That's pretty misleading. Those final 8 games are wildly skewed by his 7 catch 213 yard performance.

no more skewed than his numbers looking pedestrian because of brad johnsons 3 games and romos steelers game.

I seem to remember Jerry Rice did quite a bit of lobbying for the ball, too. He should have been cut ten years before he retired. ;)

I don't ever recall Rice screaming at his coaches on the sideline like a maniac, or criticizing his QB and OC.

I love how some fans think that the Cowboys Offense will be in steep decline if we release Terrell Owens.

If anyone could stand to lose a player like Terrell Owens, it would be the Dallas Cowboys.

However, the main problem with the Cowboys on offense is Jason Garrett and that has nothing to do with Terrell Owens being here or not.

If we could afford to release Terrell Owens, I would be all for it.

An offense with Tony Romo, Jason Witten, Felix Jones, Marion Barber III, Roy Williams and a decent Offensive Line is nothing to sneeze at.

Besides the Cardinals, what other Playoff team features an overly dominating receiver like Terrell Owens anyway?

I dont remember Jerry going on the NFLN, ESPN etc. complaining about his lack of looks or his offensive coordinators. Every player wants the ball and gets heated during the heat of the moment, those things dont bother me. Its 3 days later when he sits down with Deion or does his Wednesday press conferences and his ego/insecurities insist he tells the world how his lack of production is everyone elses fault. That is the real problem with TO he doesnt know when to shut the F___ up!

carolina and indy have some pretty good WRs. :p: but regardless...this team needs to focus less on passing anyway. we need to use that behemoth OL we assembled and play a power game like the giants and panthers. we definitely have the RBs to do it! less pressure on romo, hopefully less mistakes....more short to medium passing with RAC from slants and crossing patterns instead of going vertical.....

media coverage 10 and 20 years ago wasn't even a fraction of what it is today.

I'm torn re: Owens. I don't mind the team looking the other way for a player if he produces, and Owens definitely produces. This team was 20-25 plays away from being really competitive this year. A few of those were on Owens, maybe, but not most of them. You don't drop a 10+ TD WR who draws double teams easily. Especially when you've recently proven your other WRs can't benefit from the single coverage.

I think my stance is that the guy can't be allowed to call out teammates or coaches in the media, under any circumstances. We should sit tight with him, see how the draft board breaks, and then make our decision accordingly.

The difference in him being here and not is $600,000. Hardly a huge cap hit.

can anyone explain this to me? I am not arguing that it's false - I would just like to understand how it works. Thanks.

GOODBYE OWENS!! I compare Owens personality to Shockey...loud mouth..outspoken..alpha male in the huddle. Romo and Eli are also similiar...quiet.."aw shucks attitude"...Shockey left that team and Eli felt a million times more confident..It wasnt just a coincidence that they went on a spree ever since!! I bet if a year and a half ago you told Giant fans to release thier best offensive weapon, they would laugh and call you crazy!!!..Well we all know happened when they did...superbowl and number one seed the following year...

if we get rid of Owens, we can turn into a ball-control offense, and still have big-play capabilities in the passing game

we have Romo at QB, a stud-#1 WR in Roy, and don't forget the speed of Austin to still make some big plays in the passing game

an offense that can pound it down your throat AND break your back with the long ball, will be a very hard one to defend

all depends if Garrett is willing to change his philosophy

Let's see. You can have a 35 yo HOF WR who still appears to be able to produce at a high level or you can cut him. You're tied into a 9 million dollar contract no matter what. It will cost you another .6 million for the cut.

Unless he's a big enough distraction to cost them a game then you keep him. If he's cost you a chance at a SB then you cut him now. No waiting.

well...essentially...and this is all made up numbers mind you.....

for 2009:

base salary: 6.5 mil
signing bonus towards cap this year: 2 mil
cap space this year: 8.5 mil

if cut:
base salary: 0
remaining signing bonus unpaid in contract immediately goes on cap: 9 mil
cap space this year: 9 mil

cost to cut player: 9 mil - 8.5 (if he was still here) = 500k

looking at the big picture

what would be the best year to get out of TO's contract?

I don't want to go into the need of TO. I just want to ask one thing:

Why do you all think that if TO wont be a cowboy next season he is going to be cut ? I don't udnerstand why we shouldn't try to trade him ?!

We eat the signing bonus in both cases and the other team can give him a new contract. So where is the problem ? We should get a second for him at least. Would be stupid to cut him IMO.

Only thing is, he's owed a $3.1 million roster bonus in March.
