Myth of no open receivers

I agree some of those pictures show open wrs but some are also misleading. The ball doesnt just magically move from Daks hand to the wr, when you have a db on either side that cushion can disapear real fast. If its 3rd and 12 you bet they will be open 6 yards out too. I have no doubt he missed some but those pictures do not tell the entire story. Im not one of those against Romo or Dak for that matter. I want to win.

But it is fair to assume the receiver finishes the current trajectory and in most of the pics the DB would have had no chance on a good throw.

Circled guys on still images don't show much. Gifs would be much better, and no I don't expect you do that. Half of the receivers you have circled are within 5 yards of scrimmage. Just going thru a few some:

1 - Dak is about to get hit and is in the process of throwing. I don't know the outcome of the actual pass but both circles look to be about a 5 yard gain max, one directly over/through the arms of blitzing G54.

2 - Witten might be open but we can't tell where G24 is going - from Dak's point of view that guy probably looks right on top of him.

3 - Ok zeke open in flat, middle circle looks possibly open but trace where a non speed of light throw has to go to about the 25. Looks like the deep safety can get there pretty fast.

4 - That is probably Wit open for 5 yard gain

5 - That isn't open unless that LB is literally running backwards, and if Wit does get body position, again a 5-6 yard gain.

6 - Zeke open for short gain, maybe he breaks it I like that one, but Dak is looking for more apparently

(second to last) - this looks like it gets picked by underneath LB if he targets the circled receiver.

Maybe the live video of these show a totally different story and my quick interpretation will be proven completely wrong, but stills don't show ball flight, throwing lanes, and direction defenders are going.

For people that want more context, the below is on one of the drives in the 4th quarter, after Zeke had been stuffed on 1st down and it was 2nd and 11. Dak misfires to Dez, underthrowing him, despite him being in a good position to make a catch if the ball was on target.

A throw to either Witten or Butler makes it 3rd and short and maybe a first down. Heck, even Beasley would have been a decent choice here. But instead we faced 3rd and 11. That play was the weird toss to Zeke that failed and we punted.

Receivers. Are. Open.

So he's faking the stills to make Dak look bad, you think ? Did you study the all 22 and if so how many hours did you put in ?

Not faking but he's trying to use them to show Dak had a bad game. At least half the pictures he uses actually show the opposite. To say that there were receivers running open on most plays is just not true.

I have watched the All-22 and posted a review in another thread. I'm not a quarter guru but it's obvious that most of the time there were not open receivers. After watching the film I feel much better about Dak going forward.

The next drive in the 4th quarter. It's 2nd and 8. Zeke probably takes this one to the house. But Dak pats the ball a few times and takes a sack. This one is pure lack of awareness. The linebacker got caught up in the middle of the play and was too late to get out to the flat to cover Zeke. At worst it's a 30 yard gain.

Need to state here that line of scrimmage is the 31. All these guys you cite as open are covered over the top within a few yards, so from top to bottom they would catch it 3, 5, and 6 yards from scrimmage. Not sure he can see what is in front of Butler due to linemen. I don't disagree hitting Wit in the throwing lane here would be a terrible choice to make it 3rd and 6, but I also can't say throwing it to Dez one on one is really dumb?

Thanks for posting these, it makes for way better discussion than "X player sucks".

Needless to say, it would be very interesting to see these from the QB's point of view. With down-and-distance information and play results, obviously.

Exactly. These pics don't mean anything unless you know the down and distance. Who cares if a WR is open 9 yards from the LOS when it's 3rd and 15.

*sigh*

I'm lost what you're trying to say. Are you trying to say that there were open receivers during the game? If so, then Bravo! No one disagrees with that. If you're trying to say that there were open receivers every play and Dak missed them then you are wrong. In fact, at least half the pictures you posted in the OP DISPROVES your point. The problem is that most plays receivers were not getting open. Dak did not play horrible probably showed great restraint for a rookie not to throw more picks than he did by forcing the ball into receivers not open.

He posted pics of plays where Dak completed the ball to one of the receivers that he has circled. Obviously a receiver was open on plays where it was a completion.

So then you would have us all assume no open recievers on every incompletion ? How many hours did you study the all 22 yourself ?

Then your the only person I've communicated with today that has studied the all 22 and feels good going forward thats 16 others that disagree with you including myself.

I noticed Dak has been holding on the ball longer waiting for bigger plays to develop past few weeks even when it's not needed. Not sure if it's due to coaching or play design.

Funny thing is people used to complain about him being a dink and dunk QB earlier in the season. Saying that he can't make big chunk plays.

I prefer he go back to how he played earlier in the season. Mostly shorter passes with couple of long passes thrown in. He is going for the bigger plays much more than he needs to and it hasn't worked out for him.

I could post gifs, but I'm tired of this already.

There was another play where Beasley split the two defenders and was wide open streaking to the endzone. That was a walk in TD that Romo would have cashed in on.

I love Dak. Couldn't be more happy we have him on the team. But the guy had one of the worst games I've ever seen. And he's been missing open receivers all year long. It's not just this game. He's a rookie. It's expected.

But I want a Super Bowl, not growing pains.
I don't know why it is so difficult for some to accept that Romo has vastly more experience than the man who replaced him...including playoff experience...including experience against a Steve Spagnuolo defense. To some, Prescott is fully the equal of Romo in his ability to diagnose any defensive front and consistently find the correct place to go with the ball...to anticipate, to throw into tight windows and use his mobility for improvisation. It's just not realistic to think Prescott is equal to Romo in ALL those areas...and NO I'm not calling for a rusty Romo to start, but the genius talk and the Tom Brady talk is seriously over-baked. What you have now is the trashing of Romo (his talent and his health) in order to make excuses for Prescott looking like the rookie he is.

That said, I do think that Jerry Jones should shut his lip. If there are thoughts of a possible reversion to Romo, it should be the best kept secret in Dallas...not fodder for the local and national press, who can't wait for a train-wreck to report on in Dallas. Jones dropped the ball on that point. We all feel for Romo, but the decision was made to go with Prescott and it's getting a little late in the day to pull him without allowing him a chance to rectify, learn and improve. I'm pulling for him in that respect, but more outings like what happened Sunday and it starts to become a real distraction that the team simply doesn't need going forward...and then all bets are off.

Everyone is covered on this play except Zeke who is wide open. Wide Open. He has to see that.

Dak struggled to read the field in college. It was an issue earlier in the season. People talked about it in wins against Washington. Wins all season long.

Suddenly people are surprised and are attacking Dak if they point this out? It's stupid.

Right now Dak is the weakest link on our offense. He's been that way all year. And it cost us Sunday. That doesn't mean he's horrible or not the future. That means he's a 4th round rookie driving a Porsche. And he he's been doing a good job but Sunday he scuffed the bumper trying to parallel park.
