If all these teams were lined up ready to give Melton a Hatcher type deal don't you think it would've happened by now?

I think this boards GM's are panicking way more over Melton than the real life GM's are.

If Melton receives a Hatcher type deal he'll be as overplayed as hatcher was.

As usual, Jerry will overpay. Only way to get good players when you can't draft for ****.

The fact that Melton has had a couple of other visits first gives me hope he won't over pay.

If he was determined to sign the player at all cost I highly doubt Melton would have had other visits before coming to Dallas.

What's with the hype this former fourth-rounder with ACL injury and off-field issues is getting? Aren't there better, cheaper options?

What's it going to be then, eh?

Better? No.

Cheaper. Yes.

This is the stage in free agency about 30 minutes before someone flickers the light in a bar to signify closing time.

Time to buy the semi-attractive ones without hairlips a drink.

Source: Henry Melton visiting Cowboys on Monday

The Cowboys have a scheduled visit with free agent defensive tackle Henry Melton on Monday, according to a source.

Melton visited Seattle late last week and could have more planned if he doesn't reach a deal with the Cowboys.

Melton played in just three games with the Chicago Bears last season before suffering a torn ACL. While it's expected Melton will recover in time for training camp, he must prove to NFL teams, looking to sign him, health won't become a problem during the 2014 season.

The Cowboys are looking for a replacement for defensive tackle Jason Hatcher, who signed a four-year contract with the Washington Commanders, late last week. Melton is a favorite of Cowboys' defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli, who coached him to a Pro Bowl berth while they were in Chicago in 2012.

Melton is the biggest free agent to visit Valley Ranch since the period started last Tuesday.

Melton is big money Easley would be 2nd round low money. i'm looking at the cap

Losing a second rounder in terms of production and availability can be just as damaging, if not more so, than signing a middle tier free agent like Melton would be.

Man, are they really sweating this guy in Seattle. Most think that he can make the Seattle d-line better than it was last year. From what I have seen in forums, the majority don't care about his coming legal entanglements. He would be under less pressure in Seattle I think, as he tries to raise his stock, but in Dallas, he will be front and center, assuming he can get on the field early. The knee is still something of a concern in that regard, since he will be barely one year removed from the injury he suffered last September.

My opinion has evolved on him and if it were not for the connection to Marinelli and his 2012 Pro-Bowl, I would be a little less inclined to see it as a great move. That said, without him, the Cowboys "might" be forced to do something silly on draft day in order to land Donald. Melton would definitely make draft day less stressful in the war room. He was coming into his own before the ACL, and judging by what looks like "carnivorous" convictions, appears pretty salty for a DT, and you definitely want that (to a point) at 3 Tech. Hard to believe that this guy was a former running back.

Not looking at the cap. 2nd rounders don't make anything like melton is trying to get

Hatcher had three visits before getting overpaid by Washington. That's how it's done. You go team to team looking for the highest deal. I don't want to over pay.

Problem might be, it seems the NFL treatment of a Dallas player with legal problems, vrs the other teams........once this guy is signed,... the Giants Ownership will again "lean on" the NFL offices and get a 4 game suspension laid on him..........

The only fans who underrate Melton are Cowboys fans, which is ironic given our needs.

Melton isn't a middle tier FA. He is the top DT this year. DT gets drafted high and paid well.

And we have overpaid for free agents before that turn out to be bust and have alot bigger cap hit when we have to release.

Well it is not really a done deal yet Super8. I would not mind the signing. The guy has obviously got talent, making a pro bowl just 5 years after switching to DT from running back at Texas. However, given the fact that he was a 4th rounder, Donald becomes much more intriguing as a prospect, having won everything there is to win while at Pittsburgh:

Donald, a senior defensive tackle from Penn Hills, took home the Outland Trophy and Bednarik Award at ESPN's "College Football Awards" show Thursday night, giving him four major individual defensive trophies over the past week.

He previously had won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy (best defensive player) and Lombardi Award (best lineman or linebacker) earlier in the week.

Donald's haul of four major individual trophies this week are the most any Pitt player has won in one season. Running back Tony Dorsett and defensive end Hugh Green won three apiece in 1976 and 1980, respectively.

Seems like he has a stellar career ahead of him by the looks of it...
