For the past several years, we have enjoyed "Friendsgiving" with our closest friends rather than a strictly family affair.
There are several reasons for this: we don't live close to family and traveling at Thanksgiving is a special kind of hell. My brother always manages to p!$$ everyone off, including the pets. And, for some reason, we were elected as the "permanent" hosts for Thanksgiving.
So, a few neighbors and like-minded friends started the "Friendsgiving" tradition. Everyone likes everyone else (within the usual margin of error), everyone contributes, and, most importantly, we have a wonderful time.
I probably sound like a Thanksgiving Scrouge, but this is just so much nicer.
