Tevin Coleman, Darren McFadden , Ryan Williams Lance Dunbar.

Sounds like a salty running back corp to me.

I'm pulling for him. I'm pulling for every guy wearing that star on his head to do well. Hopefully, he'll be a pleasant surprise. But realistically I'm not expecting much.

He will have a year similar or better than Murray.(I'm talking about Murray on the eagles) If he is our lead back. Murray is average

that is not really accurate.

Latavius Murray does have a higher yards per attempt average, but it isn't as great as you think. when you only have 82 attempts on the year, and have a 90 yard touchdown run, your yards per attempt is jacked up,. Remove that one run, and he is down from 5.2 to 4.0.

Also, Murray's attempts all came at the end of the year. the entire offense improved somewhat , including McFadden's average.

In the last 4 games - Murray ran 68 times for 258 yards. 3.79 per attempt.

McFadden ran 19 times for 85 yards. 4.47 per attempt.

Wow, sure is easy to outperform when you have limited chances and get to run fresh on a worn down defense.

Since Murray was our cowbell, wouldn't he be the one wearing down the defense? Plus towards the end of the season defenses knew we were going to force the run, that would also explain why Murray would get less yards. Still managed 125 against the Pack though.

Murray could not of done what he did without a passing game keeping the defense honest. The raiders and a rookie qb lacked that ability, but we aren't talking about our Murray, we are talking about the raiders Murray

Didn't you know that Joseph Randle is a better back than DeMarco Murray because he outperformed him last year, averaging 2 yards more per carry?

I won't defend McFadden averaging below 4 yards per carry the past three seasons, but I thought we'd learn our lesson from Troy Hambrick in comparing the success of an RB who gets few carries to one who carries the load.

With McFadden, Ryan Williams and Dunbar/Randle I would like to see the draft pick be more of a power guy.

Power types:
Gurley
Ajayi
Johnson
Yeldon
Cobb
Davis

Gordon is not a power guy, but the primary difference between him and Coleman is that Gordon is better at running though contact.

I didn't like this signing particularly either, but where is all the animosity coming from? He's a dude who works hard and just hasn't been good enough. A willing blocker and a lifelong Cowboys fan.

Is it really that hard to just get behind a guy like this and hope he surprises while realizing he probably won't?

If there's any team a RB like Darren can be successful at, it's Dallas.

Dude is going from one of the most horribly run organizations to a 12 win team, that just won a playoff game, has a monster O-line, top tier QB, elite WR, and an overall powerhouse offense.

If that can't inject some life into his career, he might as well call it quits.

Hopefully he can be sort of like this year's offensive version of what R McClain was last year.

Why don't you like the signing? Seems like a pretty nice deal for the Cowboys and a good situation for the player.

I'm more "meh" on it really. Good contract, he's a good pass protector-which I love. I don't think his production issues were entirely on that OL. I just don't have really high expectations for him as a runner. But I'd love it if he surprises.

I still want a good young RB, too though. Ajayi or Johnson, maybe.

LOL, who has ever succeeded in Oakland?. Please tell me. That place is the black hole of careers. Randy Moss couldnt even succeed there.

You would have to go back over a decade to Rich Gannon during his MVP season in 02 to find anyone but the expectations weren't very high with him when he arrived in Oakland. The players that had expectations in recent years haven't panned out although the Raiders may have found something in Carr. The players that haven't succeeded in Oakland haven't succeeded anywhere else other than Moss and DeAngelo Hall.

Read this:

Yes, but the worry with McFadden is he didn't look good as other journeyman type RBs on the Raiders over a fairly long duration:
  • In 2014 Latavius Murray (5.2 ypc) averaged nearly 2 yards more per carry than McFadden (3.4 ypc)
  • In 2013 Rashard Jennings rushed for twice as many yards and 1.2 yards more per carry (4.5 vs 3.3)
  • In 2012 Marcel Reese (4.6 ypc) and Mike Goodson (6.3 ypc) collectively average 2 yards more per carry than McFadden (3.3 ypc)

Gotcha.

Yeah, I'm not exactly psyched about it but I'd rather add him than trust Randle and the contract is all upside for us. Personally, I wasn't too excited about the idea of going into the draft thinking we HAVE to have a RB in the first 3 rounds.

Just watched the interview with Nick Eatman. Seems very humbled and confident. Give the kid a chance.

Get him the ball in the open field on 3rd down and, unlike Murray, he will take it the distance.

Get Ray Rice in here for 1st and 2nd downs...better yet take a RB early in the Draft. FIRST TWO ROUNDS.
