Yes he’s the best and usually underrated on the all time NFL receiver list where I think he’s top 3.

He earned his nickname by always coming up big in big games. He’s a clutch as a receiver gets.

Yeah, as good as Bullet was, Irvin was just better than anyone the Cowboys have ever had.

Disregarding mercs and short timers:

Irvin
Drew
Frank Clarke
Tony Hill
Bob Hayes

If you're counting short timers and mercs, Lance Alworth and TO are in there. Alworth might even top the list.
I’m glad to see Hill make a list. He was my top guy as a kid.

Whats your thoughts?

Irvin played with Aikman in their prime. Aikman’s accuracy allowed Irvin to use his physical strengths. Slants, square ins and timing routes, etc. Dez was a better athlete. Dez is the team’s all-time leading TD receiver without a HOF QB. I would have liked to have seen Dez play with Aikman. Bob Hayes was at the end of his career when Staubach took over. Pearson and Staubach were special. Mr. Clutch and Captain Comeback Three great 88’s!!!

1 Michael Irvin
2 Bob Hayes *
3 Dez Bryant
4 Drew Pearson
5 Terrell Owens
6 Tony Hill
7 CeeDee Lamb
8 Miles Austin
9 Amari Cooper
10 Cole Beasley

I usually prefer to select players that I've actually seen play but there is no question that " Bullet" Bob Hayes
a legendary Olympic gold medalist sprinter and record breaker - evolutionized the NFL for life
in how they simply had to design and change defenses in order to have a chance to defend him.
Flat out could not run with Hayes, and he translated Olympic speed into football speed.

The NFL team defenses has to design zone-coverage vs Hayes - I'd be interested in what team/coach was the first to try " Zone " vs Hayes.

From the clips I was actually able to see, Bullet wasn't a straight liner.
He had legit receiver skills and he was also a prolific punt returner as well.

Dez won't be in the HoF.

Dez only had 4 more TDs than Bob Hayes and Dez played in the modern pass-happ NFL era.

Aikman would have told Jimmy to dump Dez before before the end of their 1st training camp together.
- Aikman would never have tolerated the terrible and unpredicable route running by Dez.
- Romo's improve style and ability to buy time allowed Dez to function.

Is this a serious question?
  • Years from retirement until Hall of Fame induction:
    • Michael Irvin: 8
    • Drew Pearson: 38
    • Bob Hayes: 34
How many years did it take before Pearson and Hayes were even finally inducted
into our very own Cowboys Ring of Honor ?

Irvin not only was an extraordinary Hall of fame WR with his production and domination against Hall of Fame
coverage CBs in the NFL (ala vs Darrell Green, Rod Woodson, Aneas Williams) but he was also an
extraordinarily unique team leader.

It has been noted from several teammates how inspirational and motivational Irvin was.

When they seem to hit a " lull " as Darryl Moose described it .. Irvin was the one that set the tempo up again.
He set the tone in practice that led to the playing field.

They put him in the top 3 and you're thinking he's underrated? Sorry, not making any sense of that.

And that's not even mentioning his performance against Deion. 12 catches in the 94 champ game.

TO was a beast in Dallas, and he had to split targets with a prime Witten, which I disagreed with. In 2007, Witten had as many targets as TO, which never should've been the case.
Not making sense of that. Using the whole field is what makes everyone better. Throwing to Witten drew in coverage which helped TO get open deep.

And then you had to take into account that TO didn't have the best hands, often dropping keep 3rd/4th down passes.

Why do you think you can just fling it deep every play?
