Get back to me on Atlanta and Cousins when they win 7 or 8 games . In the worst division this side of the NFCE

The Pittsburgh situation should be interesting. Once Russell Wilson melts down like a candle it won’t take long for Tomlin to go to Fields warming up in the bullpen .

So if you believe the Cowboys to already have a top 3 draft talent in Trey Lance, would you be fine with the idea of them forgoing drafting a QB for the next several seasons after Dak is gone? Even if they have a chance at a top 5 draft pick?
We don't have to worry about QB until next January. We have 8 months to find out if Lance can be our next Romo. Dak sure wasn't.

Biggest weakness on Trey: Slow processing speed.
Funny, that's not what his scouting report said:

Strengths:

* Film junkie with high football IQ and an NFL frame. * Makes calls to set his own protections. * Bouncy feet for accelerated pocket setups. * Play-fake aficionado from under center, causing defenders to consistently bite. * Passing scheme encourages full-field reads. * Processes progressions very quickly and can work to his fourth read when protected. * Able to mentally recalibrate his attack when play comes off schedule. * Taking care of the football is a priority for him. * Rarely takes bait against zone defenders and safeties looking to pounce. * Compact, twitchy release partially mitigates his windup. * Makes attempt to throw targets away from coverage. * Adequate anticipation on timing routes. * Makes quality touch throws into sideline buckets and over linebackers. * Knows his way around pocket and can make sudden escapes. * Above-average speed, athleticism and power when heâs on the move as a runner. * Able to move the chains in a variety of ways.

Weaknesses:

* Highly inexperienced with just 318 pass attempts under his belt. * Will be 20 years old at the time of the 2021 draft. * Gets a little lackadaisical with his feet in quick game. * Needs to trust his pocket. * Has a tendency to void pocket rather than sliding and surveilling. * Pressure pulls his attention from deliverable throws. * Needs to become more decisive and trust his eyes. * Leaves lower half behind, diminishing his drive velocity. * Occasionally leaves explosive plays on the field by not getting it out on time. * Leaves too many deep balls short, allowing defenders to challenge. * Can be overly cautious. * Needs to get his slide game up and minimize collisions as a runner.

That bolded part in the strengths is what Dak is oft criticized for.

However, the bolded part in the weaknesses counters the bolded part in strengths: if you don't pull the trigger fast enough even though you process quickly, then it hurts the latter.

Jones is focused on his stars. the people you mentioned, Micah, CD and Dak are top 10 in Jersey sales which directly translates to money for Jerry.
Jersey sales happen mostly during the pre-season and regualr season. not post season. post season success is almost irrelevant.
some would argue if we win superbowl and have post season success it would mean more for Jerry. Perhaps. but right now, the current strategy has made cowboys #1 highest valued franchise and he has 3 of the top 10 jersey sales.
I wonder how many of the Lance Lovers have bought a #15 jersey. Bet it ain't many..

I see nothing in Kirk Cousins for a fresh Atlanta coach to hitch his wagons to .
Cousins will probably be great for Atlanta.

The year before they got Bijon the run game was dicing people up. They ran well last year but Art Smith was pretty trash.

With a new coach, that run game and the pass catchers I think Cousins does fine. He had studs in Minny though so maybe that was as good as he gets.

It really just goes to show what a rare commodity a good qb is the league.

Not really. Since he will not be playing during the regular season.

"I want [49ers coaches'] eyeballs here," Martz said regarding Lance. "I've never seen anything about this kid that was encouraging at all. He really has to plant himself to make a good throw, he's not a quick decision guy."

Lance has been praised for his mobility, which was a large reason he was selected third overall in 2021 – but Martz said he "looked like a fullback stumbling around trying to run the ball."

"I've never liked him. I still don't like him," he said. "I'd like to know what he does so well. He's not a great passer, he doesn't have good skills, takes a long time to set himself to throw the football, misses easy throws."

Mike Martz is brutal and fairly creative with his feedback on Trey. The 3 YouTubers were fairly brutal about Mike. I don’t think you dismiss what Mike says like the 3 guys did. I also don’t think you completely dismiss Trey like Mike did.

Mike had a point, all he can do is go up. So how far he goes up is to be seen. I still like the trade and I still think it’s worth the 4th round pick. Because honestly if you can pick up a possible boom QB for a 4th you got to go for it as opposed to drafting some jag that maybe will play STs. I’d rather kick the tires with Trey than use that pick to get another Jabril Cox, Gallimore, Nashon Wright. I feel anyone on this board would agree that passing on Wright or Gallimore to get a player other teams viewed as a 1st rounder and a top 5 pick is worth it. Regardless of position.

I loved the trade the Niners made to get him as a Cowboys fan. I hated the trade Jethro made.

We traded a 4th for basically a 1 year pre-season evaluation, which is not very telling for a QB.

We basically would need to resign him and let him start next year to have a true evaluation.

Good post. I’m real curious what Trey can do with our offense. I wonder if Shanny had him thinking too much. We dumbed our offense down, then dumbed it down again, and then a third time dumbing it down. I wonder, and hope, this simple offense plays to Trey’s strengths.

We’ll see. I’m looking forward to preseason.

I like the trade because I feel it’s a good gamble for a 4th. I’d be pissed if we traded a 1st or a 2nd. I’d much rather gamble a 4th on a potential QB stud then let’s say a 2nd of the likes of Sam Williams or Kelvin Joseph or Schoonmaker.

I do agree that he needs a year to be evaluated so that’s why I’m wishing that if the plan is to blow up the core after this season and let Dak walk then I’d just assume cut or trade Dak (if he allows it) and use 2024 to evaluate Trey. If the plan on Dak’s side is to stay and the Cowboys want him to stay then I’m hoping we resign Trey to a 2-3 contract for backup money, Ala Cooper Rush type deal, and continue to develop him and use him in an emergency. And if Dak leads us to the promised land then maybe we can at least trade Trey for our 4th rounder back.
