Hold on now -- using a drug doesn't mean you have a "habit" - that's a big jump there

Please, sitting in a dark parking slot snorting lines=habit.

As it is with A LOT of other people more so than Matt Jones. I know lawyers who toke and Drs who snort. They would be stupid to go to work in that condition but it is what it is and this is far from new. I would be hard pressed to believe that there is an NFL team out there who has less than half their players enjoying a drug of some kind.

If Matt Jones was here last year and scored on that Crayton miss TD... this thread would be very different.

And when they get busted I don't feel sorry for them. They are grown men who make their own choices in life. So when Goodell throws the book at them then the only person they need to blame is themselves no one else.

They showed what was important and what was not. Yet I come here and hear all this crying of how bad Goodell is and how this poor little guy needs another chance.

They are grown men and need to act like it for a change instead of all these pity parties that many want to throw them.

As for the comment "if Jones was here last year and made the catch this thread would be different"? Not in my view I don’t associate bad behavior based on if a player catches a football or not. Somehow if you are a good player then you can do whatever you want to, I don’t buy into that way of thinking. These players know the consequences of their action they need to grow up or get out.

seems like you are making some assumptions about what was meant by "early morning hours"

1 am, 2 am -- those are early morning. and you'll commonly see news reports describe that time in that way because it sounds more dramatic than "really late at night"

Yeah, your right. 12- 6am could be interpreted many ways. Early morning hours does add to the drama.

Just hate to see another young man blowing / throwing away an opportunity of a life time.

Guys could simply have got drunk, scored some blow and then pulled over to snort it.

Habit means you do something habitually. The behavior he exhibited could just as likely be a "once in a while, partying with the boys"-thing as evidence of a habit.

I do agree he's an idiot. I don't care if people use drugs -- it is the poor judgment that gets me.

He couldnt even wait to get somewhere safe to do it!

Please, have you tried snorting coke in a car? The logistics of it just dont work out for the normal person.

You have no idea what youre talking about. More than likely him and a friend went out and partied. On returning to whoever's house it was they wanted to do the blow but there was someone inside that they didnt want to see them do it.

As for the logistics, it takes a flat surface, a credit card and a dollar bill. Heck you can do it with a key.

But really this is something you know very little about so perhaps you should stop talking about it.

I agree. They made a choice and some will pay for it, some won't. I don't feel sympathy for this type of situation. He is a guy that was breaking a law and rolling the dice he wouldn't get caught and he just happened to get caught. It happens.

I am not a godell fan but it has nothing to do with how he is throwing the book at players. I don't mind that in the least. I welcome it. I say he is bad because he has sucked. I love his stance but that is it.

Just throwing it out there that just about everything is forgivable... especially for Jerry Jones.

No need to assume or read into it. ;)

Differnce being that Irvin was an intergal part of team that was in the middle of championship runs.

Jones has been a underachieving WR since he got into the league.

You can forgive a superstar that is helping you win superbowls.

You can't forgive an underachieving player who has yet to help you do anything.

Well, if he was going to be cut I'd say this will be his last nail in the coffin in that respect.

Don't know why but a little relieved.

Have fun sitting out a while.

IF anything, this is just the beginning of the Matt Jones debate. Once he gets released by the Jags, its really going to start.

I also believe Goodell should continue with the harsh punishments but he has to do it to "both" sides of the fence.(players & management)

So far, his picking and choosing on the management's side of the fence SUCKS.

I betcha Belichik (sp?) has a tattoo on his @rse of Goodell's lips.

I doubt it. Jones is going to be suspended to start and doesn't have nearly the talent that previous acquisitions in similar situations have.

I'm wondering if the suspension for 1st time Cocaine is going to be the same as Pot.

Back when Irvin got busted for coke my first thought was that his career was over just because it is on another level like you said. I understand how it is viewed even though personally I could care less if someone wants to screw up their life with hard core drugs. Just as long as they aren't screwing up other people's lives with their drug use.

The difference between Matt Jones and Irvin (and Cris Carter for that matter) is the work ethic on and off the field. Something like this shouldn't end you're career if you see it as a wake up call. I dont think Jones will.

Yes, that will be quite interesting as cocaine possession is a far more serious offense than marijuana possession in the legal system.
