They don't have that much leverage.

This is silly

Wrong. they have all the leverage. they own his rights. and he either plays with them this year,or he gives up 12 million dollars.i would not give up my 2nd round pick for a 30 year old RB.

I can't justify a 2nd rounder because there will be younger running backs in this draft who I can take a shot at. 3rd rounder...i'd think about it. And even that's extreme. Remember, this is a guy who doesn't want to play for them. Don't outbid yourself.

I'd probably give up our 2nd round pick for him if we got something back like a 4th. It's a late 2nd. I'd probably roll the dice for a guy like Peterson.

You mean if his contract was much less, right? The way it is now......well, its brutal.

I'd give the 3rd if would redo his deal. Who can you get in the 3rd round that you'd bet would be better than 3 years of AP running behind our OL?

I think that's too high for a 30-year-old back who didn't play last year. Offer them Morris Claiborne, take it or leave it.

Id give a 3rd rounder, but his salary, even if he restructures will never be in the 4-5 million range, and thats seems to be what we will pay, no wonder the FO has said no to AD, they know what the real costs would be.

Peterson is going to want 8m+/yr for probably at least 3 years. I really don't understand this boards infatuation with commiting that kind of $ and now a 2nd rd pick to an old RB. Thats insane to me. If the guy gets cut and takes a 5m/yr deal with only half guaranteed to play here, fine. Otherwise move on

This guy is still talking? He hasn't been right about anything all off season lol

Cowboys have not been bidders for any top players for going on 4 years now. so that's no big shock.Jerry sitting on his wallet again.

Why would ANYONE trade for a 30-year-old RB who hasn't played in a year and comes with $12750, $14750 and $16750 worth of baggage?

I don't understand how anyone can want to give up draft picks for AP and pay him what he'll demand instead of retaining Murray. Makes zero sense to me.

Salary isn't what Dallas cares about. It's guaranteed money. If Peterson were to take $12 million guaranteed, Dallas would likely be interested. If he wants the guaranteed amount Murray received, then there's no interest.

I could see a contract where he gets a $12 million bonus this year with a low base pay that escalates next year to where Dallas would have to restructure the contract to convert the base pay into bonus or get him to take a pay cut if he doesn't prove worthy of that.

If we were a stud RB away from being the likely choice to win the Super Bowl, I'd do whatever it would take to either have kept Murray or go get AP....with our defense the way it is, I can't see investing this much.
