Ed and Farrah were both sick for quite a while. Michael dying is huge news because it was so unexpected.

That...

And he is possibly one of the most famous people of all time and everyone in the world knew of him. If they didn't, they either lived under a rock or in a 3rd world country.

Ahhh so dying and being in the news is a popularity contest? Alritey than.

The amount of coverage given to a particular individual is going to be directly proportional to how famous they were.

This is not some new, different policy by the news media.

No kidding. Turn off the TV and avoid Internet news sites if it bothers you that much. How this is some sort of surprise or unwarranted, I have no idea.

It's not a surprise, but definitely unwarranted, and still disturbing. A VERY famous person died. They're not worth more than any other person that died, and certainly not more newsworthy than those that died in the rail crash the other day along with the dozens of others who were injured. That is something far more tragic and truly affects the lives of far more people but it hasn't received 1/20 the attention of this.

This kind of coverage just implies that famous people are not just more popular than the regular person, but that they are WORTH more than a normal person. And I don't mean monetary worth (though in the end that is what is most important to the "news" agencies).

I'd like to get SOME news about what's going on in the rest world, because like most people, Michael Jackson is not the center of my universe.

Doesn't matter how talented Michael Jackson was. He was most probably a child molester.

Doesn't matter how talented OJ was. He is certainly a murderer.

And out of Ed McMahon, who served his country, Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson, which one is the media all over? The one they love to love and love to hate and back to loving and probably hate.

Death does skyrocket your popularity some doesnt it. 48 hours ago most people would say nothing of Jackson, now he has fans all over, even the ones that hated him.

Interestingly enough both were acquitted by a juror of their peers.

Now that he is gone.

You almost certainly have to separate his life. It can be done in a few ways.

Breaks records in the 70-80's / 80's was MEGA BIG

Accusations run wild in the 90's-present

In the end. He was an amazing talent. A once in a lifetimer, a game changer if you will.

So like to say greatest of all time. No.
But he was the greatest of his time.

That personal stuff, if true. That was his personal sickness/demon. Whatever you wan to call it.

He said it best in Thriller video, "I'm different"

I expect that if we knew the truth about his actions they would fit the definition of child molestation. I have a hard time believing that there was any malice in those actions though. MJ seemed to be a man stuck in childhood. It seems very much like he never matured past childhood. He was friends with these kids. He was sexually exploring like many kids do. What is troubling is that parents would allow their kids around such an obviously mentally ill person.

He was sick. It is hard for me to place a ton of blame on someone like that.

Am I the only one disturbed by how much media coverage this has received? Fawcett got next to no coverage, McMahon got a slight blip, and Jackson dies and it's like the biggest news story since 9/11. I've seen/heard about 4 hours of news since getting off work yesterday and not ONE SINGLE MINUTE has been about anything besides Michael. This should be about a 10 min. story with occassional updates. There are other things that are more newsworthy.

"The biggest news story since 9/11".

You forget the emergence and the election of the Chosen One.

Just goes to show you where REAL American values lie. We're all infatuated and enthralled with side-shows. Things that go "bang-bang" and glitter and sparkle and move around a stage in a strange fashion. We pay the utmost attention to anything moving that has spotlights on it, or a camera's flash at warp speed as it walks upon a stage.

Worse yet, a side-show like Micheal Jackson can have an emotional effect on people..................I tell ya' the worlds coming to an end.

I've been to circus's and carnivals and Vegas shows and ball games and NASCAR Races. And, truth be told, after I left said event, it had ZERO impact on my life outside of a few hours of diversion. It's entertainment. Has no impact on my mental state, physical health, financials, etc...........

But this guy pass's away (if indeed he actually died), and peoples lives are literally changed forever! Meantime, No. Korea is honing in on Hawaii, Iran is doing their usual tap dance, our economy is in the crapper, folks losing jobs and homes at a record clip, socialism and communism is at the door............................BUT HEY: STOP THE PRESSES...................MICHEAL JACKSON HAD DIED!!!!!

To be fair, this fact isn't limited to Americans. Most cultures are fascinated with side-shows.

You do realize Michael Jackson did more then just entertain people? He is in the Guinness World Records for his support of 39 charities.

The guy literally gave many hours and countless millions to charities.

Heck, even President Ronald Reagan reconized his charitable efforts.

Ok, we GIs are sick of it, we want real news, he's dead and we cared for five minutes and got back to important things.

Men I know are dying weekly, no media coverage, and they weren't alleged sex offenders, enough.
