Well that pretty much says everything I need to know about you. You've just defended a habitual, lazy, underachieving, coke-head by calling Garrard a loser.....a man whose fought adversity from a young age when his mother passed from cancer (for which he's started a foundation for research and awareness) and was then diagnosed with Crohn's disease...for which is has also become a spokesman for it's awareness.

Who is the loser here?

Hint....it's not Garrard.

I could really give a rats #$% that he beat crohn's disease, while its nice, it doesnt pertain to what Qb he is which is a highly overrated one. If we are going to take this topic on him in that direction I am sure everyone here can vouch for what a *** clown he is when he dresses like a street pimp on holloween for post game press conferences.....

how can JJones not take a look at M. Jones now? As others have stated, Stanback and Hurd haven't really proven anything, just like the new rookies who are currently on the team. And then you have Austin and RWilliams who have been injured in the past. Romo would definitely benefit w/another tall wr who can go and get the ball.

It would seem to counteract some of the offseason "character" moves, but if JJones spins it right, he could easily make M. Jones look like a pity party vs. what type of players the Boys had last year (Pacman and Tank).

I say JJones checks him out with his staff (Hill) and then makes a similar type of deal that he made with Pacman that allows the Boys to cut him whenever at no cost to the team.

What's interesting is Stanback was suppose to be Matt Jones in terms of a tall, fast QB from college switching to the WR position. I could see them justifying a swap especially since Stanback still seems to be behind in learning the WR position (not just from injuries, but just not getting it).

Guilty confession:

A part of me wishes we'd bring him in. If he doesn't work hard or just acts lazy, cut him. He has tons of talent, though.

I know. :eek::

This guy is not as good as Miles Austin or Patrick Crayton and it's debatable that he's better than Sam Hurd at this point so how could he help us?

What?

You have to at least entertain this guy. He did have 65 catches in only 3/4 of a season last year, on a run first offense with an average at best QB.

Here's the thing, the pressure would be off of him here. He could settle into the number 2 reciever spot and finish polishing his skills the right way. He would not be under pressure to be the man and would benefit from the single coverage that he would be sure to receive with Witten, Williams, and Felix in the route. And could you imagine if he could be our holder as well. What would that open up?

Look at it like this, this could be our chance to get Jacksonville back on the Jimmy Smith deal. I think we would be Matt's first choice and I am 100% sure Jones has interest. A part of me thinks he has been waiting for Matt.

We certainly could use another Jones.

Your full of it. How can losing 3 starting Olineman in the 1st week and having basically no reliable WRs be a good baramoter. Walker was hurt, Jones was out for some of the time. Come on...think about it!

I'm not dissing Jones, just saying you underestimate Garrard by a long shot.
co sign garrad is far from a bum

that o-line was completely decimated with injuries last year and that greatly impacted their offense.

not only was their passing game hurt but their running game which has been strong for several years was not as effective.

at the same time i feel jones has a lot of potential and was very good last year considering what i said about the o-line. even with their offensive woes at time and lack of time garrad recieved in the pocket matt was still effective

I believe the roster moves made the last four months speaks loudly about Matt Jones and his possible future as a Dallas Cowboy.

Why anyone would want to sign a cokehead who is one transgression away from a suspension is beyond me. We got rid of Pacman who was in a similar position (one transgression away from a suspension) I don't think we'll sign another.

Interesting watching some folks jumping on / off / on this bandwagon. :laugh2:

I have no idea if Jones gets to Dallas or not. Jerry does some things at times that I'd have bet against. I'm against it but if he comes then I'll support him. I was a huge Jones fan when he came out. And I still think I was right about his talent.

But it takes more than talent to stay in the bigs.

Roy Williams
Miles Austin
Patrick Crayton

Sam Hurd
Isaiah Stanback.

Kevin Ogletree
Travis Wilson
Julian Hawkins
Manuel Johnson

Cowboys are keeping, at most, 5 receivers, possibly only 4, on the roster. Sam Hurd plays special teams very well, so he's probably a lock. Stanback is a project and will be ready for training camp. He's going to have to earn a spot over another DB or even a third TE, and primarely as a special team player.

Matt Jones does nothing for the Cowboys, even if he is more talented than Hurd and Stanback. He doesn't play special teams and unless he beats out Miles Austin for a spot, he wouldn't be getting the ball much at all.

Jason Witten: ( 1 ) option
Roy Williams: ( 1a ) option
Marion Barber/Patrick Crayton/Felix Jones/Miles Austin: ( 2 and 3 ) option
Martellous Bennett/Tashard Choice: ( 4th and 5th ) option

Those are the Cowboys receivers for 2009 and where the ball is going to be going the most. In order to fit in Matt Jones, you'd have to pick at least two players out of that list above and either reduce their catches drastically or cut them out completely out of the passing game. And more so this year when they're supposedly going to put more emphasis on the running game.

Which two, on that list, would you sacrifice in order to fit in Matt Jones ?

Good post. I am still on the fence but can't help but see the upside of adding him to the roster if he is indeed evaluated as no longer being a headcase.

In response to your post, I still would believe that there are other players, most likely one of the rookies, who could easily fill Hurd's ST duties. So I would easily sacrifice Hurd, Stanback, and the other rookie wrs unless they amaze to the point where drool becomes apparent.

I would rather see Matt Jones battle it out with Hurd, Stanback, and the other possible wrs then to totally cast the idea out as a non-option. Remember, we are talking about WRs that haven't proven anything on the field in regards to Hurd, Stanback, and the other rookie wrs.

If JJones could sign him to a similar deal as Pacman where they can cut him at anytime, then I don't see it being a big gamble at all. And since you mentioned it, I could easily see the Boys get into 3 or 4 wrs sets with MJones, RWilliams, and Austin/Crayton. More options... yes please.

Either way, JJones will do what he wants to do, but I do believe he will at least look into the option. The question is would he be able to get him before the Jets, Chicago, or other wr strapped teams get to him first? I don't think so...

I sure hope the team isn't thinking like you are.

Keeping only 4 receivers?

With this bunch?

I sure wouldn't.

Two of the candidates are hurt already and they haven't even started working in pads yet!

And both Austin and Roy Williams also have history of getting injured.

Jones had 65 catches in Jacksonville last season in about 12 games.

Nobody the Cowboys have at receiver came close to that - nobody.

How someone who was that productive 'does nothing for the Cowboys' is beyond me.

I think you have to bring this guy in, keep it big with Matt Jones, Roy Williams, Miles Austin, Witten and Bennett.

That group is a combination of size and speed, and if for anything, your Running game should thrive with these big monsters moving DBs and Safeties out the way.

As long as it is a low budget signing and this guy is not a head case.

I would think that he would take any sort of deal he could get at this point with whatever safeguards a team needed to put into the contract.

And nobody knows better than he does that his next mistake would be his last.

I think you'd get a young, focused player who was just starting to become a legitimate NFL receiver - at a substantially discounted rate.
