He should at least fight for the number two job next year I would give him that job I mean Prescott's not technically injury prone not anymore than any other quarterback that's not truly injury prone I mean if he's not gonna see the field much neither is Cooper rush this guy's being paid way too much to just sit as the emergency quarterback so next year if they keep Prescott they need to probably give Trey Lance the job all things being close IMHO
He will be the backup next year or the Cowboys will trade him.

What could they get for a 3rd string QB who will be a free agent at the end of next year? LOL
They didn't give up a 4th round pick for a 3rd string QB. He will probably be the backup next year or traded. Cooper rush contract is 2.8 million next year. Lance is over 5 million. They are not keeping lance as a 3rd string QB who is making more than the backup.

Unless no one wants to trade for him anymore by then, which is a very real possibility next year if he doesn't show any progress.

Teams don't trade for 3rd string QBs. He'll have no value

He has trade value. It was reported that several teams were interested in Lance.
Yeah, for a 6th rounder, and his value only goes down the closer he gets to free agency unless he shows marked signs of improvement.

I’m not saying he can’t or won’t be traded, just that it’s more of a gamble than I personally would have liked.

Jerry screwed up royally trading for this bust. Cowboys could have used that 4th round draft pick on a much more important position in need.

This wasn't the worst idea, trying to acquire a young QB.

It was however completely unnecessary, and he overpaid. Teams were offering the standard 6th round pick for Lance and a 7th round pick (basically a half round upgrade on Day 3) and then Jerry comes in with a 4th round pick. Not conditional, a straight up 4th rounder for a guy not likley to play for you this season.

Not to mention, he didn't even bother talking to the Head Coach about it.

Also, the whole thing about getting four years of affordable quarterback play only really applies when you actually get all four years, and he is starting for you. It allows you to spend money on the surrounding cast. Makes zero sense for your third string quarterback though. The cap hit is only $940k this year, but next year jumps to $6.25M. You also must make the decision on the 5th year option now.

This is the issue with "Jerry the GM." He just sees a kid who he remembers being the third overall pick just a few years ago. Do you think Jerry spent time looking at Lance's film from the last few years?

Staubach and Romo are both in the college football Hall of Fame. I wonder when Trey Lance will be inducted?
Lance started 17 games in college. That isn't new news. What could be the possible reason for this question?

How so? How did you determine he won't be a good NFL QB already?
This season is almost over, yet he hasn't even come close to take reps away from Cooper Rush whether in practice or late in games where the backup QB has been allowed to go and finish the remaining minutes of the 4th quarter.

Sarcasm. Lance will never be in the College Hall of Fame. Comparing Trey to Romo and Staubach is absolutely idiotic.

Trey does not need to sit behind someone. He has not played enough to sit. He needs to go play and get experience in the CFL or Arena League.

Lance needs developing. We knew that at the draft and when we made the trade. We knew he wouldn't get any snaps this year. Not new news. I don't understand why some keep saying we should put him in before he is ready.

He won't take any reps from Rush this year. Again not new news. The soonest he will be on a field of play for the Cowboys is preseason. It was true on the day we made the trade and still true today.

How on December 26th "Jerry screwed up royally trading for this bust" doesn't make a bit of sense. This trade might end up being a bust. But that won't be determined until a long time from now.

He broke his ankle and throwing hand.

But he can play for us.
