it's terrible when you over pay a qb and a running back isn't
How much would you pay him? He’d make our defense the best in the league. I wouldn’t over pay though, we still need to resign parsons. He’s thst good that I’d sign him even if it meant losing Diggs.
He's gonna get tagged
Not worth our 2 number one picks.
Plus big salary.

well no use wasting time on this as no way jones boys will even attempt to get him.
Micah says he wants him so that does put him in jones boys minds, but that is as far as it will go.

Should they try and get him ? probably, but they might have to extend dak and elliot, and backload the money to them to maybe have
the money to sign a guy like payne.

I think jones boys may extend D and E anyway which is a mistake, so they should try and get a premium FA, but jerry has already
indicated this isnt in their plans for 2023.

Anyone see Cowboys spending 100 million on defensive tackle? Because I don't. And is that his price? I'd be for it if it especially if we think we are a defensive tackle away.....
I doubt he'll get that much. But I see around 70 to 80 million in a four year deal.

Not sure about that. He drafted BJ Raji pretty high back in the day, and at the time, Raji (who obviously was a giant NT) was also seen as a guy who could get up the field as well. He was kind of a Vince Wilfork hybrid freak type that obviously didnt quite live up to that for the long haul.
I'm sure McCarthy would *prefer* a superfreak 350lb NT who can get upfield over a more pedestrian run stuffing NT. Who wouldn't?

But we haven't seen any willingness to invest real picks or money into run stopping DTs/NTs.

Osa is the biggest spend, and he seems more of a base 3front DE or 4front pass rush DT.

We would need to add a starting caliber CB in order for that to happen, but hea he would be a great signing for this team

That's more of a Joneses issue imo than a Mac issue. The Joneses for some reason have been intensively stubborn about not drafting an elite DT prospect in the first round or signing one in free agency for years now. Hopefully that changes.

The real question is do you gut the O to improve the D?
Because signing him means not adding a WR other than a pick. Losing one of your only 2 playmakers on offense.
We have lots of holes including DT but it’s really about putting all your eggs in one basket
Anyone would won’t to add Payne but when you don’t have to cap space you have to maybe look at the next tier DT instead of Payne

If WAS let’s him walk, how many teams would be in the bidding for him?

Think the Joneses are going to compete with that?

I’d love to have Payne same as anyone, but there’s no reason whatsoever to figure the Jones team to stray from their proven winning formula.

We may actually be better off signing two of guys like Tomlinson or Hargrave, but they won’t even do that.

I expect them to sign the next Carlos Watkins and HOPE he turns into Payne.

The only way we are getting a dominant DT in Dallas any time soon is if one of these third round picks plays way over their head. Keep trying.

forget all the chatter jones aren't gonna do anything logical its party time and they aren't gonna budge on anything they have in there mind a winning way and thats all she wrote so talk all you want because when it boils down to them they are smarter than any football gm they've proved it in 27 years so when the draft starts you will see them yuking it up in there little world.

They haven't signed an even mediocre DT until they found Hankins on the ash heap. And good for them for that, but that just ain't enough.

People are mistaking my comments on DTs. I don't say that MM doesn't think they're important, he just hasn't shown interest in classic 4 man front DTs. I think his top priority is a NT. Or two. And 3front DE/4front DT like Osa.

No,

Frankly I think Payne is exactly we need in the DL , but I would understand if jones’es do go there, he would be too expensive and we have many holes .

But we need an impact making DT to pair with Hankins , Osa and Watkins. Cut bait with Gallimore , Bohanna is a backup.

WR takes time to develop and so I would hope they go FA and put a decent speedy with good hands guy opposite to Lamb , so that our vertical game is getting some respect. If Hilton is available for cheap we can have him in WR3 , unfortunately Gallup has to show more before we can have him as WR3. Noah as Wr3 or Wr2 is a big no, no.
the draft should cover OL, RB, CB, DT positions.

IMO he will be a Bear. They have 100+ million in cap and need everything. They are like the Jags last year who can just overpay whoever they want
That sounds about right.

Even if you remove the recent FA history, Payne would be a tough get.

The problem I have with it all…..we know they probably won’t even call his agent, but would it be treated the same way if he was already here? No, they’d be doing all they could to keep him, even if we didn’t win anything with him.

So why not pursue that same player that may actually move the needle?

They are more worried about having cap room for Diggs who is a lesser player overall, but…..is family.

The relationship with the players thing is infuriating, and until desperation sets in somehow and a Parcells type comes here and is honest in player evaluation instead of a yes man, we will have to rely on dumb luck.

It won’t be cheap for sure

Extending Payne at an expected $20 million per year, with DT Jonathan Allen set to count $21 million against the cap, would have Washington at over $40 million for its two starting tackles if they re-sign Payne. Franchising Payne would cost the Commanders $18 million.
The clown show is the fans who think spending on high priced FAs is some magic formula to winning a championship because the Rams did it.

The magic blueprint. Lol
