Later in the season they cleaned up and improved the run defense, by making some adjustments. When they got Hankins, that help a lot as to running up the middle.
However, those adjustments came at a price, the pass rush suffered. and it cost us.

And the run was more vulnerable to the outside all year long. Even after the adjustments. So they will think a few mid tier DT's or mid round DT's will still be ok. And as usual focus on another project DE.
Because the run defense did improve, does not make it all that better, but they think it will. We know that is how this FO thinks.

The best thing going for the defense, again, is that DQ is back, and can look to see how to improve this no matter what they do in FA, but look to the draft.

He’s going to want top dollar as is 11, 7, and 88. Plus we need to tag Tony and bring back Wilson. Ugh
I would dump Tony, Wilson, Zeke, Tyron all in order to get Payne. He will probably around 20 million per year.

Go cheap at RB and sign a veteran and take one in the 2nd or 3rd round of the draft.

This is all just hype because Jerry needs to keep the idiot fan interested in buying merchandise for a franchise that has done nothing for nearly 3 decades. The Cowboys PR needs to get an early start after their advertised golden boy crapped the bed in the playoffs.

If the Skins resign another DT for 20 million it will be a big mistake. Cant build a team that way.

will they do it? who knows.

Pouting wont solve anything.

Cowboys manipulate the cap every year. They just do stupid things like resign Zeke instead of spending big on an outside FA.

If they want to win one, its going to take risks, trades, big FA signings, all of it.

I think McCarthy doesn't value DTs much.

He wants rushmen on pass downs and a big NT on run downs. Class 4-3 DTs don't fit his scheme. He wants role players.
McCarthy came here and the FO immediately signed 2 big guys for the defense in McCoy and Poe. They didn’t work out but to say McCarthy doesn’t like big NTs is wrong

So here we come to the CAP HELL argument and those fans who blindly say....the CAP money's gone up. Well indeed it has, but all that means is that EVERY team has more money, it's not so much how much money we've got, it's how much we have in comparison to others.
We arent in the top end FA market.
I was speaking from Commanders perspective….how much do they invest in the DY position with all the holes they have?

I kind of feel like they will but who knows. That’s a lot of money for the DT position.

Id be all for it. He would be the anchor that our defence needs. With the players we have on defence, he'd make us the best defence in the league. Parsons would have a field day with him on the team. With him on the team, Parsons would return to being a QB's worst nightmare.
I agree. Makes guys better. We saw Hanskins presence alone make guys better. Imagine a DT the caliber of Payne? Well worth the investment.

The cap increasing never really means anything, the Agents just use it all up in pending contracts.

It means something; just not as much as too many think.

It certainly helps; but as you said more money just means higher payouts.

Payne has the potential to put the defense in the “historically good” category, but seriously pursuing him would go against their current cap philosophy.

How much would you pay him? He’d make our defense the best in the league. I wouldn’t over pay though, we still need to resign parsons. He’s thst good that I’d sign him even if it meant losing Diggs.
You sound like the Jones' boys. We like our guys, there's better out there, but we like our guys. We want to overpay Diggs and Gallup, but not Daron Payne. We can use that money on Odigizua, or Golston. That is the thinking that will forever keep us mediocre.

Why didn’t Washington pick up his 5th year option. Payne used to whip Conner Williams butt every time he went against him.

Don't mean to be a debbie downer but any amount of capspace the Cowboys can free up will be used to retain some of their free agents. Even then, you can expect to lose several guys.

Just as a reminder, Dallas is already at the cap and has these free agents: Wilson, LVE, Pollard, Steele, McGovern, Rush, Watkins and Schultz. That's not even getting into the recent pick ups like Hilton, Hankins, Peters, etc. or the lesser guys like Goodwin, Brown, etc.

I realize that teams can move money around but that ability isn't infinite. Dallas has a lot of big contracts and guaranteed money on the books that they just can't ignore.

I just hope they address DT in the draft. Its a GLARING issue.
Yeah, let's sign our guys, and stay mediocre. No need to get better, maybe the NFC east will underperform again and get a break in the playoffs like the Eagles did this year.

We need to get a real GM, but that's not going to happen either!
