I think the cat is out of the bag on this that Witten has a big influence with the coaches and front office. We heard these rumblings when TO was released, Crayton echoed the same things, and now Dez solidified it once more.

Witten is past his prime and needs to retire. He may be seen as a consummate professional but I just don't see how if he's the one angling for players to be released. How was it that Rico Gathers suffered this "season-ending" concussion in training camp? Is it curious to anyone that Rico was shelved the entire year due to that? It makes a lot sense if Witten felt threatened that his role would be in jeopardy if Rico was to play so he goes to the staff to get him shutdown for the year.

Maybe there's a man wearing #82 reason why these 2nd round TEs just didn't work out over these past years...

I think we found our next Doug Free and Dez Bryant for 2018....:lmao:
Actually it's Ed Werder. Keep up!!!

Rico was shelved because he wasn't ready to play, but we benched Romo for Dak.. OK...

because you always go with the hot hand . Sometimes its the popular move sometimes not . People will cry either way unless you go all the way and win ... even then some will still find something. That was a dam magical season 2016 , you dont mess with mojo that works. Now granted Dak and Romo should of had a competition start of 2017 to push both of them.

No, you go with the guy light years better as a franchise QB, who gave his heart and soul to the team while hanmstrung by the clown Garrett as playcaled fir 8 years, when he’s surrounded by an all pro line and NOW a HR threat that was averaging 5 YPC in first down as well as a somewhat competent OC...

Romo is the better QB .... but who was to say that a wrong turn or hit causing him to break again ..... Then after Benching the guy that brought you an amazing records mess up the lockeroom mojo.. Its easy to see why it was done being non biased towards Cowboys as a Iggles fan

You don’t play QB based on the possibility of getting injured, when he’s cleared to play.

not 3 of 4 times he plays a game.

And?

One of them was a late hit by a Seattle linemen in pre-season when Romo slid awkwardly and was still sitting upright because he was just getting off surgery and was still fat.. a two hundred plus linemen falling on you while sitting will hurt pretty much anybody..

Like the actual experts say, that was standard injury that any player would have gotten. And his recovery time was just as long as the experts said it would, but we decided to go with the bum..

I can't read through everyone's comments in this thread because I don't want to believe that some actually feel Jason Witten is bad for the Cowboys. I know he's not all that he used to be, but some of these young guys coming in need someone to look up to, set an example for and represent what that star on their helmet is truly about. If he didn't even get on the field, he'd be worth his roster spot for that alone. He's only missed one game in his career and that was with a broken jaw. He's played through bad legs, injured spleen and who knows what else. He's not flashy but he's the best of the best in every other area.
