Michael Irvin best Cowboys receiver ever?

Dez won't be in the HoF.

Dez only had 4 more TDs than Bob Hayes and Dez played in the modern pass-happ NFL era.

Aikman would have told Jimmy to dump Dez before before the end of their 1st training camp together.
- Aikman would never have tolerated the terrible and unpredicable route running by Dez.
- Romo's improve style and ability to buy time allowed Dez to function.

Dez is grossly overrated on these boards.

Honestly, if you offered me Dez or Alvin Harper it would be a tough choice. Why? Harper was great at what he did, a jumpball specialist and deep threat. You knew what you were getting w/ Alvin.

Irvin played with Aikman in their prime. Aikman’s accuracy allowed Irvin to use his physical strengths. Slants, square ins and timing routes,etc. Dez was a better athlete. Dez is the team’s all-time leading TD receiver without a HOF QB. I would have liked to have seen Dez play with Aikman. Bob Hayes was at the end of his career when Staubach took over. Pearson and Staubach were special. Mr. Clutch and Captain Comeback Three great 88’s!!!

This is true. I think Aikman would have gotten Williams to terrorize Dez.

Irvin was really good......you knew he was going to make a play each game and he was one tough dude going across the middle.......very physical in an era where you had to be. He was a winner, as long as Michael was on the field you knew the Cowboys had a chance. He is in the conversation I think.

Irvin the best of the Cowboys WRs, I think. But an honorable mention to Herschel Walker, who still holds most receptions/Yds in a season (1986) by a Cowboy RB (76 Rec., 836 yds). Older dudes like me remember how defenses had problems covering him. a screen pass nightmare.

Besides just jolting up a familiar name for the sake of being the back of a jersey, I have no idea
why one would bring up WR Lance Alworth (who only played one mere season after being traded to Cowboys)
as a Cowboys great.

Not even on the map as a Cowboys player.

Alworth clearly did all his HOF production in his San Diego Chargers career and I believe he retired right after
that one lone Cowboys season.

It gets hard to compare players from different era's in football. The defense wasn't as handcuffed with receivers back then QBs could be clobbered after throwing a pass, all of the players weren't as big, fast or strong. Players had off-season jobs and weren't working out all year long.

t would be fun to see Pearson / Bullet play in this era.

pre 1978 it was a completely different game

Now Pearson did play some years in the newer era; but he was the only one. Bullett was strictly old time. Irvin completely new though not as much as it is now.
So hard to compare.
The edge to Irvin is that he made catches winning championships more than either bullet or pearson. BUT once again totally different times. And most of the TDs were scored by Emmitt.
