I'm curious, what did you think McQueary was going to be testifying to?

The amount of snow fall in the Himalayas?

They did go to the Campus Police.

No, they met with the administrator who oversaw campus police. That is a big big difference.

I think they should have asked the kid what happened to get a better understanding of what took place and then gone to the local police, not the campus police who are nothing more than glorified security guards.

This wasn't some bike or books getting stolen, it is a very serious event, beyond campus police and should have gotten local police dept involved.

On most large campuses, campus police are actual officers. The campus police work hand in hand with the local police and likely provide backup several times a day. This isn't some dinky community college, it is one of the largest schools in the nation. They have a serious police force on campus.

In the grand jury testimony McQueary essentially said the same thing he said today during his testimony. It was between both legal proceedings that McQueary modified his accounts about what happened. He heard all of the negative reactions about him and changed his story to being more proactive in the situation. Now that he was back under oath he returns to the story of having a more passive reaction to what he witnessed. He is a joke.

..but yet, he's still gettin that paid vacation time right now.

How there isn't an outrage over this is beyond me. That and the fact that Curley is still on salary as well and his legal fees are being covered by the university. Disgusting.

The best way to describe Shultz' position would be to compare it to the police commisioner of a metropolitan police force and he was at the meetings in an official capacity as such.

For those unfamiliar, the Penn State police force is larger and has jursidiction over a larger area and similar population compared to the State College borough police.

Forgive me, because i didn't pay attention to the proceedings today, but how specifically was it said that Paterno followed up on this incident?

They went to the head of the Campus police. It was on him at that point. Which is why he has been indicted. As well he should be.

I'll have to reread the transcript for a specific answer but McQueary testified Paterno asked him about it months later.

This really boggles my mind, how such a respected man can take child molestation so lightly that his enjoyment of weekend overode a child's well being, crazy.

Paterno ‘knew inappropriate action was taken by Jerry Sandusky with a youngster’ in 2002

What did Joe Paterno know, and when did he know it?

Today, we have some answers to the crucial question from the coach's mouth after Paterno's testimony from earlier this year — in which the now-former Penn State icon told a grand jury that he had been informed about an incident of "a sexual nature" between ex-defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky and a young boy in 2002 — was read for the first time in open court Friday.

In the testimony, Paterno said he "knew inappropriate action was taken by Jerry Sandusky with a youngster" after a meeting with then-graduate assistant Mike McQueary, who allegedly saw Sandusky sexually abusing a boy in a locker room shower the previous night, but did not inform police and waited at least a day to inform his boss, athletic director Tim Curley, because he "didn't want to interfere with their weekends."

So basically, he went and told his superior about it, sat down with his boss and the head of campus police to get the details from McQueary, was told it would be taken care of by his boss and the chief of police, and he followed up with McQueary about it later on. Gotcha.

Actually, Paterno said he contacted his boss either Saturday or Monday. At 84 I'm sure he doesn't remember what exact day he told anyone something that happened nearly a decade ago.

doesn't matter if they are sworn or not; for something like this you go to regular police. NO way do you put it in anyones hands that might have a reason to try and hide it; which is just what happened.

Unfortunately, it would be be a jurisdictional issue at that point. You could report it to another police department, but they would refer you back to the campus police as long as they were an actual law enforcement agency.

Campus police or not, they're police officers first and upholding the law should have been their number 1 priority.

You dont have a child bro. Its completly over your head and again your post is completly irrelevant because of that fact.

;)

My boy is the same age as these victims so yeah...it probably bothers me more than it would say, you.

You lose the right to complain about reading the details of child rape when you click on a thread about the trial of a man accused of dozens of counts of child rape. This falls under the "duh" category. If it bothers you that much, you simply need not concern yourself with such issues.

Earlier, McQueary said he stopped Standusky from assulting the boy but now he is saying all he did was he made sure Standusky seen him to stop what he was doing. McQueary is a D-Bag and Standusky needs to be put away until he dies in the prison.

If McQueary, Paterno, and others weren't quite sure what took place, why didn't Paterno, or Shultz, or Curley interviewd the boy and Standusky? If they really cared about that boy's well being, then they should have questioned him (with his parents present) to have a better understanding of what took place.

And this is why the whole thing stinks. It really seems to me like this was glossed over at the time and now you are seeing several men trying to line up their stories and it isnt working. I'm not sure we'll ever know for sure who is simply bending the truth and who is just outright lying, but I gurantee you a lot of both is occuring.

so Paterno said "I'm sorry you had to see that". Not bull****, no way in hell, that can't be, I've known the guy for 30 years you must be mistaken, are you sure. Then he tells his boss "we got a problem", yeah the problem is someone else found out. Seems to me Paterno already knew what Sandusky was doing with boys.

You have some of the fact wrong. Paterno didn't say anything like that. Further, Paterno ceased being close friends with him back in 1997 when Sandusky started running around lobbying for the head coachng position, which in all likelihood is what led Paterno to tell him he wouldn't be the head coach there. One thing Paterno won't tolerate is disloyalty.

And as the police has already said, Paterno did the right thing when he went to his boss and campus police.

That said, he should have gone to the local police as well but he didn't, though there may be some evidence that the local authorities indeed were involved in some capacity.

guess you should actually find out what was said huh? Nice of Paterno not wanting to interfere with someone's weekend by reporting the rape of a child. Further, Paterno's a scumbag.

Paterno, McQueary said, “slumped back in his chair.” “He said: ‘Well, I’m sorry you had to see that. It’s terrible. I need to think and tell some people about what you saw, and I’ll let you know what we’ll do next.’ ”

Paterno said he took what he thought was the appropriate action when he told Curley, but not the police, that McQueary had seen Sandusky doing something of a “sexual nature.”

“I figured Tim would handle it appropriately,” Paterno told the grand jury. He added: “I didn’t push Mike…because he was very upset. I knew Mike was upset, and I knew some kind of inappropriate action was being taken by Jerry Sandusky with a youngster.”

"I didn't want to interfere with their weekends, (so) either Saturday or Monday, I talked to my boss, Tim Curley, by phone, saying, 'Hey we got a problem' and I explained the problem to him," Paterno said.

My bad. I misread your post. I thought you said that Paterno said about him knowing him for 30 years. I apologize.

That's not accurate. He was Vice President of Business and Finance. The force was part of what he oversaw in that role but unlike a commissioner, he had no training in law enforcement.
