Yeah, that's right, Jerry was a meek little figurehead of an owner the entire time Jimmy was running the show, and only turned into PowerMad Jerry after Jimmy left...

You believe in the Tooth Fairy too, don't you??

Who said he was a meek little figurehead owner?

That's not the issue. The issue is he had no idea about managing a team when he first bought the Cowboys. It took years of watching and learning from Jimmy which made Jerry think he could do it just as well.

After years of failing repeatedly, he got desperate and hired Parcells.

But feel free to believe your little Jerry fairy tale.

Yup .... once again we get the old "he was only the GM in the years we were losing" argument .....

If you think Jimmy, Barry, Chan, Campo and Parcells are had the same amount of power and authority, then you're crazy

This is such a disaster of a debate tactic. It's like a strawman or something. You put something out there that noone said, and declared that if anyone believes that they are crazy. It's like playing baseball with yourself. Just keep tossing the balls up and swinging for the fences.

I wonder how many of you are going to hold the 10 years pre-Bill post Jimmy against Jerry. Just curious.

And if the team somehow gets another Super Bowl ring in the next 2-3 years, who gets the credit? Bill, Jerry, Bill and Jerry, Jerry and "new coach"

Actually it is what's being said. Jimmy and Bill were the primary decision-makers on personnel during their tenures. For people to act like Jerry was the acting GM from day one and had the same amount of control over Jimmy and Bill as he did over Switzer, Gailey and Campo is ludicrous.

Actually, it's not. What was said was "Jerry has always been the GM" Degrees of control was never mentioned. And unless you know exactly how much control was exerted during each tenure, it's really just speculation on your part, and would hardly make anyone who speculated otherwise "crazy", no?

Parcells acknowleged Jerry has input on every decision - their committee. Jimmy, I don't know. The guy has his hand in the basket, it would seem, regardless of the coach.

You might want to pay attention to the whole thread.

So yeah, the emphasis was on the amount of control Jerry has had over the years.

You responded to zrin - that's what I was addressing (there was no mention of degree of control in his post). I'm not sure how I was supposed to know that there was an auxillary message to silverbear in your response to zrin. I'm not psychic, afterall.

But I did stay in a Holiday Inn last night. :D

I don't think there is any question that Jones is a Great Owner.

He loves his team passionately and will do whatever and spend whatever it takes to win.

His problem is obviously that he thinks he's a Football guy as far as being a GM and he has proven to be woefully short there.

He took a big step in fixing that by hiring Parcells and staying out of his way.

He can take a even bigger step this time by hiring the BEST coach available and not just someone he's familiar with like Turner.

I'm encouraged that he's going to wait to interview Rivera...Maybe he's learning.

We can only hope.

Kind of ironic that this thread is just above the one for Quincy Carter going to the arena league. Who drafted him again??

Wow! So what! Who hasnt taken a chance on players or made bad decision in business or in life. Why nitpick every move he has done and try to reason why he didnt win 10 SBs in a row. As fans we can all discuss the dumb moves he has made, including the two number 1 draft picks for joey galloway.

But there is not an owner in sports (outside of maybe Mark Cuban) who is more passionate about their team team and willing to do whatever is necessary to win while caring about the fans as much as he does.

He takes high risks for high rewards and wants to win like no other. I choose jerry over ANY owner or ownership family and his legacy will live on more than any other owner in sports history. He is a hall of famer and we will miss him whenever his passes.

i am just happy that he doesnt listen to all the armchairs qb and mediots who critisize his every move. At least he learns from his mistakes and is willing to listen. Just think if we had someone like the Ford family in Detroit or the Browns in Cincy. Snyder in Washington or mule head Al Davis in Oakland.

Guys let's be real. jerry is the best you know and I bet my love for the Cowboys if you can find a better owner.

Who?

I can forgive Jerry for the almost decade of decay between Jimmy and Bill but it sure is hard to not be mad at him because I believe the Cowboys would've won 1, 2 or maybe even 3 more superbowls in the 90s.

All three, but the coaches will get most of the credit, if they win the superbowl then I will give Jerry credit for gettin' outta the way because that's what it will take. The man is not a football brain. There are so many intracacies and intangibles to the all around game of football that I don't believe Jerry understands or cares about. He has shown many times that he thinks all he has to do is sign an expensive big name player or players to make the team win, while improving (maybe) an area where that player was placed it had very little impact on the final result when the season was over. T.O. comes to mind. We were 9-7 before him and 9-7 with him, just one example.

This pretty much sums it up for me...

No doubt he's a savvy business man...

But I often think that JJ fancys himself a football guy when clearly he's not...

The best thing JJ can do is to hire the best football people possible and let them run the show on a daily basis...

Again, we haven't won a play off game in ages and THAT's on the decisions that JJ has made along with the staff he's assembled...

Facts are facts...

Here's the deal Crazy Cowboy.

When you show support for Jerry Jones you scream dullard. Can't blame you because I'm just as stupid.

If you want to be cool?
If you want to demonstrate to the other board members just how smart you are, you need to follow the lead of SuperCows5X's, VA Cowboy and doomsday81.

You need to be a smart skeptical consumer.
You need to be a doubting thomas.
Never drink the coolaide.
Never have faith.
The glass is always half empty.

You need to KNOW EVERYTHING, BELIEVE IN NOTHING!

THREE QUESTIONS FOR ALL THE SMART FANS.

Which current owner would you rather have conducting interviews for the Cowboys next HC?
Which current NFL owner is more qaulified to do that?
Since Jones is such a joke,
Which NFL team would you have rather been a fan of the last 19 years?

Well CC this is what Rivera has to say about JJ and the Cowboys organization.

""The owner (Jerry Jones) is committed to winning," Rivera said. "He has a good attitude toward winning. He is going to do what it takes to win. I think they have good personnel. Also, it's a football community. It's a town that loves its football, like Chicago. There are a lot of opportunities in Dallas."

Dont forget the BB's, Phillo's, and Stillito's of the board ....... they are angry bitter and just as pessimistic as the rest of the ones you mentioned.
