He kind of has to sign pretty much a minimum contract based on rules

That is why I would have used a 7th on him. He is pretty much stuck either way but at least it would be us or no one.

He could sit out a year but that is a big risk. At least this way he is getting paid and getting closer to FA.

The problem with drafting him 7th would be he could have just not signed and reentered the draft next year, giving him a year to work out his legal problems and a shot at making millions more by being drafted higher.

I would have too and we should have but the. He would hold the leverage of holding out and re-entering the draft but it would be worth the risk of a 7th rounder

I suspect GM's did him a solid by not drafting him.
He can go to the highest bidder if he is in fact totally cleared with all questions answered in the next few weeks.

He isn't going to sign a minimum contract.

The rookie wage scale will prevent him from getting any kind of big deal. The most he can make in somewhere around $520k (which also includes his signing bonus).

He's would never sit out a whole year without a paycheck, unless he wins the power ball lottery. These guys dont have an income until training camp. You show him the money and he signs.

Problem with that is he's not taking a long term deal, so you'd only get him for one season. If we like him over Leary, maybe we'd do that, but that's not much of a win in that case.

You would have him for a minimum of three years if you were to sign him. Players don't hit restricted free agency until they hit three years of service time. Prior to then, his team has exclusive negotiating rights.

I swear I read a report that said while he is still not a suspect, the Baton Rouge police still won't rule out having to talk to him again in the future.

I dont think anyone is touching this kid until all this is officially sorted out.

Just remember, the Cowboys are usually only interested in players they bring in for one of the 30 national
visits. They usually try and draft from that pool of their interested players. If he wasn't brought in
they may or may not have that much interest. Then again, you can never say never with the Cowboys.

Dallas is a good destination for him. Could potentially play in Leary's or Free's spot (eventually). Love both of these guys, but you never know about Leary's knee or when/if Free's age will catch up with him.

Because of bonus limits when signing UDFA's, the only thing that Jerry could do would be to guarantee his salary. Even then, I'm not sure if there are limits as to the salary amount he could be paid.

If he wants to start right away, this is not the place. If he doesn't mind being the #1 reserve and maybe start in a year, Dallas would be a nice fit.

He most likely go to a team where he could start right away on a bad line. That might be Tampa or the Commanders at this point.

I wouldn't bet against Jerry and Stephen, but I'll be shocked if this guy isn't looking for Left Tackle openings. We have a lot to offer, but we can't offer him that.

He's not a LT. He's a RT or G.

I would've rather we burned a 7th on him vs. another TE that, at best, could supplant Hanna and catch four balls the entire year.
