Belichick's contract at North Carolina includes a $10 million buyout if he leaves prior to June 1, 2025, though it's not entirely clear whether it would apply if he returns to the NFL in the coming weeks. Either way, it's a fraction of Belichick's salary by the end of his Patriots tenure, making it relatively easy to get out of, whether an NFL team or Belichick himself pays the buyout.
With few successful NFL head coaches currently available, at least one other team also has continued to check in on Belichick's status.
Spoiler alert....its not the Cowboys.

With Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy eligible to talk to other teams after midnight Tuesday, there still haven’t been any negotiations on a new deal with Dallas, per sources. It’s now looking like McCarthy will indeed become a coaching free agent, with Chicago and New Orleans both expected to be interested in speaking with him.

12am i'm going to throw a party in here!!!!! Jerry please don't make a move at the last minute lol

The Bears and Saints can have him.

I'm befuddled as to why McCarthy keeps getting head coaching offers after like 8 straight disappointing seasons. The wheels came off by the end of his tenure in Green Bay, and he brought nothing to the table over 5 years in Dallas. There have been a lot better coaches fired in under half that time for a lot less cause.

Time to start the process of lining up interviews.

Ben Johnson may have too steep and asking price. But, I'd still bring him in to pick his brain about his offensive philosophy, roster building thoughts, etc.

I'd use all the interviews for informative purposes.
his thoughts don't align with ours, he's going to be a hard pass

Yeah it's almost like the league is telling you that your perception of him is off.

LOL and who here believes they have done work on other options?

They likely have not.

This will be like FA. They’ll get around to hiring a coach when it fits in their busy social calendar.

“still haven’t been any negotiations on a new deal with Dallas, per sources”

So they never even started negotiating is how I’m reading that? That would make denying the Bears interview far worse. And just further prove Jerry is all about theatrics and media headlines. Just make a decision, no need to have this “looming deadline.” They’ve had months to decide if they wanted McCarthy back or not.

Also terrifies me that Jerry probably already knows who the next coach is going to be if they aren’t in a rush to get interviews started
Good points!

I’m starting to think Coach Prime might actually be in play here.

Only splash candidate left after Vrabel and Belichek.

Or Zimmer, oh God no. Just delete my account if that happens, I’m done with this team if that happens.

Same reason Dak is the highest paid QB in the league. There's like 15 competent head coaches and QBs. So half the teams are desperate.

The New coach for the Dallas cowboys will be Mike Zimmer
The same Mike Zimmer who just a few weeks ago talked about how difficult it was to get through 2024 and wasnt sure if he wanted to come back as a coordinator? That isnt the guy you want to bring on as HC.....so yeah you're probably right, I bet Jerry has the paperwork all typed up already.
