just last week.....Dez came within a fingernail of make a game winning catch vs the Giants, a catch that wouldve made him a hero and possibly saved our season, this week he is all of the sudden a complete disaster? im not buying it.

This comes down to coaching first and foremost, and secondly being on the same page with the QB, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Dez has all the physical tools to be a great WR.

He also didn't run his properly that resulted in an INT. There is no question that he has the physical make-up of an NFL WR but he doesn't have the mental make-up.

To be fair though, this is the single hardest transition for NFL WRs to make from college. It's one of the toughest positions to excel at straight from college.

Bryant didn't run the full route tree at OK ST. He only relied on his athleticism to beat his opponents. Go back and watch his game tape from college, it was a spread offense with no pro concepts whatsoever. He got away with that in college but you can't do that in the pro's.

The only story I see is that he injured his hip, didn't practice for much of the week, and was in the game as a decoy that the Falcons bit on. Had ATL been leaving him one on one and keying on Austin, Dez likely would have been sitting

He was open several times and Romo didn't even look his way.

i think Dez is easily the best scapegoat this offensive staff can throw the blame on. when things arent going well, everyone looks to blame someone, and Dez is too easy of a target.

It's not that he's the scape goat but that he is an actual problem.

Happy Birthday Dez, you disaster!
Love, the Dallas Cowboys executive staff and coaches, who are so sick of your bs that we used a media tactic to somehow get your head out of the sand about your tardiness, your reluctance to apply yourself completely in learning the playbook, your missed curfews, and your poor play.

I, for one don't understand how anyone defends this man-child.
He seems to be a jerk.

My impression watching the game last night is that, for the most part, Romo avoided Dez like the plague.

Maybe he wasn't happy with Dez after long bomb or whatever. Not sure.

I also thought Romo avoided Dez. I believe Dez played his best ball when Kitna was qb.

Without "rewinding" the games, seems like he only runs three or four plays. When he does something different, he messes up and is out of position and seemingly undermines Romo by not being in the right place at the right time on the field.

He's totally unreliable, I can't imagine how Aikman would have dealt with him? He might have been cut long ago under the Jimmy regime.

Doubt that, because he would have been coached up better under Jimmy's regime. Therefore would have been a better player.

Anyone else think the supposed executive is referring to something other than what has been on the field?

Or at least considering more than what happens in the game?

I don't think his stats are the "disaster".

I thought they've already dumbed down his route tree to just 4 or 5 routes.

What do you want them to do -- reduce it to one?

This the NFL -- not Highschool football.

Have you seen anything in Dez's game that warrants that type of special treatment?

Its about getting the most out of him while he's here.

Three pages of posts and no follow-up to the OP containing any real meat to Mort's teaser.

I can see Dez being considered a disappointment, but generally Mort's teaser lacked a whole lot of substance and leaves a lot to be desired as far as information.

As for Romo not looking his way... anyone think maybe the Cowboys were using him as a decoy similar to how they used Witten in the first game? Dez has a hip injury and probably one that he shouldn't have played on. Just an alternative theory to the Romo doesn't trust Dez anymore. After last week, he may have lost some trust, but not to the point of completely ignoring him.

There were several times he was open and Romo just didn't even look to his side of the field.

I don't think he's lost complete trust in him but Romo sure isn't relying on him in critical situations.

Wow. Way for practically everyone in this thread to verify the notion of confirmation bias off of some media head spewing some negative information without a single shred of evidence. Some Dallas executive would just give Mortenson this information to blab on national TV. Yeah, ok.

There is no substance to this rumor Mort and Sheffter have to put the Cowboys in every trade and free agent rumor. They know what team sales papers.

not as many as I'd like, but he does. And he's still young

It's hard to properly gauge anyone in this disaster of an offense/team.

I'd be a disaster too if I was going through what Dez is going through outside of football. Everyone assumes its easy to play through that and I guess we should expect him too but i'm not sure how realistic it is for us to expect that from Dez. He's human afterall.

All that money didn't make it any better?
