Darlin', when I see someone at the gym who looks like they haven't spent much time in a gym yet, my only thought is, "Good for you, you care enough about yourself to try to be healthier!"

I've honestly never seen anyone be rude to anyone else at the gym, and we all have self conscious moments. I've gone up 2 pants sizes in the past 8 months, thanks to the back arthritis, and then the shoulder surgery, and I'm feeling pretty flabby these days.........but I know nobody's really thinking I don't belong in the gym.

If you want motivation, think about your grand kids, and how you're gonna wanna kick their butts when they're teenagers!

I know the "flabby" feeling. I only commented because I'm probably feeling a bit sorry for myself. I've been on the receiving end of some pretty harsh and unwarranted passing comments. Personally, like you said, I love to see someone get out there and make that effort. I know how hard it is to just find the want and will to do it. I let myself believe for a couple years (which I now know to be a depression from dealing with this health mess and my guy's passing hot on the heals of it all) that getting into shape wasn't necessary. Now I'm just mad at myself too for falling into that trap.

Moving on... maybe we can get Leon to start a boot camp at his new place... I hear running on the beach is awesome exercise.

Now that's a good idea!..........But would we be able to concentrate on exercise with all the sunbathers around?......Maybe we'd have to do it at night.

We'll have to get him before the elation wears off. If he adds it into the mortgage, he won't even notice it.

Good morning Pops and those at different levels of happiness.

Leon is elated about his pad until he gets my "stocking the bar list", I am an expensive drunk. Cheap whiskey makes me holla.

Runny is back in the gym with a bad wing going for the sympathy side of hot babes in motion. "Ahhhh, look at that man, working so hard when able bodied men, like my boyfriend, sit on their butt at home swilling beer. I find him interesting". We'll just leave that he does his swilling at Hooters out of this.

Colo thinks he has to go up the river to drink wine. I've been up the river most of my life and traded my paddle for wine and there's none left. Drink some right where you are.

And Gramma is allowing the eyes and comments of others to affect her when her own eyes see the beauty and truth of the person within, the really important one that she knows best. In this case, a true fighter that beat the monster and having seen that too up close and personal, the shape and strength of the mind is so important in that battle. And that battle leaves the body as the witness to the war. But she was the victor and not enough people win that war. Let those "passing comments" pass right on by and consider that most people's thoughts should be kept to themselves. It's only what you think that matters.

But I will tell you what I think. You've had your plate overloaded with your battle and the stress of what your daughter's been going through are major situations and just managing those is a lot to ask. You are a true warrior and that's what you should see in your reflection. I can see that.

Ya know, Gramma, that comment about "passing comments" reminds me of the greatest advice I have ever heard or seen but did not fully understand it until we fought that monster and I had two employees with BPD that had to change their med protocol. "Treat everyone with kindness for you do not know what battles they are fighting". And I live in an area now with more people fighting them than anywhere I have ever lived. It seems that everyday brings a "there by the Grace of God go I' thought.

There is a lady that lives in my neighborhood with quite possibly the worst looking body I have seen in some time. I watch her walking every day, without fail, from the comfort of my patio.

Thanks for the little chuck on the chin, and I too have often had that phrase run through my head (There, but for the grace of God, go I.) As bad as I think I have had it sometimes (Gramma Jan, pity party of 1...) I try to remind myself that somebody out there is experiencing worse than myself and I try to be mindful of the simple blessings.

Yep, I do not like using that to pick myself up but that's just human nature.

The best laid plans of mice and men... Update on the Napa getaway trip:. All flights cancelled into and out of Denver. Interstates 25 and 70 closed - basically it is your garden variety blizzard. Visibility is non-existent.

We are stuck at the airport and can't leave by plane or car. Had a great steak at Elways in the airport, though.

And, Coach, I am drinking wine right where I am. :)

Heck of a way to spend your birthday (technically, it's tomorrow but I have a suspicion we may still be here.)

    Morning Pops and fellow Zoners.

I've always wondered what goes on at an airport during the middle of the night. After spending the night in the Denver International Airport, I can now cross that item of my bucket list.

I clocked multiple 10,000 steps wondering around the airport and, I must say, the terminal looks like the set from the mother of all zombie movies - bodies (not dead, mind you) are strategically positioned in every nook and cranny.

I don't know if any of you live, or have lived, in an area subject to hurricanes, but you have probably seen the News showing endless lines of people "survival buying" water, food, blankets, etc.

That's what it was like at the airport last night. A whispered comment like, "McDonald's is closing in 30 minutes" and herds of people would suddenly start moving to Mickey D's as if they were being chased by, well, zombies.

Thank goodness my wife packs all kinds of snacks and other food goodies when we travel.

Interesting side story regarding my wife: I recently attended my high school reunion. A group of us were reminiscing about what we did in PE or study hall or some other class when one in the group turned to my wife and asked, "Did you have classes like that in the USSR (my wife is Russian, you see)".

Without missing a beat, she responded, "We field assembled Kolashnikovs during our free periods." I generally try to sleep with one eye open :)

Evening Pops and friends. Having a weird week of sleeplessness and pretty much walking around like a zombie during the day and most of the night. Best not to post when I'm in this condition as there's no telling what I'm liable to type. Everybody be extra nice to Leon since he's our new vacation destination.

Morning, Pops and pen pals. We're still enjoying ourselves here and, thanks to SPF 50, We haven't even got sunburned. It looks like I'm not going to have time to play golf while I'm here because we are enjoying ourselves to much doing other things and getting lost. Their road signs here are very hard to see. We went to Taino Beach yesterday and ate lunch in an open air restaurant right on the beach. It is the most beautiful beach I've ever seen including in Hawaii. Y'all take care now.

Color me green with envy! Don't stop giving us the details of island life though. It's motivating. :D
