I think the Panthers' tagging of Peppers is almost as stupid as that ridiculous extension they just gave to Delhomme.

What's Peppers' motivation for signing a deal where he would make less than the $17 million he's due to make in Carolina this season?

Even if that ridiculous compensation was enough for the Panthers, the amount of money Peppers would want makes it impossible to pay both he and Ware.

Motivation is, if he is hurt he is limited to that 17 million. If he signs a long-term deal with a team, he is going to get 30+ million guaranteed.

Just passing on what I was told. The guy I was doing business with has never proven to be a liar so I believe he heard what he said he heard. Now whether or not what he heard was credible, is another story.

I could care less if it in the cap.

Jerry and Stephen wouldn't do it if it would hurt the cap status so much that they couldn't pay Ware.

So if the deal is done its going to fit in the cap at which point I could care less how much he is paid.

I was talking with someone in Charlotte late today and they were mentioning that on a radio program there that there was some talk of a Greg Ellis and a third round pick for Julius Peppers.

Have no idea how credible it is, but that was the talk per this person.

I don't believe it, but if the Panthers make that offer, it's a no brainer...

Well, we're 10.4 million under the cap right now, and if Ellis departs, there's another 5 mil... as big as Ware's deal is gonna be, it probably won't be more than about a 5 million cap hit this year (figure that there will be a big base salary in the uncapped year next year...

Peppers would probably draw a bit less, but the contract would be similarly structured... by that I mean it would feature a large base salary next year, the uncapped year...

Yeah, the Boys can easily work him in under their cap... remember, at this point they haven't renegotiated a single contract, and if things got tight, there are probably several that could be reworked to give the team even more cap room...

I'd prefer they not do that, it hurts your cap flexibility in future years, but it's always an option... and you explore every option if you have a chance to add a Julius Peppers for a 3rd rounder and Ellis...

All that said, I doubt that the Panthers would be willing to make that trade... it just doesn't feel like near enough return for that good a player, even if he is being the squeaking wheel right now... they can do better than that, I'm sure of it...
