We also had a $20m AAV QB on the roster. That is going to change.

those funds can easily be pushed into this year by restructuring contracts we would not have otherwise.

and the big caps hits from a FA would hit in 2018-2020 but we get an extra year out of it by acting now

You're right. He gets after the QB so he definitely doesn't fit in with what Dallas does.

Again, they were under the cap. So its not like they spent more money than anyone else. They just spent their money in other places that some teams did.

It didnt get them any playoff wins but it sure did impact their team.. They havent been to the playoffs since 2011 and i'd like to think that their offseason moves on defense was a big part of that. They ran into a hot A-rod just like we did.. their defense didnt play well during that game but they have been all year. Their defense is actually one of the best in the league now opposed to being one of the worst like in previous years. One of their problems is that once their defense got fixed.. all of a sudden their offense didnt play as well as they have been playing for the past couple of years. Who knows.. maybe their defense will get them playoff wins in the future.

Those offseason acquisitions helped them big time.

Everyone over pays for good players in FA, I prefer to build depth and trust McClay, the only exception I might make is Hankins or Poe..we have some talented guys in Irving, Lawrence, and Mayowa on the outside. I really think if we can stop the run and still get our running game working like it did this year, we will be tough to beat. And get more pressure from the outside.

i think lawrence was talent but injured and may be thus compromised going forward.

Washington. Man, wasn't that long ago they were pissing away cap space, got stiffed with a $36M penalty, and then had to start purging their roster.

It's strange that the Commanders aren't in "salary cap hell". Seems like no team is in cap hell nowadays. The freaking salary cap goes up 10-13 million every year.

I think you need to look at a $15M AAV contract and think of it as a $8-$10M AAV contract of 3 years ago.
that is what happens with free flowing $ from the cap.
no one has cap troubles.
