Moves That Were Almost Made

Randy Moss would not have changed anything in Dallas. Chan Gailey wasn't a good coach and they followed him up with Dave Campo. Aikman was at the end of his career and the team as a whole had a lot of holes on it. They weren't going to win a Superbowl with Moss. Plus he would have wilted under the pressure of being a Cowboy and probably been out of the league within 5 years. And Randy smoked more than just a little herb. Chan also tried to limit Michael Irvin in the offense.

Not saying Moss would've propelled them to a Super Bowl but he made Randall Cunningham, Dante Culpepper and Jeff George look like all-pros - imagine how he would've done with a real QB like Aikman. Turned the game into street ball, just throw it up regardless of coverage and he came down with it. He would've made much more of an impact than an average DE from North Carolina.

Most people know this but in 2009 Dallas wanted to draft Max Unger but Seattle jumped them and took him.

In 1975, Dallas could have taken Walter Payton (who went 2 picks later) instead of Randy White...interesting...wonder what Dallas would have done with the #1 in 1977 if they had taken Payton?

Aikman would have only played 3 years and 36 games with Moss. And does it really matter that Dallas drafted Ellis? They could have drafted anyone else and some people would have been disappointed. Without Ellis that already struggling defense would have been even worse. Nothing really would have changed for the Cowboys' fortunes had they drafted Moss. It probably would have only been a bigger circus.

Two great players. You couldn't have gone wrong with, either. It is cool to imagine how Landry would have utilized Payton.

What do you think they would have done with the #1 pick in 1977? Would they still have taken Dorsett with Walter already there?

Atta boy Chan. Way to give up on a future hall of famer because he smoked a little herb for a mediocre defensive end.

.

Who, by the look in his eye in his NFL profile pictures, looked like he smoked a little herb too.

The day of the NFL draft there was a rep from the Cowboys in the home town of Randy Moss. He truly thought he was going to be a Cowboy that day.

Could you imagine an Irvin and Moss duo! It would've been one of the best of all time.

They probably would not have traded with Seattle to get #2 overall pick if they had Payton. They could have stayed put although there was not a lot of success in that 1st round. Maybe could have landed Stanley Morgan who had a decent career.

Even with revisionism and retrospect at our disposal, you still say Randy Moss, perhaps one of the greatest and most talented WRs ever, would have not changed anything? Come on now.

Moss without Carter in the early part of his career could have been a very different player.

Those Cowboys teams were lacking in several areas. Dallas wasn't going to win a Superbowl with him. Aikman was gone shortly after Moss came into the league. Within 3 years of Moss entering the NFL, Dallas started a run of 3 straight 5-11 seasons. Could Moss have made them go 6-10 or 7-9 during that spell? Maybe, but that isn't enough to warrant regretting passing on him. Plus he was able to get away with smoking weed in Minnesota. He would have certainly been busted by the league if he was getting high in Dallas.

Parcells wanted Dewayne Robertson but got picked one pick before Dallas by Jets. Ended up with Terrence Newman
