Oh God, not this again. If only he were as good as some people make him out to be.

no kidding, people act like we don't have a WR capable of averaging 11.7 yards a catch

But we currently don't have one who had 65 catches last season in 16 games, much less 12.

Matt Jones is not going to get that here

Patrick Crayton was the forgotten man last year, the 3rd receiver at best, and averaged half the receiving yards a game that Matt Jones did

No, he won't.

But unlike the vast majority of what we currently have, Jones has shown that he's capable of doing it.

I think even you would agree that the guy had his best season as a pro by far and finally started to look like an NFL receiver.

Crayton has shown that if he has a larger role in an offense, he could do better, his YPC is better than Jones', as well as his longest receptions, and TD grabs

Crayton is our Matt Jones if you think about it, he's a possession WR, and is average when called upon to start

Crayton showed what he did with one of the league's greatest receivers drawing constant double-team attention.

He reaped the benefits of being an afterthought.

And I think he's maxed-out his limited athleticism.

Jones did what he did last season with no other threats taking coverage away other than a decent running game.

I just think Jones has upside and ability that Crayton lacks.

I'm not advocating getting rid of Crayton, but adding Jones.

Given the house cleaning Dallas has been doing I seriously doubt Matt Jones will be coming to Dallas.

but as Robert DeNiro so eloquently put it in "Heat", there's a flip-side to that coin

a #1 WR who is healthy and in the lineup, is going to see passes thrown his way, and it seemed that in 12 games as the #1 WR, the best he could muster with those opportunities was 11.7 yards a catch and 2 TDs

I have serious doubts he will even be considered given his off the field troubles. I think there is a genuine desire by the team to avoid that with this squad. They tried the talent over character method and it was a disaster.

I think you're probably right - unfortunately.

But it may depend on what they're going for as far as the 'house cleaning' goes.

If they're avoiding off-field transgressions altogether, why sign Sensabaugh?

If they're weeding out locker room lawyers, that doesn't apply to Jones.

So it may yet be a possibility.

Given this team's current group of receivers, and their injury histories, I'd like more insurance.

color me unduly impressed

And 65 catches, you seem to keep leaving that part out.

Better than the numbers Roy Williams put up.

Going by that assessment, Williams failed utterly even as a #2.

But I have faith that he'll be better this season.

I think the object was both from Pacman to now Ellis. I think Dallas has had enough of the head cases and it has not served this team we have lost and now it is time to put together a team not a bunch of prima donna head cases who can't stay out of trouble or keep their mouth shut. Right now at least in my view we have talent to win but this group of players needs to understand and play as a team enough of the individual BS and enough with the distraction. As soon as Jones were to sign Matt Jones the media is going to make a mockery out of Dallas cleaning itself up.

The big 50 thousand dollar question is why? We just rid the team of the troublesome players IE, Tank, Pac, T.O. and hopefully the whining baby Ellis.

So we should start all over again, with a drug using WR that has more problems and issues that would reduce the possibility of regaining team chemistry.

Jerry is a risk taker, but in this case I don't think he would roll the dice on this situation.

I'm not leaving that part out at all, I pointed out that a #1 WR is going to get the opportunity to catch a fair amount of passes, it's what he does with them that is the key factor, and Matt Jones was fairly average, are you telling me that we don't have a receiver on the roster capable of being an average starter?

and in no way, shape or form was Roy Williams a top 3, pass target with us last year

I look at it like this, do the potential rewards outweigh the risks? I don't think so, the dude is average

You could very well be right, but I don't agree with the approach.

Again, Owens didn't have off-field problems - he's gone.

Neither did Greg Ellis - and he's soon to be gone.

And Gerald Sensabaugh did and he was signed here.

So I'm not sure exactly what the Cowboys are and aren't looking for.

Who do we have that's a certainty?

Every receiver on this roster has question marks, including the assumed #1.

Owens problems were spilling into the locker room.

Ellis is purely a financial situation.

I agree on Sensabaugh. Frankly his signing confuses me.

but no character concerns

And why was that?

didn't develop Romo's trust, which Matt Jones will have to attempt to do, and he was possibly lazy, which Matt Jones has a history of

Matt has to juggle that with learning a new playbook

Sorry, but I don't see the media praising them right now so I wouldn't base my on-field decisions on what the media thinks anyway.

I see Jones as a guy who was out with his friends and screwed-up, badly.

But he did that once.

As far as I know, he has no history of failed drug tests or repeat run-ins with the law.

The two beers thing was a non-factor to me, just like it was with the NFL.

This guy got a wake-up call last year and stepped-up and got serious as a player.

He seems to have shown genuine remorse and I think it would be a win-win for this team to give him a chance.

I just think the odds of Dallas getting Matt Jones is slim. I'm not basing this solely on the media but I don't think the Cowboys are interested in distraction and have been in the process of eliminating distractions. If Dallas was looking for a short cut at WR I think they would have made a move in FA with a player with less baggage than Matt Jones. I also think the club feels these current players can do the job.
