I hope that this is not true but something tells me that Irvin is not completely innocent in all this. Sure, we all know how it goes with these sexual assault calims but sometimes its not all smoke. If Irvin is innocent, why did a "friend" have to pay her off and she signed a no prosecution letter. ( to shut her up and not risk jail for doing wrong). If its extortion then why is Irvins lawyers even listening to offers of extortion. Big Ben admitted to having sex but wasnt willing to pay a red cent because he felt he was innocent. If Irvin is innocent he would not even be negotiating.
If Irvin is innocent then why is she doing it now?

Wow.. So much misinformation on this post that it's not even funny.

This another PERFECT example of how people " see " but do not " observe " and then make up their minds on THEIR own completely erroneous conclusions.

Let's begin:

If Irvin is innocent, why did a "friend" have to pay her off and she signed a no prosecution letter. ( to shut her up and not risk jail for doing wrong).

This is a convoluted statement made up from 2 COMPLETELY different part of the story:

a) In the suit, the woman said Irvin bought her alcohol to get her drunk, then lured her to his hotel room. That's where he and another man tried stuffing money into her clothes, the suit said.

a statement made by the alleged victim BEFORE the alledged rape happened.

and

b) It was reported to Seminole police on July 20, 2007, Seminole Tribe spokesman Gary Bitner said.

``They investigated it thoroughly,'' Bitner said. ``Although by that time there was no longer any forensic evidence or surveillance video.''

A day later, the woman signed a waiver of prosecution, which Bitner attributed to ``her desire to essentially put it behind her and not have it be splashed all over the newspapers.'' Bitner said the tribe turned over its findings to Broward prosecutors.

The Seminole Police investigated the case " thoroughly " and the accuser signed a waiver of prosecution to the Seminole Police because she claimed she didn't want the publicity.

NOWHERE does it say that an Irvin's friend was paying her off and implied that she signed a letter to the prosecution because of it.

Next:

If its extortion then why is Irvins lawyers even listening to offers of extortion. Big Ben admitted to having sex but wasnt willing to pay a red cent because he felt he was innocent. If Irvin is innocent he would not even be negotiating.

Wrong, wrong, WRONG... ANY good defense lawyer, including Big Ben's ( and he did ask ), HAS TO ask what the accuser is looking for ( in terms of payment ). Civil suits are settled by monetarily means ONLY. Anybody knows that not only celebrities, but major companies, settle civil law suits all the time disregarding the probability of the judgement ending up in their favor. Alot of the times is CHEAPER than going through a hearing. That doesn't necessarily mean they're responsible for what they're accused of.

Why is this thread here instead of the fan zone?

There are threads over there that were started with "articles," such as the Deon Anderson thread.

I originally posted it in the fan zone (I think!)

A mod must have moved it here.

ESPN is reporting that a woman has filed a rape case against Michael Irvin in civil court:

Irvin accused of rape in civil suit

ESPN.com news services

Michael Irvin has been accused of rape in a civil suit filed Thursday in Broward Circuit Court, the Miami Herald reported.

Irvin
The suit, filed by a woman identified as "Jane Doe," accused Irvin, the former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and Pro Football Hall of Fame member, of raping her at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Fla., in 2007, according to the report.
No criminal charges have been filed. The Broward State Attorney's Office has been investigating the case and a spokesman told the Herald he expects a conclusion next week.

Irvin, currently in South Florida for the Super Bowl, had hosted a talk show on ESPN Radio 103.3 in Dallas and works as a television analyst for the NFL Network.

"His contract was up and the show has not performed," ESPN said in a statement released Friday. "We had previously decided to cancel the show and determined this morning to make it effective today. The permanent replacement begins at 11 a.m. CT today -- Ben Rogers and Jeff "Skin" Wade ("Ben and Skin")."

Irvin's lawyer, Larry Friedman, called the rape accusations "totally untrue," according to the Herald. Friedman, asked by the paper to describe the woman's contact with Irvin, said: "Beyond, perhaps, meeting her, there was nothing."

According to the suit, the woman claims the attack happened late on July 4 or early on July 5, 2007. It claims a Irvin bought the woman alcohol and took her to his hotel room, where Irvin raped her and another man forced her to perform oral sex. The other man is unidentified because, according to the woman's lawyer, David Lister, she doesn't know who he is.

The suit claims Irvin's brother, Derrick Irvin, "assisted in covering the sexual assault and rape up," according to the lawsuit.

Seminole police were informed of the alleged incident on July 20, 2007, Seminole Tribe spokesman Gary Bitner told the Herald.

"They investigated it thoroughly," Bitner said. "Although by that time there was no longer any forensic evidence or surveillance video." The paper said the woman signed a "waiver of prosecution," in what Bitner descibed as "her desire to essentially put it behind her and not have it be splashed all over the newspapers."

Both attorneys said settlement talks had taken place, but broke down. Friedman told the Herald the woman first asked for $1 million, then $800,000. Lister told the Herald that Irvin's lawyers asked for a settlement figure.

"This complaint is tantamount to criminal extortion," Friedman told the Herald. "There is no merit to the complaint."

Lister said the woman had passed a polygraph test and told the Herald: "There were discussions back and forth between the parties. Nothing came of it."

Irvin has been in the headlines several times during his career with the Cowboys and in retirement.

Irvin pleaded no contest to a cocaine charge in 1996. The same year, he and Cowboys teammate Erik Williams were accused of assaulting a Dallas-area dancer. The allegation turned out to be false and the woman paid a fine and spent three months in jail.

Irvin was arrested on drug possession charges in August 2000. He and a woman were charged, but the case was dropped after the district attorney determined that a police officer conducted an improper search.

In 2005, Irvin was pulled over for speeding in Plano, Texas and, after a search, police said they found a marijuana pipe and plastic bags with marijuana residue. Irvin was arrested on an outstanding warrant for an unpaid speeding ticket in Irving, Texas, and also was charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. Two days later, Irvin stated on ESPN's "Sunday Night Countdown" that he had taken the pipe away from a longtime friend who was battling drug addiction and that he forgotten to throw it out and had left it in his car.

And in Jan. 2009, Irvin claimed he was the victim of a carjacking attempt, but that the two men who drove up alongside his car and flashed a gun drove away when they recognized who Irvin was. Dallas police suspended the investigation 17 days later, stating they couldn't proceed without more information and that Irvin had not cooperated with police.

He also competed on Dancing with The Stars in 2009. He was voted off the reality show as it trimmed to its final five contestants.

He was voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007 . He played 12 seasons in the NFL, all with the Cowboys, catching 750 passes for 11,904 yards and 65 touchdowns. He won three Super Bowls in his career and was selected to the Pro Bowl five times.

He played collegiately at the University of Miami.

Well I listened once to his radio show and that was one time too many but the timing seems odd that they'd can him today due to "bad ratings".

Not sure if that boat floats.

Michael Irvin already out at ESPN 103.3
Posted by Evan Silva on February 5, 2010 11:36 AM ET
Well, that didn't take long.

We became aware Thursday night that Michael Irvin is the defendant in a civil suit alleging sexual assault.

And he's already out at ESPN 103.3.

"The show was not performing and we had previously determined to end the show," says ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz. By using the term "previously," Krulewitz confirmed that ESPN is aware of the accusations against Irvin, and the alleged crime only served to expedite his firing.

Irvin has been replaced by "Ben and Skin."

Barry Horn of the Dallas Morning News reports that the NFL Network has not made a decision about Irvin's future.

what sucks is the woman will probably get money anyways as they'll most likely settle out of court

that's why she brought it to civil (that's how it usually goes)

More on Michael Irvin and ESPN 103.3

Barry Horn/Reporter E-mail News tips

Here's what I know:

For months I have been hearing rumors that the radio station was unhappy with Irvin's ratings. I was on an airplane headed off on a December vacation when a friend called to tell me that the firing was imminent and he would be replaced by Ben & Skin. When I landed I made some calls and no one would confirm it.

At the Cowboys-Eagles playoff game in January, I talked to several people from the radio station and they said Irvin's show was on life support and there were talks about dumping the show and perhaps finding another roles for Irvin at the station.

I called Irvin a few days later and asked him for comment about the rumors. He said he hadn't heard them and asked for time so he could talk to station officials. I also told him that the word was that Kevin Kiley would be let go.

I connected with Irvin again last Friday morning. He was already in Fort Lauderdale for the Super Bowl. He told me he had talked to station management and was told there were no plans to end the show. I then checked with Pete Dits, the station general manager, and he told me while he hoped for better ratings, there were no plans to end the show. I wrote about it for last Saturday's Hot Air.

After news broke last night about a civil lawsuit for an alleged Irvin rape in Fort Lauderdale back July, 2007, I started making calls about his media future.

I got a definitive answer about the radio show this morning from ESPN headquarters in Bristol. ESPN stressed it had made the decision. ESPN said it planned to make the move after the Super Bowl but decided to move up the schedule after news of lawsuit hit.

Irvin was a no-show this morning for a scheduled event wit the North Texas Super Bowl Committee. I have a call in to him and will call ESPN 103.3 in a couple of minutes.

P.S. I was up at ESPN 103.3 FM a couple of months ago and asked station manager Tom Lee about Irvin's contract status. He told me a new contract was a done deal. I also talked to Nate Newton, who is savvier about these things than he lets on, and he asked me one question: "What's wrong with our show?"

Ben & Skin? No way. I didn't really like Irvin's show, but I would listen at lunch sometimes just for the Cowboys talk and because I like Nate. But Ben and Skin is going from the frying pan to the fire. Those guys are terrible. "Wade sucks and who cares about the Cowboys anyway... Now, back to talking about the greatness of the 38-year old Jason Kidd."

just reading in the paper that a local diner here is being sued 6.7 mil for alleged sexual harrassment

sounds kind of fishy, as it's the 8th reported case against them, and 2nd against the same guy

Another thing, apparently mere allegations are enough to get people removed from powerful positions. Here, let me try.

Reality raped me.

When Irvin was done, the other man forced her to perform oral sex.

Next time bite down and come away with physical evidence.
