...or he could just be challenging Miles to be that much better...he did have a few drops sunday...the history on Miles has been his inconsistency...a little rivalry in the receiver corps is a healthy thing i think...just think of Jenkins and Scandrick...it drives both players to one-up the other...

...a little petulant but it could end up making both players better...

...Austin is gritty/speedy and the flavor of the month but the season is longer than that...Williams is an integral part of the Dallas offense, whether receiving or blocking...the Cowboys need BOTH to be consistent over the entire season...

...Owens had games where he just went off and times when he virtually disappeared...

and rivalry is always good. Looks like it might have made Jenkins better

Is it me or does Roy Williams seem like He's constantly trying to convince people He's a good Wr?

I dont even think Owens would go as low as to down play a great performance like that. Seems like He's a little butt hurt.

He's just like the other Roy Williams. One of the most thin-skinned athlete that I've ever heard.

Then again, the majority of this team has the mental toughness of it's coach, so it's not much of a surprise.

Sounds like the media's trying to spin this in a TO-esque manner.

Roy's right...Dallas was facing a very weak 2ndary. It was a great accomplishment none the less. BUT once does not a trend make. Do it week in and week out and we'll see...maybe not 250 yds every week...but we'll see.

Its no secret that I am a big fan of Roy.

But I have to admit I thought the same thing when I say that video earlier.

Disappointing.

I can;t believe the spin they are putting on this. Even more surprising is the fact that people are apparently (judging by responses) buying it.

Oh wait....no I'm not.

ditto...CZ fans sucked again

Consistency is what the entire offense needs to be striving for.

Miles Austin ended up shining in his first start but he does have to keep making plays in order to keep his snap count up.

And Austin knows it.

He's a very hard worker and he made the most of his opportunity when the staff had to start him.

I'll need to listen to the entire interview before I pass any judgement on his attitude or anything because the media folks tend to like to leave things out or put it in print out of context in order to cause problems.

I don't know what everybody is/was expecting from Roy Williams. In his five full seasons in the NFL, he has only turned in one season over 1,000 yards and only one season with more than sixteen games. Now he is going to have yet another season with less than sixteen games and he is on pace to finish with less than 1,000 yards yet again. He is too concerned with trying to convince everyone that he is a #1 receiver. However, I think he has confused #1 receiver with best receiver on the team. He is what he is; a big receiving target with great hands that is able to move the chains and out-leap most defenders. But as of today, he hasn't proven that he can put up a consistent performance that would be expected from a true #1 receiver.

IRVING - Reading between the lines, it sure sounded like it Monday when Williams was asked about Austin's 10-catch, 250-yard, two-touchdowns performance in the 26-20 overtime win at Kansas City.

Williams said he wasn't surprised Austin had a big day, considering that the Chiefs entered the game ranked 28th against the pass.

"I told (center) Andre (Gurode) before we left, 'Their secondary is going to struggle a little bit. As long as you guys can block them up front, there's no way a receiver shouldn't have over 150 yards,' " Williams said. "He kind of looked at me and laughed, but it was evident on film that they kind of struggle back there, and Miles had the game of his life."

Williams was asked whether he thought Austin had earned more playing time.

"The thing I say about any player in this league is consistency," Williams said. "You have to be consistent. That was the game of his life. He's going to cherish that forever. Everybody is going to remember it. That record is going to be hard to be broke. I'm shooting for it, but it's going to be hard to be broke. But you just have to be a consistent football player in this league."

Sounds like he's saying the Austin's performance might have been a fluke.

No matter what Williams thinks, Austin is going to get increased playing time. It's just a question of whether it will be at the expense of Williams or Crayton.

Williams not surprised by Austin's big game

October 12, 2009, 1:23 PM

By: Tim MacMahon

Roy Williams ribs weren't well enough for him to make the trip to Kansas City, but he expected a big game by a Cowboys receiver against the Chiefs.

Miles Austin delivered in record-breaking fashion, setting a new franchise standard with 250 yards on 10 catches, including Dallas' last two touchdowns in the overtime win over the 0-5 Chiefs.

"I told [center Andre Gurode] before we left that that secondary struggles," said Williams, who has 11 catches for 214 yards and one touchdown in four games. "If you guys can block them up front, there's no way a receiver shouldn't have over 150 yards.

"He looked at me and laughed. But it was evident that they kind of struggled back there, and Miles had the game of his life."

Well, at least Williams didn't risk aggravating his injured ribs by patting Austin on the back.

Roy... I knew it was a waste mortgaging the house on you. Total waste of good picks and money...

RW11 will never have a day close to what Miles had with Tony simply because he runs naturally poor routes. Tony will never trust him as much as he trusts someone who is where he is supposed to be 99% of the time.

Absolutely. I listened to his audio. "It's all about being consistent." Somebody tell "consistency" Roy was talking behind her back. God knows he hasn't seen consistency since he's worn the :star: . How could he form his mouth to minimize Miles' outstanding day.

It's not a healhty rivalry when the coaches don't play the better one to push the mediocre one.

I think he was clearly a bit jealous, but I dont think that is a bad thing. Any competitor would want to be out there making plays.

Oh wait....no I'm not.

It has nothing to do with their spin. I've gotten used to ignoring that by now.

But history points at Roy having thin skin and not taking to criticism very well. Like the other Roy Williams. Now he's defensive and wants everybody to like ihm and think he's a good WR...and it sounds like he's jealous.

I think it's blatant. You dont say stuff like he said. You just dont. You congratulate your teammate on having a career day. You do not, not give Austin credit. He put it on the Chiefs having a poor secondary (they do, and I believe that is a major reason for Austin's performance) but that's his teammate.

You dont say things like that.

Sounds like he's saying that he was to be consistent, that it was the game of his life and everyone will remember it (a compliment), and that record will be hard to break (a compliment), all true things.

Nowhere did RW say it was a fluke. How did this guy who wrote this article not fail reading comprehension? I think the universities are putting out some poorly qualified sports journalism majors out there.

Interesting, I watched the video and didn't get that vibe at all.

I imagine the headline is more of a suggestive perception than an actual reality.

If I'd simply posted Roy talks about KC game, I doubt the comments posted would've been made. Then again, those who have a natural bias against Roy probably would've.

Yeah. You're right. Count me as one of those. The Jets gave up a moderate amount for Braylon in comparison to what we gave up for Roy and Braylon is paying immediate dividends. He looks like a real #1 too. It's amazing what good route running will get you.
