Trey Lance is not ahead of Cooper Rush because he's not as good as Rush. If he was ever going to amount to anything, don't you think he would at least be a backup after 3 years? XFL is were he should be ..
Why? Especially considering he probably isn't ready yet. That's why he is 3rd string.
The guy had a major injury, Purdy came in and ran away with the starting role. You saw Purdy's limitation against the Ravens, he's an efficient bus driver that's not built to play from behind. Trey was a reshirt rooke with 4 games of experience but was green (2-2 record as a starter) and a positive TD v Int ratio. Without his injury, Trey would still be the starting QB for the 49ers.
Lance was the third overall pick just 3 years ago so that made everyone forget about Cooper Rush. If it was up to tbe fans, they would name Lance as the backup without a competition. Some would make him our starter.
The eye test shows he’s an average QB who’s worked well when our defense isn’t giving up more than 17 points and we have a decent running game.
They have no clue what they’re seeing especially those who claimed we would have won the Super Bowl last season had we stayed with Rush.

Rodgers could have probably started from day one but he had Favre ahead of him. He played against the Cowboys in the 2007 season when Favre was injured and almost brought the Packers back.
Think about it. Some people on this board thinks the future Cowboys QB is a guy who can't beat out Sam Darnold or Cooper Rush to be a backup. If Lance had a future in the NFL he would at least be a backup by now..
