Mavs/Heat Finals thread

Everyone is picking the Heat to win. Im surprised considering Dallas has already beat better teams to get there.

Oh well.

Mavs bench will help us prevail.

The only way we can lose this series is if Stern puts the call in like he did in 06.
I do think the Lakers are better than the Heat. I think Bynum and gasol would destroy them and Kobe would offset either Lebron or wade.
Somehow that Laker matchup just fell right for the Mavs.

Funny, that is exactly the term my buddies and I have always used about Stern and the goofy/crooked NBA refereeing that's gone on for years.

In fact, we usually just shorten it to "the phone"... As in, that team will win unless the phone steps in.

All that said... Danny White (IIRC) was correct when he said that Mavs fans too often sound like perpetual whiners thanks to head cheerleader Mark Cuban, who has given his victim mentality to an entire fanbase.

Because it's not like the Mavs never get any favorable calls themselves.

I got the Heat winning in 6.

I like the Mavs but I think the Heat took the tougher path. Shut DOWN the league MVP.

The Cuban of 2006 is not really like the Cuban of 2011. The refs (espcially certain very obvious ones) hated them for exposing them back then. But Cuban has not received a major fine in 5 years now.
Getting married and having kids sobers people up I guess. It certainly adds perspective.

I also think the refs are much more consitent now that the league has added various ways to grade them into the mix.

Accountability can change behavior.

76ers<Blazers
Celtics<Lakers
Bulls>Thunder

I see it differently.

Mavs in 6.
Heat will win game 1 though and start the panic in the Metroplex.

i actually think the thunder are just as good as the bulls, maybe better. if the thunder played in the east, they would have won 60

bottom line is any team coming out of the west is gonna have a much harder time than their eastern conference couterpart, whom for the most part gets a first round bye

I thought the Thunder would win the NBA Title going into the playoffs this year.

Well they'll have to shut down a former MVP who is far and away better than the guy they just shut down.

The bulls did not play well at all this entire postseason. If Indiana knew how to close games, there would have been two 1 seeds losing this year.

Yes. And it is not even remotely close....no disrespect to DRose intended.

Plus this former MVP has a much better supporting cast on offense, so there is a severe price to pay for double and triple teaming.

That said, this series should be very close.

dirk is better than rose, but its asinine to say he is FAR AND AWAY better, or NOT EVEN CLOSE! come on, we are talking about derrick rose, not jrue holliday.

Yes, that was an exaggeration. :D
I love Derrick Rose's game and he is a superstar. He's is one of my favorite players.

However, I do think at this stage in their careers, Dirk is a good bit better.

definitely, dirk is not getting any better than he has been this year, he is at his absolute peak, i think 2 more years and you will start to see his decline, but he will be like ray allen in his decline, very slowly and gradual, not sudden.

as for rose, the sky is the limit, but the kid could be a senior in college, he has a long way to go

Fans of every team whine about the officials. I do ocassionally when there is a particularly bad call, but overall while I may get upset by a call, I recognize the other team gets screwed on calls too. I think a lot of fans fail to recognize this because they feel so strongly on the ones that go against them, and are matter of fact about the ones that go against the opponent. It's much easier to cling to the memory of the ones that cause emotion than it is to the ones that cause indifference.

Im not a fan of either team, but I think this will be a really nice matchup.

Does Dirk get guarded by Bosh or Haslem? If Bosh covers Dirk, Marion will kill Haslem. If Haslem covers Dirk, then Dirk will kill Haslem but Marion and Bosh will even out.

If they put Lebron on him, then that sets up for a great matchup.

There is no way Bibby/Chalmers are quick enough to cover JJ Barea when he enters the game.

I'm taking Mavs in 6.

And I am starting to HATE the NBA, the amount of weak foul calls on both sides is getting crazy. You barely touch a player and they get to shoot 2 free throws. If your wrist is barely tapped, you shouldnt get to shoot. Just my thoughts.

ah, but will the Mavs win 2 games?

The only way this series doesnt go at least 6 is if the league just doesnt care that people know they are actively trying to help the Heat win.

That's the way I feel as well. But I was trying to make a point that the Mavs took a more difficult route to the finals than the Heat did, so I gave the guy the benefit of the doubt, even though I wanted to put an = sign
