Marvel Unveils Films Through 2019 Including 'Dr. Strange,' 'Black Panther' And 'Captain Marvel'

Anyone remember the 70's tv show Shazam!? I have fond memories. As a kid in a small town in California just outside of Los Angeles, they came and filmed one episode right nearby the house I lived. I remember seeing the crew, and that famous van from the series. I was addicted to that show as a kid.

Here is the tv intro....

Hm. Civil war is one of the most interesting series.

But I don't see how that will be a captain America standalone. It involved a TON of characters, and some of the more interesting aspects about it are null in this... Like superheroes having to disclose their identities.

Everyone knows Stark is Iron Man. Thor has no other name. Captain America's identity isn't secret. And banner is a big green rage monster. And the other two don't even have masks.

I expect it to be more about being under some form of control rather than protecting or not protecting secret identities.

I also expect that they're trying very hard to have Spider Man involved in it.

But it will certainly be a stripped down version of the original storyline, involving far fewer characters. Not necessarily a bad thing.

Spider-man can't be in it. He's sony's property and they've starts a new canon for him. But you're right. It will likely be some stripped down version. It's just interesting that they would do that seeing how the winter soldier was kind of along those lines already.

Google around for news on the ongoing negotiations between Marvel and Sony. There have been ongoing discussions about working out a deal to share the character.

No guarantees the deal gets done, but there have been talks. If they can agree on the terms, I think it will be mutually beneficial to both parties. But it's always tough when money is involved and even tougher when you're talking about this amount of money.

It seems like the Russo brothers are big fans of that storyline (among a few others). I think that after the huge success of Winter Soldier, they have the studio's blessing to go in pretty much whatever direction they want.

I've even heard that it may be the Russos and not Whedon, that directs Avengers 3.

I didn't realize they were negotiating. But I also just googled and Feige neither confirmed nor denied it. It's hard to say if they actually are negotiating, but the door is certainly open for interpretation.

But yeah it would be tough. Kind of the same reason the Halo movie never got off the ground.

Personally, I don't think the Spider-Man fits well. Where do you introduce him? Do you assume his storyline was ongoing while the avengers were tearing up New York? It just doesn't fit retroactively. And does he need another reboot or standalone film to bridge the gap... Seems like injustice to just introduce him in someone else's movie.

I think it would be interesting for them to use Spider-Man as a new jumping off point, or centric character for a new avengers.

I doubt that Marvel would confirm or deny things until something concrete happens. Unless they were to strike a deal, I doubt they would want anyone to know that they tried and failed.

I would anticipate some 'shared footage' of his exploits in the two most recent Amazing films being shown, possibly being reviewed by Cap, Iron Man or both.

I think it would be interesting for them to use Spider-Man as a new jumping off point, or centric character for a new avengers.

I think it would be more of an 'appearance' type thing, much like they're doing with Hawkeye or the Hulk. No solo movies, just appearances in ensemble films.

Sony would likely continue to handle any and all solo stuff.

If they can get the money deals taken care of (a big if!), I think both sides could greatly benefit.

I can't see the video (stupid work internet filter!) but I remember Shazam! It was a good show but I enjoyed its spinoff ISIS better. I do not recall the actress' name but she was cute as heck.

Does anyone remember Electra Woman & DynaGirl? It was a slight knockoff of the 1960's Batman show. I hated the Batman show but enjoyed the Electra show. It was quirky and very low budget even for Saturday morning television programming but it was ahead of its time portraying a female superhero duo.

Yeah, sony snapped it up and it scoring $$$$ with it.
They should just put spider woman/silk in the avengers and have her make references to her cousin throughout the film lol

I do remember it well. As a child I liked it. I looked for it.

Sure, I used to love the Sid and Marty Krofft stuff when I was a kid.

Wow.....good find PJ and thanks for the link. One of my favorite shows as a kid. Thanks for that link. Now I really feel old.

I bet half those DC movies don't get made. Once they discover no one wants to see anything DC besides Batman and Superman (or maybe Wonder Woman) then they'll all get brought to the chopping block.

justice league has interest.... Shazam as well...

Justice League fits within the Batman/Superman dynamic so ya that will have interest. Shazam? Eh, not so much.

I rank them like so:

Mercedes characters - superman, batman, Spider-Man, Wonder Woman
Bmw characters - iron man, capt America, Thor
Chevy - xmen,.....
Kia - aquaman, green lantern
Etzel - Shazam

Wonder Woman isn't that high. Wolverine is arguably the most popular comic book character in existence so he should be up there - even though his stand-alone movies sucked.

You may not think much of Wolverine, but he is most definitely one of Marvel's most popular characters and has been for quite some time. Objectively no one can deny that.
