It's past time to draft his replacement, but Jerry won't do it. He doesn't want to put any pressure on Romo.

A few years ago, I might have agreed with you. I think Romo is (or at least should) be beyond that.

Yes, but we still have to make the right choice. I'm not real confident in our FO when it comes to drafting quarterbacks because quite frankly we don't have much experience at it.

I hear that, but with how cheap 1st round QBs are these days, it totally changes the mentality in that you can draft multiple ones and aren't so tied down to that investment anymore. I remember the Carter era and beyond as well (shudder) and still want Romo to start if healthy. Just not Aikman part 2 please!

Well they've liked Foles and Dalton so at least they know what a decent QB looks like.

if one of the first round QBs fall to us at our spot, it would be foolish not to take him. There is no guarantee that Romo will make it through the year injury free, and this kid may end up playing as a rookie.

I am not really into the draft thing this early, but I did take a look at a couple of sites, and there are not a lot of top tiered DE and DT rated as sure fire, can't miss first round picks. You can get virtually the same talent in the second round and later in this draft. You can also sign mid range veterans for rotational purposes. I have been on the all defensive line draft band wagon, but in reality we are rebuilding, and this team has no hopes of anything more than 8-8. We got the OL pretty much set up, the skill positions are good. But now we sprung a leak at QB to go along with the DL and the perpetually overlooked safety position.

IMO, if we can get a QB, some DL help in the draft and FA as well as an NFL caliber safety, let them play and come together for a year, we should be able to make a run in 2015. Much of it is dependent on our FO and clueless coach.

I think I would wait until 2015 for a QB. With Tony's back, Ware and Witten's age and having a lameduck coach who is also horrible at his job, I believe one or two bad breaks next season could see the bottom fall out of this franchise and we could end up getting a high pick in the draft.

That might be the only way we not only take a QB high or have a chance of getting a good one.

8-8 every year will only give the idea that we just need this or that, even if it was done with say Orton at QB.

We simply do not understand, value or appreciate the position. We have one of the worst setups for development of that position in the NFL with Wade Wilson as the QB coach. Our system is QB-centric and the passing game is far too integral to allow for anything less than a polished product taking snaps.

These facts alone almost makes me want to agree with not taking a QB, but we have to anticipate that eventually this staff will be gone as will Romo.

Brees, Manning and Brady are all older than Romo and I'm pretty sure you will not see them drafting a QB this year...

it just seem so strange to me that anyone would mention Romo in the same breath as Brees/Manning/Brady.
I think that for every playoff game Romo has QBd and won, each of those August gentlemens half 20 playoffs wins. For every Super Win that Romo does not half, each of those August gentlemens half like 3-4 lombardini trophies.

I look forward to the comparison of Pee-Wee Herman to Einstein and Barry Church to Darren Woodson. . .

Anytime you have a 33-year-old (soon to be 34) and his name is Tony Romo, DRAFT a young and talented QB poste-haste!

Below are quarterbacks who have been drafted leaguewide during the Jerry Jones era. In short, a franchise must perform its best player evaluation when it comes to the quarterback position. There have been far more misses have hits regardless of where or when a quarterback has been selected.

Personally, I have wanted this franchise to devote a pick regularly to the position on a 2-4 year rotational basis. A steady influx of potential talent could have cultivated a possible gem or two--during the Troy Aikman and Tony Romo eras and inbetween.

Of course, that draft philosophy is not shared by Jerry Jones. What is more worrisome for me is that the front office lacks a reliable method of grading high draft potential at the position. Because, for every possible high round Joe Flacco or Ben Roethlisberger, there is a possible mid-round Tom Brady or serviceable Matt Hasselbeck to be gained.

Does Jerry Jones, Jason Garrett and Cowboys scouts have the skills necessary to properly grade college quarterbacks, REGARDLESS OF ROUND, who are not already duds before getting Jerry's call when they are picked? Ex-players like Stephen McGee or Quincy Carter does not inspire much confidence that they do. Here's hoping.

Wasn't Garrett all set to draft the other ginger…Andy Dalton???

Just my 2 cents but Dallas should be drafting a QB every year until one pans out. You would think Jerry would learn after all this time (sigh)

Drafting a quarterback a year seems excessive. Rosters experience measurable turnover every season and the draft is an excellent source for replenishment.

But draft selections are limited and highly valuable. Throwing picks at the position every season does seemingly increase the odds at landing a solid quarterback, but at what overall cost to the rest of your roster?

I think that for every playoff game Romo has QBd and won, each of those August gentlemens half 20 playoffs wins. For every Super Win that Romo does not half, each of those August gentlemens half like 3-4 lombardini trophies.

I look forward to the comparison of Pee-Wee Herman to Einstein and Barry Church to Darren Woodson. . .

Anytime you have a 33-year-old (soon to be 34) and his name is Tony Romo, DRAFT a young and talented QB poste-haste!

We keep kicking the can of Spam down the road.
One day we'll find a gunslinging Romo thowing off his foot into double coverage while hurting from his hyenna disk.
Then all heck break loose and we go after someone from FA.
By that time the braintrust at Valley Ranch will be scratching its collective head: "Ya think we should draft a QB???"

Another fine day at Valley Ranch.

No, it was meant to demonstrate you missed the point of exactly what Super_Kazuya posted. Unless you're ultra sensitive, it shouldn't hurt one bit.

So . . . you are like Soupy Sayles' press agent? Does he, like, rarely speak to the rest of us or do he just go through you. If so, gift him my best wishes for a happy news year.

And yes I am ultra sensitive so be kind and rewind and speak only my good deeds.

It would sell out every exhibition game, that is for sure. And the idea of "Johnny Football" playing for "America's Team" would be an unbelievable hype machine. It is almost frightening to imagine.
.

that sounds right up Jerry's ally.

I'd imagine he doesn't speak to anyone anymore.

Maybe they should still go with the Dline and Oline in this draft. You get another OG in here (Leary with his degen knee condition and who knows if Bern will do well again). You stabilize that some more and you can get a decent QB to run the system even if it is a boring game manager style QB. You get the Dline to work out and keep the opposing offense from scoring as much and then you finally convince the HC and OC that running the ball after the half is not a sin.

You can win.

EVEN if you want a gun slinger type QB to follow Romo, it is better off you stabilize the line with mostly younger guys to grow with him...and hopefully a D that can help bail him out as he is learning the pro game.

Just something to consider.

No way in hades do I want Johnny Football. Taking Johnny Football just ensures that Jerry is thinking about money and fans more than winning IMO.
