I'd bet there's an internal battle as we speak between JJ and Son and Scouts about dealing away high picks for one Mr. Peterson.

Stay tuned here folks - no way JJ lets this guy get dealt on the cheap.

Yes like all defense lol. Grab an rb In the 5th or something but we really have enough rbs already though.

We have 4 running backs. Neither of which can be counted on. Usually you go into camp with at least 5...no way we have enough.

That's a steal Cards ... I'd do that now and pay AP .

This is a generational player.

We won't take on that contract after letting Murray go. Only way he comes to Dallas is if he is cut and takes what we were offering Murray or a little more.

And his generation is on the way out.

I can't believe that we have some on here willing to give up a second-round pick for a player on the back side of his career. I want Peterson, but we don't know if he's even got a season left in him, and you don't pay a ransom to find that out.

I would not give up a second. Maybe a third since its late but that's pushing it. I love the depth at RB in this draft. We can come away w possibly a great rb for next decade.

IMO, because of Romo we have a 2 to 3 year window to win the SB, we would be very lucky to have a QB playing at the level Romo's been playing when he is done here, very lucky, so we have to take advantage of it.
I would give a 2nd and renegotiate his contract and have no regrets about it.

assuming it wouldnt be a first rounder, then the draft pick(s) we'd have to give up dont really bother me. Its the stinkin money this guy is making. If I'm calling the shots, no way can I pay a RB that kind of money.

If we were going to base this on Romo's window, we would have went crazy in FA. We haven't yet, and I don't think we'd be crazy enough at this point to give up a premium pick for a 30-year-old running back. Renting him for a year (hopefully) or two (possibly wishful thinking) by giving up a possible long-term starter is not a smart move.

If we want to give up a later-round draft pick where it is more hit and miss that you get even a contributor, I'm OK with that, but not a second.

No one in FA could have an impact like AP could have on this team, not even close, common.
Assuming a RB from this year's draft can replace Murray is wrong, and believe me I like the process and what the FO is doing but AP is a special talent.

I just read one story that says the 'hit rate' on 2nd round picks is right around 50%. Not sure of the accuracy of that, but then I looked at the list of last year's 2nd rounders. Not a lot of immediate impact guys. There was Derek Carr, Jeremy Hill, Jordan Matthews, Davante Adams and maybe a couple others. So I am with you guys that would trade a 2nd round pick--if the contract was team-friendly. But its not. So I must pass. Draft a RB, sign one more vet, and keep an eye on guys that get cut closer to the start of the season.

So pick #44 for AP? Sign me up, not like a high 2nd rounder. How many players in the draft are better at that pick? Long as we don't give him more than we offered Murray

As I have said, I would love to have him, but there's no way I'm paying that price. You give up a potential building block for a player who may not even have anything left in the tank. Peterson has already has passed the best by date for running backs and they can go downhill quickly. I'd risk that for the right price, but a second-round pick and his current contract are not the right price.

Baffling to me that anyone thinks a 30 year old running back, generational or not, is worth picks plus a monster contract.

I hear you. I think in most cases you pass on these kind of trades.

But in this particular situation. This case. I think we almost have to try and get him. If it takes a 2. It takes a 2.

We get AP, and we will barrel over the NFCE and most likely the NFC....,, Thats how much I think of this deal. I don't have to guess if AP is good enough. He is. He is order of magnitudes better then Murray or any Rookie coming out of the Draft. Yes he is 30 but we could platoon him with DMF.....keep them both fresh. Hell, DMF will be 28......???

Lets get that SB. Lets see Romo in a SB.... Maybe 2....beating NE, and ,,,ummm Pittsburgh or Baltimore......

Didn't Peterson say he was willing to restructure/renegotiate his contract if traded to a team of his choosing? Although he has never said how or how much.

I disagree. It would have been cheaper just to keep 26 year old Murray and we saw how they felt about that.

I agree, I wouldn't break the bank either but I read somewhere that if he were dealt he would have to renegotiate his contract, so I would give a 2nd for him if we could negotiate a reasonable contract, reasonable for AP is higher than what Murray wanted but I'd do it.
