Losing Witten would be crippling W/O replacement

Witten is too slow. I love the guy and he was great but he is too slow to be an effective TE. TE needs to be a priority this draft. Top 3 pick for them. Shultz is a bust and Jarwin can’t block. They need a starter, Jarwin or mix in and a legit blocking TE. Shultz needs to be cut and Witten should retire.

He’s never been fast.

So you want to pick a TE at 17? It's not whether Jarwin is Witten, obviously Jarwin creates mismatches that Witten couldn't. It's about development. How can you say what Jarwin can be if he's held back from developing because of Witten's presence.
What mismatches is Jarwin creating?

How can you teach guys how to block? You are either willing or not.

I believe jarwin is "willing " but he doesnt have the muscle or physical tools to be an acceptable blocker. Its plays where jarwin is seen being lifted right up in the air vs defenders.
And they are asking to be more of an inline blocker than what Jay novacek another shield position blocker was asked to be back in the days.
These TEs are even ask to block DEs on given occasions and they are just not equipped and capable of doing that.
And it hurts us in both run blocking and occassionally pass block sets

Jason Witten is one of the greatest TEs of all time and the greatest in Franchise History. There’s no question about that. But with all due respect to Witten, him retiring again is quite possibly an addition by subtraction. Give me a TE that can run and cause matchup problems for defenses. He’s never had the speed, but was a miss match in the red zone during his prime. That guy is now history. Unfortunately, we didn’t have a coaching staff competent enough to realize his handicap on this offense.

If jarwin is that weak of a blocker where he cannot be trusted on a more full time basis or vast more reps than what hes being asked,..then he doesn't need to be on this team, imo
Then hes just too much of a one track pony and we need to find a more complete player.

Also if we miss Witten as much in decline as he showed then it will be because our personnel group has failed to come up with capable competent TEs.
Jared cook was out there in free agency but we dont believe in dishing out big money to vet players but look how hes helped and contributed to saints pass offense.

Witten has been a progress stopper for the last 7 seasons.

He is the most overrated player of all time by Cowboys fans. They use his career receptions number and ability to kind of block as an excuse.

He was durable and consistent. But he’s never been close to the best TE in the NFL at any point in his career.

Jettison Witten and hope he plays for your competitor, pads his stats and hope he gets 3 yards and falls down on 3rd and 10, like he has for here for the past 5 years. Oh yeah, watch him yell OLE’ as he lets his defender disrupt the play.

LLLOOOLLL, STOP VERDICT! LLLOOOLLL

The cowboys need to get a legit TE prospect in the draft or free agency. For sure.

but “crippling” is way too strong a term. Witten is an average TE at best nowadays. His current production level shouldn’t be that hard to replace.

Elliott scores when he’s given the ball. He needs Dak to give him the ball, while Dak has his hands on the ball every play basically.
You mean when he tripped over his own ego in the Rams game. Playoffs stop it. Make sure you know what you’re talking about before you open your mouth

Dak was trash in the Rams game. It’s cute you want to blame Zeke and praise Dak for garbage stats against soft cover 2 prevent defenses after floundering around in pass heavy drives for the first six series..

Maybe the offensive coaches and Jarwin need to study games from the Novacek era.
Very similar players...TE blocking is more about getting 8n the way and screening off defenders. Unless you have a beast at TE, he shouldn’t be blocking OTs 1-1.
