McClay fans

Have you seen another competent CB other than Bland this year . I wouldn’t mind a CB high in this draft . Not the 5th round bargain variety .
Have you seen us stop the run? Yeah, another CB, just what we need.

McClay does not draft players. McClay does not sign players. McClay does did not even attend the combine until the last few years. McClay gets the draft organized, sets the board and dumbo 1, Jerry Dumbo GM Jones, and dumbo 2 Stephen Chief Operating Dumbo Jones select the players. Jerry selects the players on suggestions. He has the final say and he is not open to football people making football decisions. This has been the last 30 years. Do you really think McClay lets Lawrence, and Parsons go? Do you think McClay who actually played, coached, scouted and managed hire DC that do not fit the personnel and run the scheme that fit the players?

No more "act like your talking to me Jimmy" when the war room camera is on. Now its just let me play GM without doing the real work of a football GM. Results speak for themselves.

This is the Arlington Jonesboys. Until Dallas Cowboy fans get this through their Cowboy baseball caps, you are going to be doing the same thing looking for different results.

You will not see the Jonesboys use 2 no.1 picks and come away with Randy White and Hollywood Henderson or Demarcus Ware and Marcus Spears. That was Tex, Gil, and Wooten, and Parcells and Jeff Ireland. It is Jerry Dumbo GM Jones and the Arlington Jonesboys so you are going to get another Felix Jones and Mike Jenkins draft.
No joke? What's your inside source?

Bo Nix could have passed for TD’s opposite Bland all afternoon . Yes a corner is sorely needed I’m not buying into medical Revel until he proves he can hold up . No one opposite Bland is a starter in the NFL

Yes, but until we can stop the run, who we have at corner just doesn't matter. Unfortunately, Jerry thinks as you do. Fill the roster w/ WRs and CBs and TEs. We go corner/TE/RB in the next draft, then we'll know it's the same ol' crapp and that we're not going anywhere.

No idea what that means.
We have a corner that comes up and lets the runner run right by him without even touching him. Ole is what they say in the bull ring to cheer the bullfighter as the bull runs by without making contact.

Exhibit 1 - McClay's War Room gush on Mazi and his pass rush potential.
Exhibit 2 - making 'man mountain' lose 20+LBs, only to find the problem was his slow reactions (and desire), not his size.
Exhibit 3 - when discussing our pick, the only other name that McClay brought up was Bergeron.....who ended up going 12 places lower (and another Guard taken before him).

There is no universe that Jerry is able to make those decisions in isolation.
I know I reference him a lot — because he's everywhere — but Broaddus thinks the Mazi pick was made because Dan Quinn was clamoring for him, and I can't disagree.
Broaddus also frequently mentions that Jerry relies upon his 'advisors', chief of which is McClay who's been in the organisation for 23 years.

The truer reflection is that Jerry DOESNT CARE ABOUT DEFENSE and he assigns responsibilities....probably to DC and McClay (who previously scouted defensive backs).

McClay doesn't make the picks. He just doesn't.
From what has been reported in the past selections are established for each round of targeted primary players and also alternates. We forget that all targeted selections aren't exclusively ours for drafting. Other teams may covet some of the same players as well, make better selections and have better drafting position. I think McClay runs hot or cold season after season selecting scouted players in the draft. It may not just him but also the quality of the scouting department that reports to him.

I see incessant claims of how good McClay is at drafting. Starting this offseason, we will see exactly how good he is. We desperately need D help, and we need it yesterday. So, what's going to happen? More CB's and WR's and TE's?

If he's as good as some claim, then it's time to show it.
KSK For 99% of your posts, I 1000% agree with you. I have the utmost respect for you, Big Dog, Bob Haze, even Coogi..... (LOL) and a few others. Your posts are pretty well spot on. But I have to respectfully disagree with you on this one. I will never back down from this: At the end of the day, it's Jerry and son who is building this team. I'll use the following players for example purposes only because it's fictitious, but it gets my point across.... It's like saying McClay goes up to Jerry and says "Jerry, we need to draft Patrick Mahomes." but come draft day, Jerry decides he wants to wait til the 7th round and draft Will Grier because it's much CHEAPER for a 7th round draft pick to get re-signed then a # 1 draft pick.

Is that McClay's fault Will Grier got drafted instead of Patrick Mahomes? McClay did his job trying to get the best he can for what we need. At the end of the day, Jerry is who signs the contracts. Jerry is who signs the paychecks (if someone else does this, let me know. I'm all ears). I've seen/heard interviews of McClay explaining the hows and whats of what he does when it comes to looking at prospects. In my mind, there's no doubt McClay knows what he's going. But again, at the end of the day it's up to Jerry to listen to McClay's suggestions.

So you're giving a subjective pass to McClay, isnt he chief advisor. This goes deeper than just Jerry, he's surrounded himself with weak willed sycophants.

What big dog said

I've worked at places before where I am supposed to be the hiring manager, but HR and Exevcs ultimately make the final decision, even against your digestion. Cowboys run the same way
Jeez, was typing this on an elevator without reviewing. Typos lol.

Execs and suggestion and ran.

That is most likely what happens!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Jerry as the GM is responsible no matter what. Good or bad. If he's not, then he's not the GM.

OK, but the point remains. Who we have at corner is irrelevant until we fix the front 7.
