To be fair, this fact isn't limited to Americans. Most cultures are fascinated with side-shows.

You do realize Michael Jackson did more then just entertain people? He is in the Guinness World Records for his support of 39 charities.

The guy literally gave many hours and countless millions to charities.

Heck, even President Ronald Reagan reconized his charitable efforts.

I gave credit earlier where credit was due. I gave him his props.

But I personally never received any "on the ground" benefit from the man except for entertainment. And, I'd venture to guess that that's the truth for over 99% of the people on the planet.

All I'm saying is that Micheal Jackson (supposedly) died yesterday, and today I got up and my world didn't change one scintilla. I hate to say it, but the day after Dallas lost to Philly last year, same deal. Outside of my entertainment value, it REALLY has no real-time impact on my life. My family, my mortgage, my health, my money, etc............It's something I watch on a 15" by 36" screen.

The Cowboys have a little more to do with my disposition and attitude, but you get the point.

To be honest, that goes both ways.

How so? You can make your defense as strong as your money is, the prosecution, well we are glad if they arent buried under their work.

Ok, we GIs are sick of it, we want real news, he's dead and we cared for five minutes and got back to important things.

Men I know are dying weekly, no media coverage, and they weren't alleged sex offenders, enough.

You say this almost like you had no earthly idea that this is how the media would react in this situation.

The coverage is incessant and most of it not terribly necessary. This is not the first time that this type of coverage has ever taken place.

It is what it is, to quote a phrase. Just hit the off button and go read a book.

I do agree with many here in that this whole thing is being overdone...

I actually like his music a great deal... but this coverage is over the top... and quite frankly, shameful.

Do we really need images of the chopper transporting him and images of him in a body bag?

Is this what it has come to? Dignity is out the door in this country... and proven every day by Congress... "OK... I admit I'm ****ing this chick, but it is on your dollar... let me pass a law to garner me more **** passes and the ability to pay someone for it"...

You just realized the farce that is the modern day tabloid media in this country?

They bring people up to the top, then manipulate, scold, tear down, ridicule, mock, etc. when they are up there, and if they make a few mistakes while on the way down, they laugh and make jokes, call you a pedophile because you like to play with children to vicariously live the childhood you never had through them, and then you die tragically and they do a full circle turn around and think it's one of the biggest tragedies of the century and put on a huge charade of a sideshow further desecrating a person's legacy with a false sense of mourning.

What a sick industry.

Wait until his funeral. Then is when you should be tired of the coverage. It's going to go off the hook.

"The biggest news story since 9/11".

You forget the emergence and the election of the Chosen One.

Just goes to show you where REAL American values lie. We're all infatuated and enthralled with side-shows. Things that go "bang-bang" and glitter and sparkle and move around a stage in a strange fashion. We pay the utmost attention to anything moving that has spotlights on it, or a camera's flash at warp speed as it walks upon a stage.

Worse yet, a side-show like Micheal Jackson can have an emotional effect on people..................I tell ya' the worlds coming to an end.

I've been to circus's and carnivals and Vegas shows and ball games and NASCAR Races. And, truth be told, after I left said event, it had ZERO impact on my life outside of a few hours of diversion. It's entertainment. Has no impact on my mental state, physical health, financials, etc...........

But this guy pass's away (if indeed he actually died), and peoples lives are literally changed forever! Meantime, No. Korea is honing in on Hawaii, Iran is doing their usual tap dance, our economy is in the crapper, folks losing jobs and homes at a record clip, socialism and communism is at the door............................BUT HEY: STOP THE PRESSES...................MICHEAL JACKSON HAD DIED!!!!!

 Friggin' best poster ever. I'm with you. In fact, I take it a step further. Good riddance; I say, for my own personal beliefs.

Wow. People continue to ***** about the news coverage.

He's a clue folks. If you get your "news" from the television then that is your #1 problem. You get lowest common denominator news and will NEVER get any depth of informaton on any topic. Read on of the remaining major newspapers, listen to public radio, or maybe get on a internet site dedicated to actual news.

The coverage isn't hard to avoid. But if that is all you get right now from your regular sources then this should cause you to think long and hard about the crap you accept as news the other 49 weeks of the year.

Somebody mentioned "wait 'till the funeral"................

Oh, I'm counting the minutes.

Somebody also mentioned "Lady Diana" and tied together her death and funeral as a precursor as to what's coming. THERE'S another one...........
At least Micheal Jackson had a talent that could be sold around town. This gal had ZERO.........

She did nothing. She was as ugly as hand-made soap. Married an equally ugly and good-for-nothing dufus. Therefore, they had very ugly kids. He brings nothing to the table except being born into a royal and again, ugly family.
This Diana broad had no looks, no body, no talent and did little besides whatever obligations she HAD to do to get by in some psuedo "royal family". On top of that, the family she married into had no use for her and wished she never existed to begin with. She was Britain's "Paris Hilton" times 10. She was famous for "being famous" and lucking into a marriage.

Then, she dies while cheating on her husband with some Arab dude, and you'd swear that somebody IMPORTANT, who actually DID something to change the world had passed away! The world stood still for weeks to watch the spectacle, and everyone sang her praises like she invented the cure for cancer or something. Mean time, he only thing she ever did was to plop two very ugly brats into the world.

You gotta' hand it to the Brits...................They're no slouch when it comes to making somebody out of nobody.

in fairness to diana she was seperated from charles at the time due to him cheating on her with camilla which is why the queen did not want to give her a state funeral. also the other thing i disagree with in your post is prince harry. if you look at pictures of him, charles and james hewit who diana was having an affair with then you can make your own mind up about who the father was.
JamesHewitt_200.jpg
princecharles_080502.jpg

anyway the comparison i was making between the two was that both were villified before there death then practically canonized immediatly after it.

You continue to go on like you are the end all be all of knowledge on any subject, when you just continue to show incredible ignorance every time you post.

Princess Diana, because of her position, was able to do incredible amounts of work for AIDS charities in the UK, Asia, Africa and even North America. She also worked with Leprosy charities and was a patron to other charities that worked with the homeless, elderly and drug addicts.

Around the time of her death, she was in the forefront of the International campaign to ban land mines, which went on to win the Nobel Prize in 1997.

Try looking past the tip of your own nose for the facts before going on your next diatribe. Idiot.
