If and when he's exonerated, I would do whatever it takes to sign Collins. Any chance I have to add an additional first round draft pick to this offensive line, I take advantage of it.

Why not drop a 7th on him? I understand the PR issue but we would be under no obligation to offer him a contract. I just look at it as buying more time to see how it plays out. If he is cleared you have a major steal, if he is charged you decline to sign him and you aren't out anything other than a 7th

I totally agree - COLLINS was one of my "dream picks" but probably not really needed. BUT imagine
SMITH - COLLINS - FREDBEARD - MARTIN - CHAZ GREEN

Leary will probably be an ERFA next year, but those bad knees
Free will be 32/33 and have 2 years remaining on his new contract
The VT pick can be the new swing Tackle - DALLAS for sure would have a dominating OL.........

Because, I think then, he could sit out, and re-enter the draft. I think in this case, he can not.

Collins and Green's draft measurables are virtually identical. At worst, Green would be an eventual swing tackle. Hardly "expendable."

if Collins is cleared and signed, he's the swing tackle and heir to Free's spot, not Green.

There's a reason why Collins was a first round grade and Green got a late round grade.

Someone said, and I am not sure this is true, that if a team drafted Collins he could refuse to sign and then re-enter the 2016 draft. But if he's a UDFA, he can't re-enter the draft. So if true, maybe teams were afraid that since he wanted to re-enter the 2016 draft, that he and his agent would just use the team taht drafted him and would have no intention of signing.

Yeah, that's just what I'm picturing. Dominant and young!

I know I'm biased as a Cowboys fan, but if I had my pick of teams to sign with and all things being equal, I think the Cowboys have several factors in their favor:

  1. They're coming off of a 12-4 season
  2. They're as talented an offense overall as anywhere in the league
  3. You'd go into a situation where you're not forced to be a savior
  4. No matter where you line up, you've got a young Pro Bowler playing next to you
  5. You're playing for the Cowboys, one of, if not the highest profile team(s) in the league

My fingers are crossed!

@mikefreemanNFL: Team personnel man: "We are all watching this (La'el Collins) situation closely. Every team. If he's cleared, every team wants him."

It he got drafted he could hold out and re-enter the draft next year. As a udfa he can't do that.

Will be interesting if Cowboys try and use their Les Miles/Cam Cameron connection, money won't be an issue as we saw when they went after Leary.

He is reported to want to sign with a team where he will likely start as a rookie.

The Cowboys could offer to let him compete with Free to start. As of today, Free can't practice due to ankle surgery.

My guess is that he will pick a team that does not have an incumbent starter at both OT positions, but Jerry is a master salesman, so who knows.

Raiders should make a strong push for him.

This guy is better than Free now,he is a saints fan so I bet they get him.

Just tell him, "Pretty soon, you'll be able to block for one of the greatest running backs of all times." ;)

I think there are substantial advantages for Dallas. They have a history with problem guys. They have a history of success with UDFAs. They have a brief history of success on the OL. They have the biggest brand in sports. Because of their prominence and the talent of the group, guys on their OL are as well known as any in the league. Now whether those are what the player is looking for and what sort of pitch, if any, the team is making will ultimately determine where he goes. That being said, I think Dallas has as good of a chance as anyone.

Is Collins a "problem guy" though? So far this is the only thing resembling trouble he's been involved in, and it very well may be that he had nothing to do with this, so I don't see how that is much of an advantage.

I don't see how we get him. We have two starting tackles and just drafted one in the third round. He's a guy who can come in and start from day one and will probably look to go to a team where he will have a chance to do that.
