easily do so if they wish to... again, such renegotiations would probably involve rather large base salaries in 2010 (which Jerry can likely afford, with all the extra revenue he'll be realizing from JerryWorld opening)...

There are lots of reasons why this deal might not happen, indeed probably won't happen, but the salary cap is not one of them... the Boys would have no problems fitting both Ware and Peppers under the cap for 2009...

Whats not fair is timing it perfectly and getting penalized for it...

So your okay letting Ware go when he becomes a free agent then huh?:banghead:

Peppers and Ware is not an either/or situation, don't know where you got that idea... the Boys can sign both...

Some of y'all have little grasp of the Cowboys' cap situation, how they can structure contracts to minimize the cap hit this year, or the ramifications of the uncapped year in 2010...

No cap baby!! Get him before there's restrictions on how many FA's you can sign.

Ding ding ding ding ding... SOMEBODY in here gets it...

If the Cowboys finish in the top 8 this year, as we all hope and expect they will, they will be severely restricted as to what they can do in free agency next year... as I understand it, they would not be able to sign ANY free agents unless one of theirs signed elsewhere, and then they could only spend up to what the departing free agent got in his new deal...

And of course, with no cap, it won't matter if the Boys' cap number next year is 200 million (it won't be, just throwing out a hypothetical, outrageous number)... with all the money Jerry's gonna be raking in from the opening of JerryWorld, he can afford to go a little nutso...

There is going to have to be a cap at some point or else there will be a lockout by the owners.

There won't be one next year, though... so Jerry could structure the deal so that both Ware and Peppers got their biggest money in 2010, and not hurt his cap situation longterm...

Even if it could be fit under the cap, it pretty much ties up most all of your cash in two positions.

And I'm not convinced there is going to be an uncapped year.

Unless we renegotiated, he would come to us as a franchised player. He has yet to sign his offer with Carolina, so he would play at that amount.

Wrong, pal... if he came to us, it would be on a new, renegotiated deal from Jerry... the Boys wouldn't make the deal unless he signed on the dotted line...

Why would they trade for a player of that stature if there was a chance they could lose him after just one season?? You don't trade a 3rd round pick and a player who has played in the Pro Bowl (even an aging player) for a one year rental...

Sb, where did you get this info? I have not heard that. Do you have a link to that information?

I've always wanted to use that.

While it would be absolutely sick to see Ware and Peppers together on the same defense, there are much more glaring needs on the defense than adding another allstar olb.

The Chiefs just did it with Matt Cassell. He hasn't signed a new deal yet.

Exactly... How would Jerry sign both Ware and Peppers?

The short answer is "very easily"... for the longer answer, scroll up a post or two...

What's Peppers' motivation for signing a deal where he would make less than the $17 million he's due to make in Carolina this season?

Even if that ridiculous compensation was enough for the Panthers, the amount of money Peppers would want makes it impossible to pay both he and Ware.

Sigh... it's depressing, how many of you don't get it...

Not a chance in hell this happens.

You're probably right, but ONLY because the Panthers would never accept so little in return for Peppers...

In an uncapped season teams that make the playoffs aren't allowed to sign Free Agents...... It's a posion pill to the contract. Highly unlikely we'll see an uncapped year.

Close, but not quite...

The top 8 teams in the playoffs cannot sign free agents, UNLESS they lose one... then they can sign a free agent to replace him, but cannot spend more to sign him than the player they lost got on his new deal...

Oh, and it's about 99.5 per cent certain that next year will indeed be an uncapped year... that's all but set in stone, at this point... what we need to be worrying about is the possibility, bordering on probability, of some sort of work stoppage in 2011...

Have no idea if this is possible but can Peppers renegotiate his contract with the Panthers to make their cap issues better and then renegotiate a contract with Dallas? Or are the Panthers on the hook for the entire amount no matter what?

Peppers can negotiate a new deal for any amount that satisfies him and his team, whoever that team might be, at any time...
