Jerrah has made it clear that he is willing to take a risk when there is tremendous upside and the reward is potentially great enough.

He's going to take a risk on this dufus who can barley do enough to stay on the Jaguars roster?

This will end nothing, but the idea that we have no interest. He will be dropped within days and we will pick him up as we did with troubled cohorts Pacman and Tank.

I seriously doubt we, or anyone, will rush to pick him up. A troubled past is a troubled past, but this is a troubled present. He will be suspended. I see him getting picked up midseason or so when a team losses a receiver or they want to keep his rights for next year (ala Tank). Jerry has rolled dice before on troubled coke heads but he also loved that receiver and was extremely close to him. To a point that he spearheaded our entire front running for assisting troubled players.

He couldnt even wait to get somewhere safe to do it!

Please, have you tried snorting coke in a car? The logistics of it just dont work out for the normal person.

actually, yes.

and that is why I feel I've got some considerable insight into what they were doing and why I feel it is consistent with just being drunk idiots who happened on a score.

What's it going to be then, eh?

The difference between Matt Jones and Irvin (and Cris Carter for that matter) is the work ethic on and off the field. Something like this shouldn't end you're career if you see it as a wake up call. I dont think Jones will.

That is the whole point.

Johnson and Jones both were fools who got in trouble, but neither had a reputation for being lazy underachievers.

That is what will keep Matt Jones out of Dallas.

Wow, dude gets arrested and everyone has already convicted him, convinced he's an addict and have the league suspending him. I guess its gotten to the point in this country where a trial is a mere formality. I know it doesn't look good, but can't we show show restraint? Cops never make mistakes? Cops never simply make ***** up? Did they field test that white powder? In the end its probably as it looks, but shouldn't we hold up for a bit?

Dude is right.

Let's not convict him of cocaine possession yet.

It totally could have been meth.

He probably is not an addict or has a bad habit, but you don't have to be to get in trouble in the NFL or just the U.S. for that matter. He got caught. It is going to be hard to beat this. It will take him getting off on a technicality(could happen) or somehow pleaing to a lesser charge. Still damaging for a guy that is not one of the top players in the game. It is not about forgiveness, but worth. He has not proven himself enough to be worth any trouble to any team that would have him on their team.

Hold up for what? I suppose we could wait to see if the story is completely untrue but when you are in possession of cocaine, there aren't many outs.

Did you read the article? He was busted with powder in the car AND on his fingers.

Might be a bit early to convict, cuz he might plead out. But he's certainly guilty of stupidity.

FAYETTEVILLE, AR -- Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones has been arrested on cocaine charges in Arkansas.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office says officers arrested Jones and two other men as they sat in a Toyota 4Runner in an unlit parking lot in a known drug area.

The preliminary arrest report shows an officer saw Jones sitting in the back seat of the car with a white card with a white powdery substance on it, and a credit card in his other hand.

The officer said he opened the door and asked Jones to "put his hands where he could see them."

Authorities say Jones didn't comply right away and hid his left hand. The officer drew his gun and ordered Jones out of the vehicle. Jones got out and the officer put him in handcuffs.

A second officer placed the other two men under arrest. They're identified as Benjamin Cook, 26, and Jared Hicks, 25.

Jones is charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. Cook and Hicks face misdemeanor charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Jones is entering his 4th season with the Jaguars. He was the 21st overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.

Since making the transition from college quarterback to NFL wide receiver, Jones' career in Jacksonville has mostly been a disappointment.

Dallas has enough young talent at the position that will be ready to step up and make plays this year... You can't go out and sign every freakin' player that becomes available, it's ALWAYS better develop in house talent...

Unfortunate.

Talk about somebody who had it all in front of him. Well, I too was interested in the possability of getting this guy on the cheap. However, looks as though he is definatly not going to be ready to contribute to any NFL team, any time soon. Even if he does, somehow, manage to get around this latest trouble, the specture of addiction will not be so easy to over come. Assuming, of course, that he ever does.

Unfortunate.

Check out the article on espn.com... Jones admitted to officers that the substance was cocaine. He's guilty. Please proceed with the bashing!

Differnce being that Irvin was an intergal part of team that was in the middle of championship runs.

Jones has been a underachieving WR since he got into the league.

You can forgive a superstar that is helping you win superbowls.

You can't forgive an underachieving player who has yet to help you do anything.

Agreed on the "difference".

But... barring his possible drug problem... things could be different in Dallas for Jones.

Jerry will do his duedillegence and then decide. THAT MUCH we do know.

For some of you who wanted him. Sorry if it has been posted, I did a quick scan and didn't see it.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP)—Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones faces a felony drug charge in his former college town after police say he was inside a car cutting up cocaine with a credit card.

The 25-year-old Jones and two others were arrested early Thursday. A police report said officers approached the car and an officer drew his handgun after Jones did not immediately show his hands.

Police said they searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag filled with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue.

Jared Hicks and Benjamin Cook were also arrested on misdemeanor drug charges. Jones will be arraigned Friday on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance.

Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver said he was waiting to learn details of the case.

“We’re trying to investigate that now,” Weaver said. “We don’t have all the facts. We will comment on that once we have all the facts.”

Jones, a star quarterback at Arkansas and a first-round pick in 2005, failed to develop into the go-to receiver Jacksonville thought he could be.

Last season, coach Jack Del Rio became increasingly frustrated with Jones’ demeanor and work ethic, making him inactive for three games. In the offseason, the Jaguars signed free agent Jerry Porter and traded for former first-round pick Troy Williamson.
