“still haven’t been any negotiations on a new deal with Dallas, per sources”

So they never even started negotiating is how I’m reading that? That would make denying the Bears interview far worse. And just further prove Jerry is all about theatrics and media headlines. Just make a decision, no need to have this “looming deadline.” They’ve had months to decide if they wanted McCarthy back or not.

Also terrifies me that Jerry probably already knows who the next coach is going to be if they aren’t in a rush to get interviews started
Ill give you two guesses. Kellen Moore or Ron Rivera

seems like we either get McCarthy back with his tail between his legs with B-/C+ assistants or we get a retread who hasn't been a head coach in 5 plus years with a weak assistant coach staff. Fun, fun.

If McCarthy had any pride, he would tell Jerry to shove it and go somewhere else. This team isn't going to win anything anyway. Any thought otherwise should have been eliminated to see how Jerry is handling this whole process.

Zimmer or Rivera are the likely options
Kellen Moore probably the best case being realistic
Dark horse candidate Al Harris, Bones, Jason Witten (?) lol

Jerry was having a power trip.
EVERYTHING he does is about his power/slash ego. Things like signing Dak to multiple deals, bringing back Zeke after releasing him the year before, signing Zeke and Jaylon Smith BEFORE signing a QB long term, waiting to resign CeeDee...EVERYTHING he does is about trying prove he can succeed WITHOUT Jimmy. And now, approaching 30 seasons without even getting to NFCCG, here we stand...

Rivera would be a smash-the-TV hire. He's still riding the coattails of Cam Newton and Luke Kuechly from literally 10 freaking years ago.

The Bears and Saints can have him.

I'm befuddled as to why McCarthy keeps getting head coaching offers after like 8 straight disappointing seasons. The wheels came off by the end of his tenure in Green Bay, and he brought nothing to the table over 5 years in Dallas. There have been a lot better coaches fired in under half that time for a lot less cause.
Probably because hes 62 games over 500 for his career. Thats the same as Vince Lombardi and 20 games better than Bill Parcells. There are only like 15 coaches in the leagues history to have a winning percentage over .600 and coach 15+ years.

If the next coach is Mike Zimmer I may have to turn in my fan card

Not that I dislike Zimmer, the D got better as the season went on but let’s be real here

You need to keep up with the evolution of the game and we’re clearly not
I'm with you but he is the most likely candidate. Jerry is comfortable with him and that's all that matters.

In all of this I kind of hope McCarthy does leave Dallas just because the interviews where he can speak freely are gonna be must watch events.
