BS, sorry not how it works, No player, none ever restructure deals and lose money. Players will restructure deals to free up money but they are paid to do so and do not lose a single dime in doing it. Cooper deal was not torn up, Cleveland got it and yes will play less year 1 but those remaining years are more expensive. You can go on about Cooper, I think he is great would love to keep him but Dallas was over the cap that played a big role in this and fact is you can't keep everyone especially when you are over or pressed up against it. No way Dallas was keeping Cooper and Gallup 1 was going to be let go. As I said you think we should have kept Cooper and let Gallup go, I have no argument but no way we were keeping both.

It’s not BS, it’s exactly how it works and every single team in the NFL does it.

What you’ve outlined here is a restructure only (which they do NOT need the player’s permission to do because it doesn’t not affect the player in any way. Even though it’s stated as converting salary into a signing bonus, they still receiving it as they would salary, not in a lump sum. It’s a filing difference only between the team and the NFL). This is not extensions work, never have.

Amari is not agreeing to take less money, he’s getting MORE money. He agrees to rip up his final 2 years at 40m$ (20m$ AAV with no guarantees left), and in exchange he receives a new deal at 5 years, 23-25m$ AAV. The first two years will pay more cash than the final 2 years of the last deal, and most of it is signing bonus so it prorates over the course of the deal, heavily reducing his 2023 and 2024 cap hits. All that’ll be on the cap is his minimum salary, prorated SB cap hit, and whatever’s lingering from the 2022 restructure. It’ll also be backloaded with nonguaranteed money, exactly what Dallas gave him that allowed them to move off so easily.

It’s literally what every team does when they’re extending a player who’s not on a rookie deal. It’s silly not to do it; we particularly see it in QBs. And it’ll be exactly what Dallas will do with Dak in the next 1-2 years to drop his crazy cap hits coming up.

100% Dallas could have held on to Amari for many years without him coming close to a 20m$ cap hit, they simply didn’t want to.

BS Cooper deal could have been restructured but it would cost Dallas in other years, sorry they do not rip up the contract and start anew and if they did the going rate for top WR is 30 mill. What you think cooper would have his contract redone and get paid less? LOL Bottom line yes Dallas could have kept him and we lose Gallup because wee were already over the cap and had to get below by the start of the new season in March.. I like Cooper but ffact is he has vanished in games and funny thing was when Dallas signed him people here where whining about how we over paid and how stupid Jerry was for paying so much. Fact is our fans are whiners keep him or let him go the end results are fans whining. I get way national media thinks so low of Cowboy fans it is well deserved

Okay I called up the game from video on demand.. While I'm mostly in agreement that the defender beat Coop to the ball I think that only happened because Coop was a bit er.. disinterested going after the ball. The ball is kicked from the 35. Cooper and the hands team lined up on the 50. The defender first touched at the Jets 46 yard line which means he went 11 yards while Cooper went 4. If Cooper goes aggressively after the ball the defender has zero chance at it. So he Coop might have done a little business decisioning in how he went after that ball. As such I'm going to come down on the side of those who think he could have given a little better effort on that. Still not going to blame him for the loss.. but I can see how that narrative got legs.

The problem was the ball was kicked directly to Cooper and it wasn’t a slow dribbler it was coming fast. With the new onside kick rule the kicking team can’t get a running start so the receiving team just has to wait for the ball. The Jets defender saw the ball and was running full speed toward it, slightly beating Cooper to the ball. Cooper had his eye on the football so he didn’t see the defender running up. It was a great play by the defender to knock the ball away.

Amari’s last 3 100 yd games came with Cooper Rush and Jacoby Brissett at QB.

Amari was Micah’s boy. Seeing him ball out on another team is hurting Micah. Dumb and dumber better tighten up. Bc if this kid wakes up one day and realizes the clown show franchise he's a part of he won’t hesitate to leave and take half the fanbase with him.

AC was a washed up bum, JAG, I read it here so it must be true

I'm not blaming Cooper for the loss at all, but IDK, watching that onside kick, it looked like Cooper stopped and waited for the ball, rather than running to grab it before the Jets' guy got to it.

It wasn’t a slow dribbler, the ball was coming fast. Had Cooper ran up to try and fall on it the ball could have deflected off of him. The receiving team has an advantage because the kicking team can’t get a running start under the new rule. Had Cooper saw the defender running full speed towards the football he might have tried to run up and beat him to it but he had to focus on the football and didn’t see the defender running up. The Jets defender looked like he was running the 40, he was at full speed and slightly beat Cooper to the football. It was a great play by the Jets defender.

Hes not getting paid less, why do you keep saying that? Every team rips up non-rookie deals and start new ones when doing extensions, why do you keep saying they don’t? It’s how it works for the money to line up properly. It allows them to drop cap numbers by making the first few years covered in signing bonuses. Clearly you are not grasping how nfl extension work.

Amari Cooper, at the time you traded him to Cleveland, had 3 years and 60m$ left on his deal, 20m$ a year.

Cleveland restructured his 2022 year, giving him only a 1.12m$ salary this year, and a 3.77m$ dead cap hit each of the next 5 years (3.77x5 +1.12 = about 20m$). So right now his cap hit is 5m$ (3.77 + 1.22). Follow so far?

Next year his cap hit WOULD be 23.77m$ (20m$ nonguaranteed salary + 3.77m$ dead cap from restructure.) 2024 would be the same on his final year of the Dallas deal. Hypothetically, Cleveland says we’ll rip that up and give you a contract at AJ Brown’s AAV (4 top receivers have signed after Tyreek and none got close to that AAV, Amari knows he he’ll be closer to them that Tyreek or Davante, and Brown was the highest AAV of that bunch). That is 25m$ AAV. Give him a signing bonus + salary Over the next 2 years that exceeds the 40m$ left on the Dallas deal:

2023: 45m$ signing bonus, 2.5m$ salary
2024: 2.5m$ salary
2025: 25m$ salary
2026: 25m$ salary
2027: 25m$ salary

Total: 5 years, 125m$

The 45m$ signing bonus + 2 2.5m$ salaries means he’s getting paid 10m$ MORE over the next two years than his current deal.

45m$ signing bonus prorates to 9m$ a year. That means:

2022: 5m$ cap hit
2023: 9m$ + 2.5m$ + 3.77m$ cap hit (15.5m, saved 8m off current 2023 hit). 2.5m can additionally be restructured to save 2m off this year.
2024: 9m$ + 2.5m$ + 3.77m$ cap hit (15.5m, saved 8m off current 2024 cap hit) 2.5m$ can additionally be restructured to save 2m off this year.

Now we restructure 2025’s full guaranteed 25m$, which will turn into 5m$ a year over the next 5 years:

2025: 5m$ + 3.77m$ = 8.77m total cap hit. After This year we can extend him again or cut him, freeing up the final 50m$ of non-guaranteed money left on his deal.

Additionally, we can give him a smaller signing bonus and larger first & second year salaries, and immediately restructure the deal after signing it (which is what Dallas did with Dak, his first year salary was restructured before he played a snap).

None of that is BS, he gets paid MORE and it saves Cleveland’s cap a large amount every single year from his 2021 Dallas cap hit of 22m$. You don’t have to get close to that for 4+ years.

Dallas could have absolutely afforded him by extending him, they didn’t want to. Despite what Jerry says, it wasn’t just about the money.

It was a good play, but Cooper could have done better than he did, IMO. It looked like either it was a business decision or he was hoping the Jets player wouldn't get it and it would bounce to him.

I totally disagree with you about it being a business decision. I don’t believe he ever saw the Jets player running up as fast as he was to get the football. The ball was coming very fast toward Amari and he had to focus on securing it but the defender got to the ball slightly before the ball reached him. That’s how I saw it.

You do know that Cooper was on the receiving team not the kicking team right? If it were a pass that got intercepted we would have been killing him for waiting for the ball and not fighting for it. Again.. I don't blame Cooper for the loss.. but the receiving team can go get the ball before it goes 10 yards. He could have gone after the ball aggressively and ended the game. The only reason the coverage guy was able to make a play was because he waited..

I know what side of the ball Cooper was on and I’m not going to spend all day arguing this. It was practically a line drive onside kick toward him. The only mistake you could argue he made was that he slightly hesitated but this wasn’t a slow dribbler. Again the defender made a great play. He had a great game that day but naturally you have fans here looking for something to attack him.

The opposite, our offense was garbage before Cooper got here.
Cooper had his best season in Dallas, his best 2 seasons in Dallas and his best 3 seasons in Dallas. Dak threw him open.

I'm not attacking him, and neither is Ronnie. Neither of us blames the loss on Cooper, we just both think he could have made a better attempt at securing the kick. I'm not even saying I'd blame him if it was a business decision. As you pointed out, the Jets player was coming hard.

Another thing to notice on the kick is that the ball was actually going toward number 20 for the Browns but he went up to block. He actually had the best chance to recover it had he went for the recovery instead of making a block but I’m sure his job was to block.

Coop was a fan favorite and has top 5 wide receiver talent. You don't let a guy like that go for no reason and we're the second team to do it. That says a lot.

An attitude like his will permeate through an entire team and he had problems with Dak Prescott in the locker room according to several reports. We're going with wide receiver by committee and so far in game 2 it worked incredibly well. We did miss him game one but I'm not sure him playing would have made a difference. I don't think Randy Moss and Jerry Rice would have made a difference with how Dak showed up and played.

We didnt let Cooper go. They guy wanted out of here. He did everything he could do for it and we finally gave in.

You give way too much credit to our FO. And you still believe the farie tales they tell you so they can sell their product. No mate. No player with sportiv ambitions will come and play here. The times where players wanted to play for us because its an honour are long gone. Players come here to earn big money and maybe have some medial spotlight on them. Its a place for egocentrics. Not for athletes who want to achieve something in their sport.

Your "fellowship" is always a projection of your leader. Just look at DFlaw, Prescott, Jaylon Smith, Zeke ....

He looked elite when he ran 6 steps out of bounds on a route, dropped a key 4th down play and had another hit him off the hands.

Other than that, great game.

Dak Lover to the rescue . Your a clown, who posts dribble daily
