I say if we can get away with trading down 5-6 spots, gaining a 4th, and then draft Blalock, i'd do it. But probably not at #22.

I strongly agree with trading down and getting a 4th or a 3rd round pick, however, i would much rather see the boys get a WR with that pick. I like our starters but they are 30+ years old and TO is rehabing from an injury and TG is injury prone (although he stayed healthy last year).

Why would we want to draft a backup in the first round?

People were losing their minds with Carpenter last season, yet now they'd be okay with Justin Blalock who would most certainly be a backup for years and is a poor value to boot?

I don't care if some people lost their minds over the Carpenter pick hell people are constantly getting upset around here I take it with a grain of salt. As for Blalock I actually did not say anything about him I said OL we all have a guess of who will be on the board or not at our pick but that is all it is a guess.

Blalock won't be a LT Dooms.

I don't think it's just Dooms being in love w/ Blalock, just that he's been yelling for Dallas to use a high pick on a lineman for quite some time now, even though we've addressed the Oline and that position just dropped a few rounds down the priority list

Did I say Blalock in my comment? OL does not stand for Blalock

other than Blalock, which Olineman should we take in the 1st? according to you

think that would be better than just being obtuse because noone agrees w/ you

I'm open to other options and just said that. I'm not taking options off the board and OL if the right guy is there is an option, WR is an option, LB is an option there are many different options I'm not closing off anything and the signing of Colombo clearly helps Dallas with having options in the draft.

For me to consider an o-lineman the guy would have to be a top-10 pick who falls down to #22 or we trade down, pick up another first day pick and then maybe select a lineman.

I don't know if Flo will play another 3 or 4 years do you? I guess we should not get a WR either.

We have at least one contingency plan for Adams.

We just bought it in Leonard Davis.

WR isn't comparable. Owens and Glenn could both be gone in a season.

Can you say with any certainty anyone in our starting five on the offensive line will be? There is plenty of time to take depth for the line. We already have McQuistan and Proctor, who are our projects. I can see us adding a few more, but not in the first round. Not unless the value is undeniable.

Who is on the board when we pick? Right now none of us know this, everyone has a guess but every year some guy who was expected to go early ends up sliding on the board. So tell me who is on the board when we pick and I'll give my opinion on which guy?

:hammer: same here, if someone like Levi Brown fell, I would be enticed, enticed mind you, although I'd still take Robert Meachem over him

The re-signing of Colombo means we don't have to use our first round pick on an OL--unlike a very good one falls to us and there is concern re Adams & his supposedly successor McQuistan. Otherwise, I think we'll probably go for a CB or possibly a WR (but only if he's seen as a real playmaker). If we really want to add another OL, I'd think we try trading down so we can pick up another late 3rd or 4th rounder depending on the value draft chart. On the other hand, we don't know what Phillips thinks of our FS situation so that could be a surprise pick even tho most of us would like to see Watkins can chance to win the job.

the only guy I can think of is Levi Brown, the rest are OGs, and we definitely aren't going to reach for a raw OT such as Joe Staley

I find it hard to believe that the 2nd best OT will be available at pick #22

"Not unless the value is undeniable" exactly. All I said is I would not close my option without knowing who is going to be on the board.

You are talking about best case scenarios and chances are, if they are available at pick 22, there is something wrong.

Recall Winston Justice last season. He was supposed to be a blue chip and ended up in the second round. That's much different from choice number twenty two.

Because of Davis/Columbo and Gurode signings, we can now look towards either WR/CB/maybe FS or OLB.
1. Stay put in the draft and draft BPA of position need.
2. Move up in the draft with swapping of 1st, trading player(s) and pics.
3. Trade down and picking up extra pics.

The problem I have with trading down is, we are pretty much stocked with talent on this team.
More than likely, the ones we pick will all be backups. Moving down will give us more picks we don't need. So why not go for quality and either stay put or move up?

Why not do a "Patriots" trade down and pick-up extra picks for next year?

Draft Blalock.
Our line would be a scary collection of road graters.
I like your thinking! However, since our starting five are now set, we'll probably go for someone who can step-in as a starter w/ our 1st rounder. FS is my probable guess.....Reggie Nelson.
