Maybe the worst of all... Galloway and Mosley last year said when Sean Payton was in limbo without a new contract Jerry reached out to him about this job. Sean had interest but when Jerry asked him what he thought he could get from the Saints, he said it was about seven million... Jerry basically laughed and said, "Well then you'd better get you some of that." As we all know, Jerry underrates head coaches and doesn't like paying them.

I forgot about that.

The Elway to Marino 30 for 30 talked in depth about the deal in place for Elway but like someone else said Irsay shot it done, settled for a average guard and a future 1st instead.

That was always just a rumor, not an actual offer.

I don't believe that is correct-on your part. I distinctly remember Jerry speaking about it said he was offered "a premium pick" from the Bengals for Bennett. What is still in argument to this day is whether that was a 1st or a 2nd round pick, I guess a loose definition could include a 3rd.

"We had a significant offer for a key player that we turned down, and turned down in getting in more extended dialogue for," Jones said

Jones said the team was offered at least one premium draft pick for a player.

"We could have probably made a 'now' impact and just bolstered a position, and significantly, and obviously we would have had a takeaway since it's a young player for the future," Jones said. "By the same token, and I'm talking about the type of consideration, first- or second-round type consideration, but the bottom line is this: Had I not thought that we needed that player right now as opposed to pushing forward in consideration for picks in the future, then I would have taken the pick option on it rather than the player."

Bennett responded to the report Thursday via Twitter. "Ha the bengals tried to trade for me?ochocinco Marty b woulda been a ruckus. I love being a cowboy tho this is home I love this team."

The reason Moss wasn't drafted was Irvin. Gailey did't want to deal with another off the field problem child.

And biggest thing about not drafting Moss isn't just not having Moss on the team. If we had drafted Moss, most likely we wouldn't have given up two 1st round picks to Seahags for Joey Galloway.

Jimmy wanted James Francis, but the Bengals picked him and we took Emmitt.

They tried to trade up to pick Francis, but it didn't work out, then they tried to trade up to get Lamar Lathon, that didn't work either. So they traded up past the Giants to get Emmitt, because the giants needed a RB too.

and a note in history...maybe this was posted..I have not read all the posts yet.

The only time Tex Schramm said he was ever talked out of a draft pick he wanted...Joe Montana in the 3rd round. And this came back to haunt this team even more, as he threw that dang pass called the catch...
Anyway, Schramm wanted to pick Montana, thought we needed a QB, but everyone [Landry, Brandt] argues, that they had Danny White, and needed a, YES, a TE, and selected Doug Cosbie instead..

Yes, that's correct. Landry said in his book that according to their computerized rating system, Montana was the best player available at the time, but they passed because they were fine at QB with Danny White and Glenn Carrano. The Cowboys fully planned on drafting Jerry Rice, but SF made some kind of trade that moved them up two spaces, enough to draft him ahead of the Cowboys. Montana to Rice should have been a Dallas Cowboys combination, but the space/time continuum got screwed up.

Another one: Marty Shottenheimer was nearly the 2nd coach of the Cowboys. At one point Landry was considering retiring (I think in about '85) and Tex Schramm was planning on replacing him with Shottenheimer. With Shottenheimer in charge who knows if Jerry would have bought the team. Maybe they would have stayed competitive and the team would never have been put up for sale. Thus no Jimmy Johnson era, no JJ/JJ 3 Super Bowls, but also no suffering under Jerry now. Maybe they would have won the thing under Marty. We'll never know. One good thing would have been Landry would have retired in glory and would never have had to go through the debacle of Jerry taking over and treating him like he did.

Thought there was some attempt to move up and draft Willie Mcginest, but I don't recall the details. They ended up with Shante Carver.

I remember rumors that Emmitt was almost traded to the Rams for Cleveland Gary the year he held out, not sure how serious that ever got though.

Randy Moss would not have changed anything in Dallas. Chan Gailey wasn't a good coach and they followed him up with Dave Campo. Aikman was at the end of his career and the team as a whole had a lot of holes on it. They weren't going to win a Superbowl with Moss. Plus he would have wilted under the pressure of being a Cowboy and probably been out of the league within 5 years. And Randy smoked more than just a little herb. Chan also tried to limit Michael Irvin in the offense.

You're entitled to believe that and it's, obviously, speculation on your part. This is speculation from me:

Randy Moss would have extended Troy Aikman's career. Perhaps, even, in a different twist of fate, might have extended Michael's career too. So much so, in fact, that Jerry Jones spent over 60 million dollars and 4 picks ( two #1's, a 3rd rnd, and a 5th rnd ) combined in trying to replace Randy Moss ( or not taking him ) with Rocket Ismail, James McKnight and Joey Galloway.

Here is another trade that did happen that set things in motion to get the 3 SB's in the 90's. I will try to get it straight, been up too long, need sleep.

What was the most important trade ever for Dallas.
Well I know most will say Herschel Walker....well, try..was it Doug Donley or Mike Renfro, was traded to the Oilers for a 5th round pick, and the Cowboys used that to select Herschel Walker, even though he went to New Jersey Generals in the USFL. Kind of like the Staubach & Chad Hennings picks. Just wait it out.
So when it went out, Donald Trump let Walker out of his personal services contract to sign with the Cowboys, even though Trump didn't have to do this.

It went something like that, but as I said, too late to think and to look it all up.

They offered the Patriots a #1 draft pick and Alvin Harper. Patriots turned it down.
