Mazi's strength and push look fine.. stay with me here and this is the big point... He has to work on his technique.. I know its a shocker that a rookie needs to know more than "See ball get ball" when he comes into the NFL but amazingly enough the diference between NCAA blocking schemes and NFL's is huge. How many NCAA OG/C combo's do you think are around that have the talent to reach block Mazi? Kid's gonna be fine now he is learning how to read the tells of whats comming at him in the NFL.
I don’t know if Taco and Mazi are a bigger indicator of lack of strength and conditioning at scUM or just the half-azz effort players they recruit for their DL. Pretty telling either way.

You're not even looking for signs or tendencies or any type of characteristics that gives you hope?
In preseason? No. It would be nice, but I won't look for it in a DT. A lot can change over a season.

My goodness, fans spend over a decade begging for the front office to invest a 1st rounder on a DT and what happens when they do, threads like this before his 1st game. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
It’s because he looks like an 8th grader out there.

Mazi has in my opinion looked awful in both preseason games. For all the touting his size, strength, and so on just dont see it here. He is pushed around willy nilly on the line and dont believe this is befitting a first round draft pick. I am predicting a bust of Taco proportions here. Just one of the worst pics in Cowboys history. And now with the possibility of Overshown being gone for the season a disastrous 2023 draft. We cannot get to the next level with misses like these and that has been the history in Dallas.
1. Mazi has not played as poorly as many claim. Let's put away the bust dust for now and let a rookie develop into one of the more time consuming positions to develop in.

2. Overshown injury does not equate to a miss. It's an injury, one we don't have full knowledge of extent yet. All signs were he was going to be a major contribution to the D.

Omg dude. Turn on your tv. And watch him in the first few series. Blown off and pushed around. He was touted as the strongest guy on the planet and they keep saying this, but Im not seeing this translate to holding his position or going forward with any penetration. Not seeing it on any plays.
If one could show you video evidence of him holding his position for even one play, would you be open to at least considering you could be wrong?

To small, gets pushed around in two preseason games, out of position, gets turned, etc.,etc. Oh, not talking about Mazi Smith, those were the comments about Aaron Donald after 3 preseason games.

Think I'll take the wait and see attitude on Mazi once the season starts.

Its game 2 of PS, why are you getting so worked up?
LOL. Worked up?

I said he's looked so-so and it's a bit disappointing that a first round pick looks like he will need more development time than I think most hoped. As I said, teams really look for their first round picks to make an immediate impact. Not sure we are going to get that, at least early, from Mazi.

I didn't realize dispassionate analysis was the same as "worked up". Who knew?

This is what happens when you don't have a real GM running the club. Our GM took two Michigan players with our top two draft picks and they both stink!
Our gm has built one of the best rosters in the league. That is why they are a top 3 team in the NFC.

Mazi‘s stregnth has been touted as legendary. Who as the Michigan State offensive tackle on the cover of sports illustrated that looked like an Adonis and turned into one of the biggest busts in nfl history.

Seattle has a good offensive line and Mazi did play against their starters. He will be fine in the starting defense.
Before we label him a bust let’s see what he does with a couple real games under his belt. You make a good point that Mazi played with their 1st string players and our 2nd string. I’m excited to see what happens when the offensive line has to worry about Parsons, DLaw, LVE, etc. Also with our whole starting defense. Let’s see what the offense will do with our starting secondary in there as well. I’m not basing anything off of last night. Seattle only had to worry about Sam Williams and Mazi.

The only thing I’m concerned about is injuries to the 3 players, especially Overshown, and our bad tackling. The bad tackling is a much bigger concern that Mazi.

I’m so glad I don’t have to go anywhere for comedy. I get enough of it right here!! Two preseason games in and we have a Zone expert predicting a bust of epical proportions. At a position where it takes considerable time and growth to even be able to review or examine how well a guy is doing and not doing.

He has one damn job, keep guys off the LBs. How would even the best analyst be able to determine if he’s doing a good job or not if our starting LBs haven’t seen one play during the first two preseason games.

Keep your day job buddy.

The point is regardless, we have nothing for 2023 draft meaning no path to SB.

Donald was a superstar in the making. I was destroyed when he went ahead of us in the draft. All the hallmarks before day one in nfl.
